Does anyone have pics of rare Spydies?

Thanks for the pics, guys. Great stuff! It's nice to see JKM's scans still making the rounds, too.

That is indeed a large Native in the prototype pic. It was called the "Chief" at one point, then the name was changed to the "Native Pride". Last I heard, it isn't going to get produced.

That is also a Chinook Jr. proto in the same pic. A larger version of that knife was made as well (in the same configuration). Too bad the Chinook Jr. never went into production; it does look very cool!

I'm still upset that the Calypso Junior Lightweight wasn't made with burgandy handles. I carry one with an ugly black handle almost all the time. :)

Personally,,,,,wrong answer!!! I know a few "Hoodlums" that would buy a knife like that!!!;)

"Most" of the curved Spydies are represented in various forms, but still trying to find one or two...

Thanks Hawkbill. I'm still kicking myself for not getting a plainedge Civilian from Golden Edge Cutlery back in '95? when they closed them out. Nice collection. Leo G.

Hawkbill, thanks for the great pics. In the last month I have gotten my first Civilian and Matriarch. The curved ones do tend to grow on you.

Hawkbill,

Nice collection. Do you have a listing of the knives you have in that display case. I'd also be interested in which ones you are still searching for.

Rod

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Rod, I have most every blade stamping I have heard of regarding the Civilian and Harpy, Matriarch, and Merlin. The only version of the Civilian I don't have (that I know of) is the prototype with bright aluminum scales (non-Tufram coated). Also represented amidst the factory knives is a Santa Fe stoneworks Harpy with gold-lip MOP onlay in beautiful web pattern. It's brother (white MOP) rides around in my pocket (my only jewelry).

One of my motives to post the pic is to elicit comments from the forum about any other variants I may be missing.

From the top: Merlin in it's original Harpy-FRN configuration (molded clip AUS-8 blade) followed by Merlins plain and serrated in both ATS-55 and without/with the Boye dent. Next row is Harpys; starting with the rare plain edge and serrated with springs in vent holes, followed by serrated GIN-1 marked blade, ATS-55 blade Harpy, same w/Boye dent, Santa Fe custom, and VG-10 blade. The G-10 Harpys include the GIN-1 blade, & ATS-55 blade. Matriarchs: Gray BF model, Blk ATS-55, Blk ATS-55 w/Boye dent, and Blk VG-10 blade.
Civilians: Plain edge Tufram G-2 steel blade, Serr edge Tufram GIN-1 marked blade, Serr edge Tufram ATS-55 blade, G-10 serr GIN-1 blade, G-10 serr ATS-55 blade, G-10 serr ATS-55 w/Boye dent, and the Carbon Fiber handled series, ATS-55 w/Boye dent 2 left & 2 right handed each plain or serrated. phew!!

Hawkbill...
Great collection! The Matriarch in this pic I believe was a prototype and was pictured in South Africa by SpyderNut.

Hey, that's right! I forgot about that proto Heyns posted. Thanks for the tip. Once I have all the production-models, the obvious choice will be to pursue all the prototypes (much more difficult).
;)
Thanks, Chinook

Ah, the Harpy. I have one of the older versions, with the integrated clip, buried in my knife box. I completely forgot about that knife until I saw the picture. I'll have to dig it out tonight!

Hawkbill,

I have to admit I was hoping to get info on styles I am missing from my collection as well. You have a truly fabulous list. The only one I can add is the plain edged Harpy left handed. See photo. Since I have the knife in plain edge, I have to assume it exists somewhere out there in serrated as well. Ahhh, the joys of the pursuit.

 WOW! That's the FIRST leftie Plain-edge early Harpy I've seen. Thanks Rod, for the chance to feast my peepers on yours. Nice bunch of Harpy's you've got there, too! I'd have to agree w/you about there being a good bet the company made a lefty variant in serrated as well...It's both a blessing & curse to realize what one is MISSING in any collection, but I did ask for this:p

Hawkbill,
What about the Matriarchs with the logo of the FBI (FBI, DEA, some fed law enforcement branch). I have seen them for sale a few times for big bucks for a Matriarch.

Also,
is that a Civilian/matriarch trainer at the bottom of the pic? If so, where does one acquire such a piece?

One2:
I think for now I'll forgo the spl edition runs designated for a group unless I fall-into a deal along the way. My challenge is trying to handle production models and protos...but I certainly appreciate the info. Personally, I haven't seen one of these agency-specific Matriarchs yet. As a side note, I may soon be acquiring a G-2 marked Harpy (which I don't have) from a fellow forumite.
Your keen observation did indeed find a molded Civilian-trainer I purchased several years ago from Shomer-Tec out of WA, I believe. I'm not sure if they still sell them, though. Molded from an aluminum scaled Civie.
Brian

I am almost positive that there was one for sale on here not too terribly long ago. You could search the for sale forums pretty easily if you had any interest. As I recall I have seen them advertised twice. Here and somewhere else.

On another note, you would not happen to have any contact info for Shomer-tec that I could ask about that trainer, do you? Would be nice if Spyderco would offer one, but I am not holding my breath with all they have on their plate.

 What the, where the, ....how the.....Ok.. Did the Laguiole ever come with a plain edge?? Where would one find one of these and what is an expected $$$ value??? Laguiole's usually come with a miryad of options, was that the case with the spydie as well?
