Do you use a Pocket sheath/slip?

Some are, hmm, say, quite diffferent... :D

I call this a Folding Knife Pouch. Often ya hear em referred to as a Buckaroo Pouch or Buckaroo Sheath. Simple idea, a small slip with a thong sewn to it.

Interesting, and I like its simplicity.

I made a similar modification to one of my GEC slips a couple years back, and use it when I a) am unsure of the security of shallower/diagonal cut pockets; b) want a particular knife to remain upright or c) am carrying a knife that, for whatever reason, I deem worthy of special care (my Russell barlow comes to mind, but I'll also use a slip when I'm trying out a knife/pattern that I don't want to bung up while deciding whether or not it suits me long-term).

I wanted a slot sewn in my pocket to slide a knife into and I wanted it over near the pant leg hem so I would not suffer pocket knife 'bulge'. These last two photos are shown looking inside the pants. The small shaft to the inside and the clip head side to the outside.

I think a proper designed sewing job would be great, but my man skills kicked in and I bought some small brass safety pins and made the pocket in a pocket myself. I couldn't find any brass or SS staples...ha Right handers in the right pocket and left handers in the left pocket. I took small pliers and pinched down the opening holding the sharp point in check. These have withstood hundreds of washings with no problems. I used a small sharpie type marker to mark my final spots in case I had issues or the magic sewing genie suddenly appeared. You have to imagine the slot in your pocket, couldn't force my phone down there to take a photo......

I think this will also work in jeans front pockets if the folder is too large for a watch pocket or they don't have one.

I've employed this method in jeans for about a year now, it works like a charm [emoji106] I've just sewn the pocket with a needle and thread. Almost all of my pants have this modification now and if not, I put a folded handkerchief next to the knife in my rfp to keep the knife vertical.

Don't some folks also sew a seam on the back pocket, r or l , for an upright carry of a back pocket knife? Seems like I've seen that in another thread like this. On some subjects having a few different threads isn't always bad, if you can get different posters to chime in. $.02
Thanks, Neal

I just made a pocket slip for my Buck knife over the weekend. I won't use the slip all the time, but it does help keep the knife upright in my pocket. It's a little slower to access the knife, but I'm never in that much of a hurry. Also, for trail riding, I sometimes put this knife in my saddlebag, along with other tools like a hoof pick, so it will protect the knife from unnecessary scratches.

Back in the traditional game after long absense. Looking at buying a knife and the site offers pocket slips. Part of me thinks it's a great idea to protect it in pocket. Other part says if it's in my coin pocket, there is no need to protect and will add bulk. I can always grab a slip and only use it when coin/watch pocket is not an option.

Do you use a pocket slip? Why?

I carry my Opinel folders in a slip (pouch) made for them. Because, the Opinel locking bolster has some exposed edges that can catch on threads and so forth. Otherwise, no.
