Do You Still Like Your Southard?

IMO Titanium is 10x more beautiful when it has dings, scratches, and shiny worn edges. Quit babying them and use the heck out of them! :p
If I was in the market for a knife like this, I would absolutely snatch up a Southard. The design is great, g10+Ti is probably my favorite handle option right now and what my Millie has. Keep posting pics, guys.

I've had two and sold both of them. They were both excellent...but I don't miss them. I seldom cut anything, just open a box sometimes...

Great shots! :)

Thanks for posting them...

I love my Southard. It is one of my absolute favorite carry knives. It competes for pocket time most often with my Manix 2 Translucent Blue. I know some are not fond of the clip because it doesn't match the frame, but I feel the clip is supposed to clash with the frame as it perfectly compliments the blade in my mind. The clip is stainless steel and its finish and shape match the blade. The blade and clip compliment each other in the same way that the little piece of brown G-10 to prevent over-travel compliments the front handle scale.

Hmmm. I realize in looking through the posts in this thread that I may have come off sounding like I don't like the Southard. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's too heavy and bulky to EDC around the office during the week. I use my Laconico Slim EDC for office duty. But I carry my Southard all the time on weekends. It kicked a Large Sebenza out of my pocket and the Sebenza hasn't found its way back yet. I can't say much more for the Southard than that.

I enjoyed it while I had it, but there were a few little nagging things as to why I got rid of mine. The clip didn't have enough tension to grab the pocket properly. Sure this could have been fixed with the clip above, but I didn't want to go that direction. Another thing was the overall open shape. I wasn't a fan of the arc. The Gayle Bradley ended up stealing all the pocket time from the Southard anyhow :)

It's very nice. Deployment is incredibly smooth, and you can flip it out very fast. I personally like the looks of it, but it is a little different. I only have two complaints about the knife: first, the pocket clip. I really wish it was stonewashed; the polished finish really clashes with the stonewashed titanium, and on top of that, it isn't a deep carry. Second, the g10 is very thick, I would have liked each side to be about the same thickness, but the titanium side is noticeably thinner; but this is very minor, and is really just an aesthetic thing, and does not affect the way the knife feels in hand at all.

Overall, I'd recommend it, especially if you can get it on the secondhand market for a good price. It's well put together, and a great size/weight for EDC.

Mine's been active this week, and the more I use it, the more genius I see in Mr. Southard. It is incredibly versatile in it's cutting technique capabilities. Big and small if you know what I mean.

definitely let us know your impressions. It's a great knife. Hope you'll love it as much as the rest of us.

I just received it today and it's pretty nice. It almost seems like there is too much blade popping out of the handle. Brad Southard really has some neat design to his knives. I think it will definitely be a keeper. The brown isn't as bad as I thought it would be but I do have some RIT here if I change my mind.

Hey, can't complain about 1 to 1 blade to handle ratio. That's my favorite part of the Southard.

Definitely dye it if you're not digging the brown. I dyed mine blue.
