Do you have a go-to knife when you can't decide what to carry?

Depends on what you mean by "can't decide". If I am picking something that will need to fill a number of roles and in mixed company, a Leatherman P4 mulitool.

If you are talking about what random knife I will choose when I can't drill down to what I may need to cut for the day, it's hard to beat a large PJ Inkosi. Stout, sharp, not too big, not too small, can do a hard day's work, pairs well with pretty much any outfit and in any company.

Lately for me its been a old Gerber 400. I've had to scale back my knife wants after several major home improvements and the ol' lady booking cruises and renting large beach houses for the holidays. Also no one in my family shares my enthusiam for fine cutlery. I suspect I'll be selling off items in the future as I get into my fuddy duddy stage of life. It happened to my firearms, so naturally my knifes will follow too. I think I'll narrow it down to my keepers to the first Buck 110, SAK Spartan that I got on my 10th b-day and maybe a few others.

I like that William Henry - I bet it was sharp all the time with that ZDP-189, and not too fancy to carry and use.

My B30 TACT (39/100) is similar, but with blue fade anodizing and Damascus blade; so I have rarely used it since I worry about messing up the original mirror polished original edge. (wave Damascus with VG-10 core, Kashmir Blue Topaz on the button)
Thanks, Doc. That ZDP-189 does hold an edge! A few minutes on a loaded strop and it's back to shaving sharp.
I like the wave damascus. I've got one I carry once in awhile, when I want to get fancy. It's Ironwood and ZDP-189 Wave Damascus. It definitely wouldn't be the one I'd grab, in a hurry, on my way out the door.

Do you know, how is the toughness and edge on that ZDP-189 Wave Damascus vs the VH-10 Core Damascus that I have?

I carry S35VN Resilience and Tenacious I modded, and the same two fixed blades every day, every time I leave the house. For now, until I make something new to replace them, I suppose. And that Barlow is my EDC(omputer) knife.

ZT 0640, Sm Sebenza 31, Protech Malibu, PM2, TRM Neutron, North Arm Skahah II..

One of these usually gets the nod when I can't decide what to carry, or if I know i'm going to be away from the knife accumulation for a while, be it a long weekend or extended vacation or whatnot.. capable "all-arounders" that will treat me well in a variety of scenarios..

I am becoming forgetful in my old age. Twice in the last few months I have left the farm without a knife. Then I feel like that nightmare where I am in a big, busy store and suddenly realize I have no pants on. So I am leaving a Civivi Trailblazer clipped in a pocket of my out-and-about shorts. The Trailblazer has my favorite steel, 14N28C, and it is probably legal to conceal where I live in Florida. However, it would not be adequate to blaze much of a trail.

If I actually remember to take another knife but waffle about which one, I usually end up with either a Syderco Endura in a horizontal sheath on my belt when my T shirt is tucked in or, lately, a CRKT Folts S.P.I.T. Reverse Tanto neck knife when my T shirt covers my belt. My wife likes the S.P.I.T. so much that she grabbed it right out of the sheath as I was driving today and she had a stubborn ebay package.
