Doc-Canada is right, Baldrics are good.

A while back Running-Boar (who doesn't post much here lately) and Doc-Canada were talking about the merits of baldrics for knife carry (I think Bear-the Dog like them too). I believe Running Boar liked them for smaller FBs while paddling a canoe and Doc wears one with Machax as result of bum back that makes belt wear uncomfortable. I got a Machax as a gift a while back and Ilbruche made me a Baldric with a pouch. I've just got serious about wearing it and have to say its good. I find wearing a knife the size and weight of the Machax on my belt uncomfortable after a while, but the baldric distributes the weight in such way that it is very friendly to wear. I thought the knife might shift around when bending or that the knife might slap against my side, neither is the case. The rig is comfortable over the right shoulder for casual wear and great when worn across the chest too. I added a carbon steel trade knife to the front of the rig for fine cutting chores, and am still playing with the content of the pouch. In any case, with the renewed interest in baldrics, I vote that Doc-Canada receive royalties from all current makers:D.

nice addition with the small knife...any chance of a pic unsheathed? i like the really bulbous handle...

nice work there by bruche too.

I love them, even for smaller blades. They are very versatile and can be kept "on top" as you change layers of clothing. None of mine look as good as yours though. That's a nice rig!

I had one I used for my nimravus for a while, very useful, but I kept wanting it one my belt, and there it went.

I think I find it too open, it needs to be on top of all clothing, for me anyways, and I find that too open in a park with some other people. On my belt and under a shirt is where my fixies are for me.

i really like that set up mneedham... ilbruche did a great job with that one.. the baldric is a great way to carry a blade and a few extra goods...

Like Jeff H.. I also wear my knives that way, not just because of the bum back but it is way more versatile. Sitting in a canoe or a lawn chair (yes, I've taken lawn chairs canoeing before :o ) a belt knife is a PITA. The knife on the Baldric can be shoved wherever you want it. Like mn, I also have a small knife (Mora) on the front of the Baldric.

I know you've probably seen this picture before but it's the only one I have depicting the Balric carry.

Also, I wear my clothes in my sleeping bag (because I want to) and taking the knife on and off is also a PITA. With the Baldric, you just have to grab it and flip it on. :D

And, yes, COME ON ROYALTIES!!!:D

Great rigs guys...Jeff H, the middle picture of yours is exactly what I was planning to do, thanks for the pic. I've been leaning towards a baldric for all the reasons given, but didn't want to get into leather work until I actually tried one. Now I think I have to push the project up on the list. :-)

Royalties. LOL. I like the rigs! Thats an excellent way to carrya couple of hundred feet of parachord too.

Jeff H., I like the paracord and Jute (?) rigs, they look great. I agree that having to wear the rig on the outside of the clothing is both a plus and a minus, its great to be able to just sling it over your shoulder or lay it down, but it also makes the rig pretty visible, which can be an issue if you are somewhere civilized. Guess it's a good reason to stay away from civilization....

Jeff H.,
Have to add my vote. If I couldn't get a full-on leather baldric like mneedham's got, I'd be really really fine with the paracord model you show in the middle photo.

I find baldrics perfect for large tools.
I've carried my kukris on a pistol belt, but that gets uncomfortable if you don't wear the whole LBE with the suspenders. I quickly went to a baldric style carry with a Mosin Nagant sling, and very recently to the Sharpshooter Baldric. I also like to have a knife (in my case a BRKT Aurora) on the front of the strap.

That rig looks a little big for your kid! :D

Glad you like it. I like baldrics especially in the summer when I am wearing shorts with no belt loop. It's hard to take those summer dips in the swimming hole with leather on your belt.

I am lovin these things. I have seen them with the large fixed blades, but was thinkin bout one for a smaller knife. I like it! I am gonna do one. Great pics too, I am lovin bruces leatherwork. That pouch looks handy.

Jeff H- I am likin the one in your first pic, Is that leather cord? Any chance you could pm me a little tutorial, or some pics on how you braded it? Thats exactly what im wantin.

Oh, and I got your patches out in the mail!!

Ditto on the paracord baldric. What are the best knots for it? I'd like one that widens out the paracord, uses a lot of paracord, but that is really quick and easy to untie.

L!

Does anybody sell a paracord, or better yet a leather, baldric like the ones pictured? I'd be interested in buying, if so.

Knivesshipfree has the leather baldrics by sharpshooter. Ilbruche made the one in mneedhams pics......
