Doctor Walter Welch - We're going to miss you

It is at times like this that I realize what a truly unique place we have here. There were many times I would say to myself, "man, that guy is ...... (brilliant, smart, kind, etc).

James, Bobby, Mel and now you Doc....we miss you all!

Doc was the most reasonable, mature member here. No matter how off track some members or some topics got, as you were reading down and saw a response from Doc, you knew you would get reason and wisdom.

After reading the posts so far on this thread I must say that I feel like I have really missed out on knowing someone special. I never knew Walt Welch. I wish I had. It sounds like he really did bring happiness to those he knew.

May he rest in peace.

Hard to believe. Another one of our stalwarts gone! :(

Rest in peace, Doc.

After reading Gus's post and everyone else's.. I am truly saddend by never getting the chance to know Walt. I think he would be happy to see how many ppl he touched and knew, cared for him. Not many ppl in this world make a differnce anymore.. and very rarely do so many ppl care about each other enough to say it. Maybe Walts life amounts to how many lives he touched in one way or another. Not a bad way to go out.... God bless you sir.

Now that the shock is wearing off Ill add a picture or two. Walt was my friend, he came to visit us a couple summers ago and brought flashlights and fine wine by the case as gifts. I guess ill break out a bottle tonite. He was a very humourous man, and I enjoyed our time together. Here is a pic of us that weekend.

Walt wrote me a few really nice emails when I was going through hard times, especially way back when my marriage was breaking up a couple of years ago. A wise man, to be sure. And he only just posted 10 days ago. Bleh.

From what I knew of Walt, he was all good. Always insighful, even if you didn't particularly agree with his point of view, he still gave you something to think about.

Will definitely think of him everytime somebody mentions a gold coin Sebbie :)

I suspected something was amiss when I noticed the declining frequency of his posts.

Walt and I correspondend frequently by e-mail over a varriety of subjects. Mad Dog Knives, Fancy Gold Coin Sebenzas, .45 autos, and his Porsche were some of his favorite toys. Never have I met a individual who was so knowledgeable and so willing to share that knowledge with those of us who sought answers to our questions.

I can say that Walt brought life into every one of his posts!

Rest in Peace my friend!

His posts would either bring a smile to my face, or make me stop and think.

May the path ahead of you be a smooth one. RIP, Walt.

Paul

My condolences on the loss of Dr. Walt. I never knew the man, but I am sure impressed by the outpouring of emotion in tribute to this man. It is the true mark of an individual's impact that we see the extent of when they pass. I hope that he knew just how much he touched so many people. I wish that I could have had the chance to meet him. A true loss.:(

Walt was the reason I finally registered and posted here at BFC. I followed him from the Benchmade forum and haver truley enjoyed his personality over the years. Rest in peace, Walt, you will be missed.

Wow... I never knew the man... But have read his posts here, and always appreciated what he had to say... and am impressed by what everyone else has said about him. I feel unfortunate not to have known him more than just reading his posts here.

I hope for all the best for you on the other side Mr.Welch....

I've never been known to sugar coat things, and am pretty blunt about what I feel... So I guess I will just say it. This sucks. This really really sucks.
Walt was a great guy. He could always make you laugh. I never had the pleasure of meeting hte good Doc in person, and now I never will. I'll miss you Doc, you were one of the reasons this forum is so great.

I just want to add one thing. This right here really makes all the name calling and arguing we do on this forum seem really pathetic and stupid. We waste time and energy attempting to slam and flame each other over differences of opinions. I am just as guilty as the next person. We waste time that could be used to form bonds and friendships with men such as the Doc. Men we can learn from, men that can help us grow. Men that can make us laugh. And times like this, men that make us cry. It really puts into perspective how pointless all the fighting we do here really is. Walt, I'll miss your honesty, your compassion, and your good will towards all. Rest easy buddy.

A thread of this news was posted at CandlePowerForums. I wish to express my condolences to the good people of BladeForums. A great man as Dr. Welsh is hard to find and greater to lose.
