Do you stick with carrying one knife for long every day?

Benchmade 531 has been my main carry for a while now.

If it gets lost, it will be replaced with a Bugout.

Beat-up Spyderco Rescue. Its been going to work with me every day for about 10 years.

Been carrying the same case yellow trapper for about 20 years now. Before that I carried an old timer stockman for nearly 25 years. I sometimes do carry another knife along with my EDC.

I really bulked up on the folder collection this year, and then whittled it back down to just 3.

CRK Umnumzaan tanto is my main, go to carry. I then have a Spyderco GB2 and PM2 (also in M4). I like the Spydercos in M4 because I can get them screaming sharp. These 3 satisfy my folder likes (One all metal, one carbon fiber, and one fun-to-flip). All are suitable and more than tough enough for any task I throw at them. The 'zaan is in my pocket 80% of the time and the spydies pick up the off days.

Three.... how can you stand it? Or are you just in a holding pattern to re-scratch the itch? ;) Since I picked up the Steel Will Cutjack (Mini-3" M390), I can't seem to leave it at home. Really like this knife and I generally don't care for flippers.... oh well. But I always have the SAK too.

Added: I have been carrying a SAK just about everyday since around 1990 as best I can put a time frame on it. I pretty much carry the same one for years until I bang it up bad or loose it. Then I pull out a replacement when I get home. Got lots of replacements already in waiting. Prior to my introduction to SAKs (it took a couple years to win me over), it was always a two blade traditional jack knife of some kind and mostly the same one as well for years.

Maybe because I'm really particular but I find it very hard to just like a knife to the point where I carry the same one every day for 1,2,6,8+ months or whatever. Do you do that? Is there a knife you are just so satisfied with that you're done searching for the perfect one and all the others you own just stay at home?

I carry one for months at a time, anywhere from 3 to 12, then I rotate. The length of time is not planned, it's just when I feel like changing. I don't like to change or rotate every week or even every day, although lots of folks do prefer doing that. For me, there's an aspect of muscle memory in deploying an EDC folder quickly and safely, and then also there's an aspect of learning to use each knife for best cutting performance based on its unique attributes. After I get into a "groove" with a knife (opening it, closing it, and using it), I like to go ahead and carry it for a while rather than change up my routine too frequently. Currently I'm carrying my PM2 as I was in a mood for something a bit lighter weight and better slicing performance.

This is great advice. I’ve been trying to get back to this recently. I guess this is a good excuse to stop buying/trading knives now!

The only one I can honestly say gets carried every day, and will for the foreseeable future, is my SAK Classic.
I have been having a longer than usual honeymoon period with the Gayle Bradley 2. Carried it every day for the last month or so. It could potentially be that one I always carry. If not, it'll definitely be a regular.

Yes and no for me.

Yes on the slot in my LFP, which is where I carry my multitool. Had a leatherman on me since cirka 23 years, right now it is a Skeletool CX (1st gen.), which I've been carrying since 2008 (it's predecessors were a PST and a Wave, both carried in belt sheaths). I never leave the house without a Leatherman.

No on the dedicated folder, which I carry in my RFP. Here I rotate, depending on the job I have to do that day, my mood, etc.

Maybe a week is the most I’ve ever carried a folding knife. Unless you count SAKs then it’s more like a year.

For dedicated knives, I keep changing it up. I don't have enough of a specific job for it, so my changes are generally for differences in carry requirements and uses from one day to another. I generally carry a BM 520 or 590 if I carry a pouch. I ended up preferring a Buck 112 DP for when I want back pocket carry (I prefer thicker handled knives for a dedicated blade carry).

All in all, my mini MT's get the most constant carry. I kept a Gerber Curve on my keychain for 7 years, while keeping a LM Juice in my back pack. The seven years prior, the Juice was my EDC. I started with a SOG Paratool for a few years when I was in high school, then a brief stunt with a Vic Rucksack in college.

For the last few years I keep a LM Squirt on my keychain and add the Juice to my belt if I think I'm going to need tools (although I also keep a small tool bag in my back pack or briefcase if I know I'm going to need tools too). The Juice is also my dedicated travel EDC. The dedicated blade is more of a secondary instrument for me.
