Do you use a Pocket sheath/slip?

I carry my traditional folder in a slip not so much to protect the knife but to protect my pocket. The back square that protrudes above the bolster is sharp enough to wear through the internal pocket fabric pretty quickly.

No sheaths nor slips.

Several years ago I stopped buying knives that were high-end enough to rate a sheath/slip. I found I used those knives far less than I would a lower-end one. I'm perfectly fine with a Case peanut or an Old Timer stockman rumbling around in my pocket. Truly "pocketworn." And I won't hesitate to use the heck out it. Clean, sharp and oiled. Ready to go.

I have a few traditional folders that I carry in a nice leather pocket slip. It really does help keep the knife upright vs falling into a horizontal position in my pocket. This is usually reserved for my single blade 77 Barlows or Northwoods Broadway Jack. Just a personal opinion but I didn't care much for the KSF or CK slips, too thick for me. Also just an observation but my CK slip felt fairly rough on the inside compared to others I've purchased and seemed to dull the bolster a bit. I have not tried the GEC slips perhaps they are better.

I've found that without one the knife scratches up my coins and keys.;) I believe Mr. Bose refers to slip sheaths as "knife purses".
Actually with some knives I do use one and with other knives I do not. Either way it is all good as long as you have a slip joint in your pocket.

I tried using one, but I found that it just became a hassle to get to the knife and ended up retiring it after I realized how little I was using the knife.

I always carry multiple knives, so the coin pocket always has an unsheathed knife. This, lately, has been my Ebony GEC #83. In the right front pocket, I carry my phone, unsheathed Peanut, and the third knife gets a sheath, typically my #14 TC in a small CK slip. I picked up a couple larger CK slips that I'll probably use for #15 TCs/Beer Scouts. The CK slips do add some wear to the bolsters, but I'm okay with that. I just don't want my Peanut and #14 TC getting into a fight. ;)

I use a slip when carrying my Rough Rider StoneWorx large stockman, to protect the mother of pearl inlays.

Of those two, which is thinner? Thanks.

Looking at the goat skin one from CK as it seems very thin

I use a KSF or GEC slip for most of my traditionals. Not worried about wear or separating from other items in the pocket. For me, I think there's less chance of falling out of pants/shorts pocket without me knowing it if it's in one.

Just wanted to share a few of mine, sorry for the crummy cell phone pics. I used a single blade 77 Barlow in each for a reference. My favorite is the brown Horween shell cordovan leather. I also have one in black but I haven't found the right knife for it yet.

FWIW, the black CK with red stitch version came with a run of #77's and is not the Tuscan Premium leather used in the standard slips. Still European leather and I put a barlow in/out of it like a hundred times without noticing any dulling (as it felt a bit rougher to me too). But the goat skin are much thinner and softer if you like a more flex feel.

"Do you use a Pocket sheath/slip?"

Sometimes, but not often. I have one of the black w/red stitching CK slips that I keep my newest 77 NF Barlow in. I have a KSF leather slip that houses my Case Back Pocket knife.

Those are the only two that I have pocket sheaths for. Anything else goes loose in a pocket. I don't carry any other metallic objects in the same pocket with the knife, so they don't much get scratched up anyway.

Ordinarily I do not worry about scratches and pocket wear, but I have a few knives, notably Rough Rider saw cut bone, that do not wear well in the pocket. Some of the smooth bone finishes can also look shopworn after a couple of days' riding in the pocket. I have resolved to carry those knives only if I can protect them in a slip.

At least one Rough Rider model, the Dog Bone Jack, comes with its own slip, with a pocket clip. There is no reason not to use the slip with other knives, except that some of the knives I want to protect are too large. I figure the finger from a deerskin glove might be made to work, if I can find an orphaned glove to cut up.

I carry my Mudbug in a leather sheath that I made to fit that specific knife. It makes the knife ride well in my front pocket. I have a short lanyard on the knife that makes it easy to withdraw from the pocket. I recently discovered that the edges of the leather sheath make an excellent hone to touch up the knife after use.

umm... well actually, that's kind of why I sometimes use a pocket sheath. I carry a pocket watch. It's the only watch I ever use; and I use it every day. And some of my pants don't have a watch pocket. When wearing such pants, I use a pocket sheath so as not to scratch my watch.

Aside from that, the knife rides solo in my right front pocket, sans sheath.

I carry my cusom slip joints and northwoods in carry slips. I think a nice elephant leather or stingray skin pocket slip complements a fine custom slipjoint. I like the northwoods carry slips because they protect the handle material.

I have some pants with slippery pockets, that is when I use my pocketslip.
Also use it when I carry a custom folder.
Get one, try it. You'll either like it or not.

I like slips because it keeps the knife more in place where it doesn't roll around and become annoying. I usually put my secondary knife in a slip, main knife just in pocket since that's much faster to access.
