Does anyone actually USE their Busse knives?

Most of these pictures look like backyard hiking to me!

Wonder how many cords of wood you guys split a year with your Busse mauls???

Yeah, I wish this was my Backyard! :p

What's the point of buyin' one if ya ain't gonna use it?

All my knives are users except for maybe a few vintage 80 to 100 years old.

If there's a lot of wood, i'd use a splitting maul, for hiking/camping it's kind of hard to carry one. That said, most of the pics i've posted were backyard pics testing out new knives, i don't bring a camera anywhere.

I never have had to split wood when camping/hiking....we just burn em as we find em....a little whiskey gets em goin....

Guess there ain't much use for these machete Busses except cutting wood and brush...they look really cool though and I am sure they keep the riff raff away when used for landscaping around the homestead!

You call yourself Busse Lover but you sure seem to be acting trollish and bashing on Busse's in a lot of posts I see from you.

Many of us practice knife skills, fire building, and so forth in comfortable situations so they are there if we need them in more dire situations. I can start a campfire easily with a lighter and some alcohol fuel for my stove, but I still choose to try to start them with natural tinder and a firesteel, so I know I've got half a chance of getting a fire going if I get into a situation where I don't have perfect supplies with me.

Also, batoning is considered by many to be safer than a splitting maul, especially if you're tired or impaired in other ways. But don't let that stop you from judging anyone who does things differently than you choose to do them - needing alcohol to get your fire started, for example

Not all back yard use.
....
But lots of back yard use as well.

Big +1 to that. Also, when I'm using a knife in the woods, I'm far less likely to be wasting time with a camera. Messing around at home, I'm trying to document the performance of a blade, or take some pictures to share with the guys on the forum. In the woods, I'm trying to cook my dinner or warm my bones. Pictures are the last thing on my mind when using a blade "for real".

But those "for real" usages are generally a lot more comfortable because my backyard testing already confirmed for me that the knife performs the way I want it to.

No disrespect to Busse knives intended....I do have to laugh sometimes at how they are "used".....Busse knives are the awesomest!!!!

Wonder how many owners chopping wood up in the back yard ever go camping...Wonder how many who do have ever been in a "situation"? Nothing against being prepared, but let's be honest, most people, not saying you, are just playing with their toys....

And walking is safer than driving...I heat with wood; don't think I will be batoning 6 cords of wood a year anytime soon.....

Ain't judging anyone, just questioning what some call "using"....Again, no disrespect.....we all have our toys....let's just be honest about it....

Busselover, since maybe you have it all figured out, why don't you show us all some pics of how you use your Busse knife or knives? I'd love to see some "real" usage!:D

Busselover, its easy to armchair judge someone, I agree with Mustardman, till I see your proof of use, I call bull. Put up or shut up.

Edit: Greg beat me to the draw dagnabbit!:p

Used a CGFBM, FFBM and NMFBM today to chop elm and oak branches up for fire wood. Only 3 inches diameter at the thickest. Some was fresh (cut 4-5 weeks ago) some was dead standing.

The blades all worked very well as usual. The best bit? I got to let my friend have a go and he's even deeper in the infi hole now. The other part was I introduced a few guys to Busse who'd never seen one before. All were impressed by the blades, how they performed (and the prices they cost :D).
Sadly no pics today.

Mine get used all the time and as a matter of fact I am getting ready to go out to the fire pit and batton the living S*** out of some logs.
It is 6 degrees and minus 12 with the wind chill, a summers day for winter in New England.

Busse knives rule!

Cheers

To me, they are tools, not toys. I use them when I have a reason to, just like a hammer, a wrench, or a screwdriver. I am not in the habit of taking pictures of my tools when I use them because usually I am too busy trying to accomplish a task and it would slow me down. Also, my primary use of the Busse knives I still own (I had a slug of them but got rid of nearly all of them, but that is another story....) is for dressing and skinning game. It is hard to take pictures when you are elbow deep in a deer's chest....When is the last time you took a picture of your crescent wrench or chainsaw?

Let's be honest, some people actually use Busse knives as you would any other tool. They don't collect them, they don't invest in them, and they don't take pictures of them. Some people buy a car and just drive it. Others pimp it out, wash and wax it every other day, keep it covered, take pictures of it, etc....There is a difference between a tool and a toy.

To me, a "user" is something you put in hand when you have something that needs to be cut, not something you put in hand when you want to cut something. Just my opinion, as I am sure you have yours....

But hey, no regrets. There is nothing wrong with being knife crazed and enjoying the simple pleasures of cutting a bunch of stuff for no reason other than you like it, and like to share it with others of like mind. No disrespect to those that like to play with knives, collect them, invest in them, take pictures of them, sleep with them, whatever....If it feels good....just find human behavior humorous at times, as I am sure many here do as well....

Will go and drink more.....

Perhaps you should have called yourself "busseliker", LOL. This is a Busse knife forum full of Busse knife knuts, so yeah, this'll be where you find the highest concentration of 'Busse lovers'... Those who DO collect, use, play with, carry, sleep with, modify, talk, compare, photo, share, and enjoy the company of others who love Busse's. Hell, I'll admit it... I don't need even a single Busse for my day to day activities, yet I own a boatload that I collect, use, carry, play with, and yes... Even sleep with. That's right, I got a SH-v fighter under a pillow next to me in my bed in a Rowe sheath and a BOSS Street on the nightstand. Ya wanna laugh?? Feel free, but remember where you're at. Frankly, I find it odd that you chose the name, "busselover", yet you don't seem to be very enthusiastic about them and seem to enjoy knocking some of us for how we choose to use them here. If you're as serious as you say about your use of a knife, then maybe the W&SS Forum may be more to your liking. Here's where we have a lot of fun, and a lot of it being tongue-in-cheek humor with the one thing we all have in common...

Our fondness for BUSSE knives!!!

OINK!

.

Let's see if I understand this. You deride other folks pics as "backyard hiking", but admit that when you use them (for real, it is implied) you are too busy to take pics. <banned smiley>

btw, Cobalt used to split several cords of wood each winter to heat his house, using his SHBM.

TROLL.
