Do you use a Pocket sheath/slip?

I carry my GEC in a pocket clipped slip that came with a $12 Rough Rider:p It has more to do with keeping the knife up and down and less about worrying over scratches.

I've got a few traditionals on my Christmas list and gift card to Tandy Leather, so I'll probably make a new more robust slip sooner than later.

But if the knife is smaller, i'll use my watch pocket instead.

I've used a few leather slips made from really nice horween leather that yellowed my nickel silver bolsters in about two days. After that, I switched back to my cheap AGR slip made from thin leather and lined with vinyl. Not at authentic as I'd like, but certainly better for the knife.

I recently made this slip sheath with a pocket clip. Best of both worlds, IMHO.

Main reason I went this route is I wanted to start carrying this vintage Kershaw 1993-2 Gentleman's Knife. I love this knife but it's just too big to leave flopping around in a pocket. I wanted it accessible and the slip/clip sheath was the solution. Loving it so far!

I don't use a sheath or slip with folders. But I'm trying carrying a small fixed blade, which necessitates a sheath, so it's in a pocket sheath right now, whilst I evaluate its suitability for my needs. This particular sheath is made with magnets and a little flap, so it works a lot like dude's sheath with a clip. I don't really notice it, even less so than I notice the GEC #66 in my pocket.

Do you have a picture of this?

nope, thought about it once. gifted a few to a friend here from my visit to GEC during the rendezvous, but I don't like to have extra stuff on my scrubs pockets

I sometimes use one for my thin Alox SAKs (such as my Solos). I don't do it to prevent scratches, as those don't bother me. I do it to provide friction to prevent the knife from slipping out of my pocket while seated.

I have one slip made by Horsewright Clothing and Tack (which is very nice) and another that I made myself (which works great, but isn't quite as nice).

Ive used them occasionally, but I've never really warmed up to them. It feels like they add more bulk to my pocket. I really like using a clip and letting the knife hang just right into the pocket. It really keeps it in place and you will never will lose it.

I usually carry Delrin or micarta covered scout patterns with bails, so they normally hang from a lanyard into my back pocket. But if I'm carrying a knife with bone or stag or wood scales, or a pattern without a bail, I use a pocket slip. The pocket slip keeps the knife from going sideways in my pocket, which I hate beyond words. Big folders use a KSF Mainstreet Pocket Slip. Smaller folders use those marvelous CollectorKnives leather clip slips.

I really like the clipped slips like Buzz pictured above. Very handy, just wished the clip was of lower profile. I generally put mine in the vice first and flatten the clip down. My favorite application is to use one to tote the big GEC 98's, leaves a lot of knife above the pocket and very easy to access.

I often use a sheath, here a pair specially made for me with goat leather I kept from Grand-Père. Simple and very soft.

No my two fancy Knifes on in empty pockets with the hanky and the rest go in my other pockets.

No, none for me. I don't carry other stuff that could scratch my knives in the same pocket, I preffer to instantly grab the knife, which disapears more without a sheath or slip. I also like the ideaof building character with the wear, just like with the patina.

I use a pocket slip to keep my Schatt and Morgan from getting scratched by my keys. It is a simple brown leather slip that my Wife made for me.

I use a leather pocket slip with clipless/slipjoint/traditional knives. Not worried about scratches. I only carry knives that I intend to scratch. I often wear pants with large pockets and the width of the slip keeps the knife in a vertical orientation. If I just drop it in it often ends up sideways and I have caught myself subconsciously fixing it. Draws attention and feels uncomfortable.

This. I have to wear slacks to work and most of my knives are 3 3/4. The slip makes it more comfortable. I could careless about scratches but having a 73 turn on you all day is annoying. In jeans it's not that bad so I usually don't unless I'm carrying 2 knives.

I have a small GEC pocket slip I use for my GEC knives, but it bothers me a bit. I use it to preserve the look and finish of my Viper or my Mustang or Talon when I carry them.

I get conflicted. My knife is supposed to be a tool, but I like keeping my newer traditional knives looking nice and not scratched up.

However if I had to produce and open my knife quickly for some emergency situation I have just added another step to getting the blade out. For cutting an apple, take all the time you want. A large aggressive looking rotwieller dog charging me in the woods at the local off leash dog park,,not the time to be fumbling around. "Hang on their Fido, just let me get this out of my pocket sheath and then we are good to go."

And yes in the last 10 years I have encountered unleashed, uncontrolled 85+ lbs dogs like this more than once unfortunately.

Also I carried a Victorinox Alox Soldier for years and years. The idea of a pocket sheath never even came to mind. If something happened to the knife I could buy another one just like it locally at many shops. It is not disposable, and it will always be a personal favourite just due to the amount of time it was carried and used but it is not irreplaceable in a physical sense. Get it all tarnished and marked up. No problem.

But my GEC SFO Talons or my Viper, once they are gone,,,well they are gone.

Oh what a tangled web I have woven for myself with this collecting. I need to drop the sheath in the New Year.

I no longer carry them in sheaths, since they get all slippery and shiny (the sheath that is) -- I almost lost a TC carefully carried in a leather sheath. Thankfully, it was at my friend's place. I'd rather have a scratched up knife than no knife! ;-)

Been thinking about it a little, partly ones for folders, but also looking at some of the pocket sheaths. The Ksf ones from I don't remember, whoever does the bark River stuff are real nice, but some of the clipped ones from CK look pretty nice too. I will carry a fixed ina bushcraft sheath on a dangler in my frp, and people just don't notice. And we're talking an 8 2/3"(shrug, that's how they list the size). The pocket sheaths with an extra pocket on the side look really handy for organization. Like the leather glove idea, definitely have some old ones that would work. I honestly hadn't thought about the friction aspect, but it's a good point, as well as the verticality point.
Thanks, Neal
Ps-Knarfeng/Frank: Collector Knives agrees that the Cold Steel Ranchboss Stockman was basically the last 600 knives CSC made before closing it's doors.

Im looking for a thin, soft slip case for a front pocket knife. I saw the ones esty. May try one of those.

Any suggestions on where to purchase or who makes a light, thin slip case?

Thanks.

I do put the high end items in a slip when I carry them, but I find I carry the all stainless Colonial 2205 scout knife at the bottom of my pocket under the keys most of the time lately. I expected it would get worn like my old Vic soldier did, but it hasn't been affected by the keys and coins so far (it has only been a couple of months of EDC). I think a scotch brite pad would remove any shiny spots when they appear.
