I carry a small sheath knife sometimes as my "unfolding pocket knife".
Last fall I had my left hand very handicaped by a thumb tendon condition, and I used a Buck Hartsook or my Mike Miller pocket fixed blade. No having to open anything, no hidden areas for dirt or debris, and just slip back in sheath when done. It was kind of an eye opening experiance.
After almost 30 years in a machine shop turning wrenches, cranking on Bridgeport mill handles and the like, I have some arthritis issues in some of my finger joints, and a stiff pocket knife with heavy springs is a painful task to open. The unfoldiing penknife avoids that. A small sheath knife about the size of a open peanut or baby butterbean is a wonderfull thing. Short enough overall to fit in the side pocket of my jeans, and soooo easy to use.
There's so many good points about a small unfolding pocket knife. Even that little Hartsook did everything I did with a peanut, just without the class. How much blade do I need for zipping open a bag of dog kibble, a box from UPS, mail, opening a d--med plastic blister pack, or many other pocket knife chores?
Yeah, an unfolding peanut. The new urban companion. I wonder if it would sell?
