Do you (mostly) carry the same traditional knife daily?

I dont post often these days but I LOVE these kinds of threads. Users, abusers and re-furbished/scaled knives are my thing and I cant pass up threads that get to show them off.

Ive posted these before, but I bought both of these knives with the proper date/tang stamp for each of my 2 Son's birth years and have carried one or both since the day they were born. They have both been through it all, lost them both numerous times, found them (obviously and with great relief) and have even dyed them to match a handful of times as the color seems to bleed over time. The plan is to carry them until they are both old enough to be responsible enough to take care of them and let them have them. They both have a brand new Peanut with proper date stamps as well just in the likely case I misplace one or both between now and then.

In warmer months I usually just carry one of them in shorts but when Jeans season hits, one of the two go in the coin pocket and another blade will ride in the pocket but these two are true "daily" carries.

That’s an awesome dad thing you're doing. The 75 pattern case has been dyed. It was bonestag but I carried it till it was colorless, then dyed it black. It now has some wear to the dye as well.

Those both look beautiful!

My current EDC came to dominate my pocket via a roundabout route. I got my first Okapi in Africa in 1990 or 1991. I didn’t like the cheap-sounding noise the ring made, and wound some thread around it to try to dampen the sound. It didn’t have a country of origin stamped on it and I always wondered where it was made. I kept it as a curiosity but never carried it, and it was stolen during a break-in in 2003.

In about 2016 I finally overcame my fear of ebay and ordered another one for about $20 from a seller in South Africa. Then for a while the plastic-handled versions (and some other models as well) were available VERY cheaply from various online dealers here in the US. I started buying them and making my own wooden handles for them, and replaced the hated ring with a leather strip. I rotated through these re-handled ones for my EDC until maybe the middle of 2020 when I started mostly just carrying the original moon-and-stars version. At some point I decided that I didn’t mind the noise the ring made after all, and it made it easy to close one-handed, so now I am back to essentially the same knife I started with some 30 years ago.

I do still occasionally carry something different, but only if I need it for a specific purpose. I have even gone out the door with something else in my pocket, but gone immediately back in and swapped it for my usual.

At this moment. No. I carry a different knife. I think it mostly boils down to me being relatively new to traditionals. Im still testing the waters on what I like and don't like. My most carried knife is a gec 71. Probably carry it 3x a week but rarely on back to back days.

I've had the SBJ in my pocket over a year and I picked up the Barlow a month or two ago. I chose them because they pair well with the "other" folders I carry. For the time being, I will continue to drop one of these in my pocket on workdays, switching to something else on weekends. The materials used in these two, and even the black color work well in my nasty work environment. I have a couple other traditionals, but the interest is fairly new to me. I have to say that by far, traditional knives are the most fun to use, handle, look at and talk about.

I have a modest accumulation of users to choose from, and usually pick 1 knife or pair of knives to carry for week sometimes a few weeks with a new addition.
It's very easy for me to really like a knife and just stick with it, but don't like doing that these days because I have other knives I love.

Recently I've really been loving this old Buck 704 and am having a hard time putting it away.

This modified Case 032 and my favorite Case 08 are knives I have trouble putting away as well, they're definitely my two most carried.

If I’m at work and working outdoors, I generally carry a Buck 301 or a Benchmade proper. I don’t worry much about these knifes, guess they’re considered a bit expendable if they were to get lost. Granted I would replace the 301 immediately if lost. If I’m in the office or on weekends I like to mix it up with a variety of nicer knives.

i carry 2 most every day. But it is rare that I carry the same 2 more than a couple days a week. A Case 61048 is in my left pocket almost every day, but I have several and swap up carrying them. The right pocket sees more variety, could be a Case copperhead, whittler, or a vintage stockman.

ive tried carrying the same knife every day, but never stayed with it for more than a month.

Yes and No. ;)
I have 4 knives (3 of them have sentimental value for me) that are literal EDCs, that I carry every day. 2 are in my left front pocket, and 2 share a pocket slip that's in the backpack that's usually with me at home and at work. Here's a photo of the "Eternal Quartet":

But I also carry lots of other knives that I change every week. My current weekly rotation schedule has 10 categories, with a different knife for each category every week.

I've carried this SOG Stingray every day since 1993 except for hospitalizations, etc.. It's always with me.

The Kraton covers wore off a long time ago and I now carry it in a fitted leather slip that acts as the covers when in use (pull the knife out of the slip, open the blade and insert the frame in the slip). I have two others but have never got around to carrying them. Other than the SOG, I swap out knives almost daily but do keep a good selection on my desk close at hand.

This is one of my other SOG Stingrays with unworn Kraton covers for comparison.

Oh, this knife won best imported knife at the 1992 Blade Show.
