Do you love knives, but have difficulty finding uses in your lifestyle?

The truth is that Knives, even very cheap ones, absent a serious manufacturing flaw, will serve for several lifetimes. We might like to believe that we are using our knives, but if you have more than a handful of knives you are probably just fantasizing. There is nothing wrong with releasing your inner Walter Mitty. It is healthy, interesting and entertaining.

I use a knife every day and I would feel naked if I didn't have one on me. I don't collect but I have accumulated far more knives than I am likely to use before they toss dirt over me. But I like them and don't have any intention to change.

I may have found my fixed blade answer (edc)..... I don't normally carry a fixed blade, but I bought this little Condor Compact Kephart a couple weeks ago and darn if I have had it on my belt every single day since. Life may be changing..... Here is a picture of it. It only has a 2.6" long blade and I use it just like I use a small folding knife. It has been used just about every day since and my SAK has seen little use for the last couple of weeks.

It sharpens up really nice. I like it. But I like a lot of knives.

Indeed. This is why, despite having the income for it, I have eschewed acquiring the super premium grade of knives. Still, I must have at least 25 very nice sub-$100 knives and just a few $100+ knives. Most of which serve to entertain my fiddling and tinkering fancies far more than they serve actual cutting tasks. And yet... I just bought THREE MORE!!!

Super premium knives are no different than the super premium grade of 1911s - several of which which I have spent BIG bucks for. (Wilson, Brown, and customs from three top custom 1911 pistol smiths). Yes of course, they're very nice and all. "Special". Super-duper, fancy dancy, But my discovery was that the more mainstream quality-made options (Colt, Springfield, STI, S&W, SIG, Kimber, et al) actually do serve the need exceptionally well, for very reasonable expenditures. And, what do I choose to carry whenever I walk out the door? A Smith & Wesson M&P40 Full size (15+1 rounds of 180 gr. HST) or M&P40 Compact (10+1=11 rounds of 180 gr HST). These I view as the best options, for me, when it comes to a defensive pistol, due to terminal ballistics, capacity, and reliability.

Most of us can be very well served with a few nice handguns, a few nice shotguns, and a few nice long guns. Same goes for flashlights and knives.

But many of us entertain our enthusiastic appreciation for these items by acquiring a good bit more than a few; more than we can actually put to good use. It's all ok, of course, as long as we remain sensible within our own financial means.

But man... acquiring cool goodies in these various hobbies can get a little crazy.

Idk what you guys are going on about. Sometimes when I'm out "operating" it gets old snapping sentries necks with my bare hands, I need to have my knife to dispatch them. You guys must not be real knife ppl. (:p:D:D:D Sorry it seemed "that guy" hadn't showed up yet)

Well Horsewright Horsewright , I will say living outside of Baltimore I've never had the chance to chop the nuts off a bull:D:D but sometimes those clam packs put up a hell of a fight and thanks to the fiance the pile of Amazon cardboard can be demanding.:D:D....... As always great pic. As a mechanic I keep a skeletool clipped to my front belt buckle and I use it for everything at work but I do keep a Edc I my pocket.

No.

What was it Curly (Jack Palance) said in City Slickers? Oh yeah: "City folks."

You guys need to saddle up and come hang out here for a while.

Anyhoo, everyone I know carries a knife daily and uses it. But we're not very urban and some would say urbane here. The Doc doing some denistry on a horse:

WOW! Real life cowboys! For past 20 years since migrating to US from Eastern Europe it's been my dream to visit a place/state to see real life cowboys... Unfortunately all my friends are from the liberal North-Easters big cities, so I never got the chance to experience these true American patriotic traditional places and see the real America that respects God, has values & principles in life and lives by them, respects stars & stripes. Wow! Awesome pictures. Thank you for sharing them!

I just purchased a SAK with white scales even though I did not “need” it. I wanted something that would be easy to find in a black backpack.

I don’t really need any more knives. Ever. I have more than enough. Doubles and triples of certain models. Yet, I normally reach for only a select two or three knifes when I walk out the door. Those are not my most expensive and I find that I enjoy them more than any other.

I could enjoy years of knife use with only a Griptilian, a Kershaw Zing (US version) and a SAK Cadet. Even with just the Grip and SAK, I would be fine.

Does anyone know who has the largest knife collection and how many knives?
I don't know if it's the largest, but Makandr has a pretty decent collection.
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/tactical-fixed.1186860/
Basically 100+ pages of him posting his knives.

There was a thread a while ago about someone claiming to have the largest collection of knives, might have been from some news-site, but it got quicly shot down by various members here who had way more.

Buy an older house that requires some TLC. You will find many uses for your knives as you make the needed repairs.
So much this ^^^

We’ve recently moved into a house dated 1900. I’m swiftly realising that there will always be ‘something to do’ to it!

To answer the OP's initial question, I don't really look for excuses to use a knife, any knife. When I need one, I grab one to use and usually from my pocket. A knife is pretty much ALWAYS ready for use. Don't care about too many, hoarding comments, not using one, not using any but a select few..... doesn't matter. It's fun. I enjoy them for what they are and not only for what they do.

We're all over just can't see us from the road sometimes. I know a Slovakian cowgirl. Here ya go, have your speakers on:

I'm an electrician, and I use my knives every day. It's a tool just like all my other tools. Cutting labels to size, stripping cable, occasionally cut a cable tie (although I usually use diagonal cutters for that, much more precise and safer).

Other than that, I use them at home to open envelopes and packages, cut gauze when my cat decides to jump on my wife with no warning, or to dispatch wasps and hornets. Trimming small shoots on trees. Fidgeting.

I have around 36 or so, so I have way more than I need. But that's OK... I like variety!

Using knives, all my knives, is my lifestyle. And sharpening knives. And designing a knife here and there. And hopefully soon, producing a simple friction folder. It's more than a lifestyle, it's a disease, a pest, an infection ! But I wouldn't want to live without...

I’m engineer, all week its just office work, but I even pull out my knife to open my Doritos so I can use it every time I can

I carry a knife daily but often wish I had more things to cut. I'm surprised that many people who wish the same choose to cut cardboard with a box cutter. Huh?
I'll sometimes cut up cardboard into strips or carve wood just see how a thinned out edge will hold up. I enjoy sharpening. I mod knives and I make knives as a hobby.
Recently I've been getting into kitchen cutlery. Makes sense since I have a daily need to cut in the kitchen. This weekend I modded my kitchen knife block to accept more knives! Ha.
I do like to acquire new knives but I limit myself in large part because I feel a sense of guilt when the collection grows. I have many knives that rarely see carry but they all bring me pleasure. It's a great hobby.

Many real Americans don't believe in god

The most common opportunity to use my edc folder is, well, open package. I do occasionally use them to handle raw meat such as chicken breast. But honestly I think a cheap kitchen knife will do the job as well, and it doesn’t require much effort to clean after that, unlike my benchmade 556:)
