Does anyone EDC a fixed blade?

Well I am wondering if anyone does? Ever since I got my Case Slabside, I have thought about it. It is legal here in PA. It is small enough to not be real offensive I think. Keep your shirt untucked and it would cover most of it anyways. At 7 1/4" it would fit in some from pockets. Any thoughts? I am really liking this knife and my thoughts on fixed blades has totally changed on the past month or so. :D

I EDC a RAT Cutlery Izula in my right front pocket. Tiny little thing, and not exactly traditional, but it does wonders at just about any task. It's a constant companion. :)

Smaller fixed blades like that are so handy. Right now I carry a CS mini-hunter at 6 1/4 on a neck chain or front pocket. It has never offended anyone as far as I know. With a bone beauty like the CASE, I'd leave the shirt tucked in.

I think you should go for it. if it's all legal in your area that is

nice knife. don't know how i missed that one. is there a CV version? i carried a fixed blade edc for a while, but kept running into minor problems with police. questioned every time it was noticed, hostile treatment etc. one of the times i was questioned it was due to a concerned citizen calling the police seemingly worried about public safety. though it's legal here in MA, it's not worth the trouble as far as i'm concerned. i do carry one in the woods though. hopefully you have better luck than i did.

I carry one in my laptop backpack, If there was a way to carry it without it being noticable, I would.

I EDC either a RAT RC4 horizontal accross the back or my H,I, R-10 the same way. Both knives have an average blade lenght of 4.5"-5".

I carry this quite often, it's a little Japanese San Mi 3 1/4" blade 7 1/4" overall. It is quite handy for many task... Never had any problems carrying it...

Yes......

A "Traditional" Becker Bk11. And a JK Handmade Knives mini Nessmuck ,which is a traditional pattern :), are the two I most often carry. Along with my ever present SAK.

Interesting! Looks kind of like an upscale version of the A.G. Russell™ Woodswalker

Who made yours?

I don't have much in the way of fixed blades. I've always been a folder kind of guy despite the fact that FBs are sturdier. The three I own aren't used much, but I have an Ontario RAT 3, a RAT RC-4, and a custom I won from Doug at DP Knives on the Wilderness and Survival Forums last autumn; it was his hundredth knife forged, has a 3" blade (give or take), buffalo horn (I think) slabs, and a very nice leather sheath. I carry it in my Camelbak when hiking because it's so light, but I still haven't really put it through the paces.

I almost always carry folders, but if i want some really pointy or i knife i can use with my left hand, i'll bring my CS Braveheart along. legal for me to conceal in this state to. if i'm out in the woods however, i'll put my Randall made on my belt. I think anyone that gives you trouble for that case slab side needs mental help, it looks to me like a very nice traditional knife.:D

PS: People will consider giving you trouble for anything.. one day i was in a supermarket with my minimag on a bead chain around my neck.. they way people looked at it you would think i had a freakin pipe bomb or something. nobody ever stares at my orange zing that way...

It's A.G.Russell sheath... works well with this knife....

I bought the Knife from Japanese Woodworker, a few years back.. They still might be available?

I carry a small sheath knife sometimes as my "unfolding pocket knife".

Last fall I had my left hand very handicaped by a thumb tendon condition, and I used a Buck Hartsook or my Mike Miller pocket fixed blade. No having to open anything, no hidden areas for dirt or debris, and just slip back in sheath when done. It was kind of an eye opening experiance.

After almost 30 years in a machine shop turning wrenches, cranking on Bridgeport mill handles and the like, I have some arthritis issues in some of my finger joints, and a stiff pocket knife with heavy springs is a painful task to open. The unfoldiing penknife avoids that. A small sheath knife about the size of a open peanut or baby butterbean is a wonderfull thing. Short enough overall to fit in the side pocket of my jeans, and soooo easy to use.

There's so many good points about a small unfolding pocket knife. Even that little Hartsook did everything I did with a peanut, just without the class. How much blade do I need for zipping open a bag of dog kibble, a box from UPS, mail, opening a d--med plastic blister pack, or many other pocket knife chores?

Yeah, an unfolding peanut. The new urban companion. I wonder if it would sell?

Not yet but sometime in the future I will. I have been waiting for a year now (and expect to wait another 6 more months) for my order for a Charles May FireAnT. Full length is only 5 3/8" and it will have a leather sheath that I can wear around the neck when fishing or attach to my lanyard. I suspect some days it may make its way into my pocket.

I sometimes carry a Gene Ingram Pocket Hippo, or Charles May Fireant, or May Handi Scandi.
