Do your morals have any impact on your knife purchases?

I agree
Yes. There are more than enough upstanding individuals and companies out there, that I do not have to buy from liars, crooks, companies with attitude problems, and even just plain jerks. Even makers with annoying fanboys.

More than enough really good folks out there who make outstanding knives.

I draw the line at racists.
If a maker lets it be known that they are a racist, they'll never see a dime from me.

Other than that, it's simply a matter of do I like the design and is the maker/company honest about the product they provide.

My sentiments exactly. I have a low tolerance for B.S.

For a truly immoral company with a poor public record, I am swayed to not make a supporting purchase with them. Moreso the effect I see for myself, though, is simply that for companies with great records, CS, and communication, along with quality products, I am strongly swayed to purchase from them as opposed to any competition. So ultimately what I see if more of a pull, rather than a push, effect in my purchasing of knives. Companies that hype knives as weapons, as one earlier mentioned, do push me away quite strongly, though, as that is not my personal philosophy behind knives and ownership/carry of them.

I'll take money from jerks, I just don't want to give them money if I don't have to.

So have I , so when I have a choice on if I should give my money to a jerk the choice is no.

I can see that point of view.
It depends for me on whether the jerk is the only one producing/selling the exact item I want.
If there's a jerk and a wonderful fellow both providing the exact same thing, I'll go with the nice guy, :)
It doesn't always work out that way though. :(

Good post

I hear you, a perfect world this isn't.

This is a weird thread. Half the people posting have not even been here on BF a year yet. The rest are old timers. Nothing in between.

I have enough options that I don't need to buy from anyone that has been proven to have a distinct lack of integrity.

On a related note, if that means I won't buy a Strider, Microtech, Quartermaster or whatever, I don't understand why fans of those shady companies would be upset anyway; if I'm not buying them, then it just leaves more for them, doesn't it?

I guess in a global sense, yes. If a company makes outrageous statements or tells me that my money is going to support people and things that I don't agree with, I'll do my best to avoid them.
On a fine grain sense (the owner has beliefs I disagree with) I tend not to care.
If any company teats me and/or their customers like idiots or inconveniences then they can sell to someone else.

I agree, I also don't understand their thought process. But let's not dwell to much on naming them so this doesn't turn into a bash thread.

Any thoughts on the OP?

I see your point. I stick with old school brands, for the most part. USA made, etc. But not always. I will be honest, I have been out of the knife industry for the past 5 years. Used to be a collector, lost my shirt when the economy tanked and had to sell my stuff. Just started to re-aligned with the knife community as a whole. Don't mean no harm, brother.

No harm taken, I hope you get back to where you want to be and your collection grows again.
