Does anyone have pics of rare Spydies?

nervous,

The Laguiole did come plain (RL01P) & serrated (RL01S), the only option was the sheath (RL01C). I have a plain & really like it.

My 1994 catalog lists the price at $119.95 and the sheath at $19.95.

3 7/8 Gin 1 blade, weight 2.6 OZ, length 8 5/8

Thanks, Big. I got started at my local knife store and added some other sources along the way. Demand has continued to grow for the more obscure variants, so if you want a mint condition plain edge Civie in Tufram, you'll pay more than the $145 I did in '99 (it was a deal even then!). Many have been purchased/traded for in this forum, and through ebay. I just saw a plain Tufram Civie for sale in the "For sale by indiv." section last week for 200.

***CORRECTION>>>The seller wanted $220***

Have you handeled the "other" Laguiole's? and does the Spydie make those pail in compairson (as one would suspect;) ) I have loved the geometry and flowing lines of the Laguiole but have been afraid it just wouldnt stand up to much more than bread and cheese (sorry bad french analogy there).

nervous,

The Spyderco version of the traditional Laguiole is very high quality and uses dual brass liners for strength, also the design is improved greatly by the use of a lockback. Since the knife is long & thin it has its limitations but mine makes one hell of a classy letter opener at work.

This is a great thread! :D

Anybody have images of the green Spydie "family"? The Delica, Endura, and Ladybug? Were there any other Spydies in green?

Grover,

Welcome to the forums,

The rescue was made for a while in colors, green included.
The Blade tech Ocelot prototype(25 made) has green G-10 scales with black paw prints. I think the production version of the Ocelot will also have a green FRN handle.

Here is a pic of a folder I had for a while, one of the very few that earned a name, as I don't normally call them much if anything! But this one seemed like a Ricky to me, small blade, nice jigged bone and almost a wharncliff blade with an exceptionally sharp point and nice thin cutting edge... It was just too nice to use! So I sold her to a family out west...nice knife! Hard to find now a days...

Gary, it´s a Spyderco C27P Jess Horn. Got one too, #53. Jigged bone scales, ATS-34 blade steel. However, it´s the clip that really separates it from all the others. A real pcs of art. SS, rigid and hand polished. BTW, does anybody know how old this model is?

DePaul,

The C27 is a great knife, I have #61,
The jigged bone Horn first appears in a 1994 spyderco catalog in both plain & serrated.
Mine has the number on the bolster and no blade signature and I have seen others with a signature and a number on the blade.

How old are the hole-less Jess Horns? Does the grooved rectangle opener work as well as the SpyderHole?
It is a beautiful knife!

It was very beautiful, I know of one person that has one forsale if anyone is interested, he isn't on the forums or computer I don't think but can get in touch with him if someone wanted to know, not sure how much he wants for it, met him last December at the Baltimore show, hadn't seen him in a few years and he had one of those in it's zippered pouch, very nice.

The groove worked pretty good, seemed a bit sharp to open quickly, more a gents knife and not a fast one hander. And the clip is neat on those, I was sorely tempted to remove mine but the knife was just too slick to mess with!

Mine didn't have a number, but did have a signature on the blade...

Ah-h-h yes! The C27P Jess Horn. What a super quality, classy folder! Still have a brand new one tucked away after all these years in it's pouch. Have been tempted to sell it a couple times but I just can't part with it. Sal said a couple of years ago that it was his attempt to make a "production/custom" as quality as a pure custom. He succeeded! These exude more quality than a whole lot of customs! At a price point of $450.00 though, they were doomed from the start. God bless Spyderco for always trying!

Search works! Thanks Spark.

Bump!!
In this thread are the pic's of the proto-Vesuvius. Page 2 I think.

I don't feel that the price of 450 dollars doomed the Horn at all. Afterall, true Horn collectors would gladly pay 450 compared to what most of Jess' knives sell for!

God that collection of hawkbill and reverse recurve blades are lovely! :D

It's been awhile since I have seen this thread ;)
I wish I would have posted a pic of the Black-Bladed Delica I had awhile back:mad:

Keep the pics coming if ya have a rare Spydie!!!
:)

There are some black Delicas at bladeart.com. Also there is the CF Ladybug, the Pegassus and some experimental models.
Overall, that's a great topic posted here. I enjoyed a lot. Thanks, guys for sharing your pics with us. Now I wonder what will Sal show us here ;)
