Does anyone know Tom Bromley ? (Knife74)

..... simply you read any number of threads here where buyers have paid via gift and explained their case with supporting documents and received assistance from Paypal. I am sure that Paypal also understand the confusion that exists for folks surrounding the issues and see it as good business to be proactive in helping and educating at the same time. I don't espouse breaching their TOS and there should be no expectation of help, however history has shown that they do sometimes choose to do so. I also point out that if *I* here use the gift option and a CC I pay the usual % on top, it is NOT free and Paypal is not denied they fee. I do that when I am in fact sending funds to friends in the US, not for shopping on the EX.

Hey Andy, could you link me up to a few?

I cannot find any that had Paypal helping someone who used the gift option for a sale in violation of their TOS.

A link would be appreciated so I can read it and stop proclaiming Paypal wont help!!

Thanks

Unfortunately I have to say that you are wrong on certain people. When I sell goods I will give the option of add fees or gift. If the person wants to save a few bucks I give them the option. I personally still treat it like any other sale and follow through accordingly. Saying that anyone who has gift option in their sale thread isn't trust worthy is a bit much don't you think? Now if someone asks for gift and refuses to take a standard payment then I would be absolutely worried about doing business with someone like that. By no means am I condoning what the seller has done here...... Bad business for sure!!!!!

I suppose I could decide that being willing to cheat PayPal does not reflect a broader dishonesty. After all, I don't like the ePrey empire all that much.

But I don't do business with anyone suggesting that a sale is a gift.

As always, YMMV.

... I will have to re read of few of the threads posted here in the past month as that is where I saw them. I don't think I imagined it....but there were a few rum 'n cokes in between.

Let me start reading but certainly I am only talking from this very forum.

You didn't imagine it. There was at least one instance recently where Paypal backed the buyer even though payment was made as a "gift".

Phew... !!! I started looking but the thread was not obvious.... !!! And please don't think I am saying gift is the thing to do, that is NOT my position but it is still worth the time of the OP at the least opening a dialogue with paypal is needs be.

I have this sellers return address and if anyone needs it, I can post it. Gift or not, its still a crime.

Could you post a link? I simply cannot find any info anywhere that leads me to believe Paypal will help. According to Paypal, they will lock your account for violating their TOS and as a legal matter cannot get a person to return a "gift". I would love, for my own well-being get a final answer on this so if. I am wrong when spewing that Paypal won't help I will finally STHU.

No I don't think it's a bit much.Quite frankly I find your condoning the practice disturbing. Anyway you look at it you are cheating Paypal for their services. If you don't like there terms don't use them. It's pretty simple. I guess some people have ethics and some people don't.

I think resorting to personal attacks over a question shows yours ;). Ymmv have a nice day :).

You'll never see a negative feedback thread with my name in the title...... That I can promise you.

No, I cannot post a link and am not willing to go looking for it, but I assure you that it just happened within the last few months. I was quite surprised myself...

thanks for the help

I have read almost every GB&U thread in 2014 and cannot find where Paypal helped someone who purchased goods using the gift option. I really needed to know for sure so If my opinions have been wrong I can correct them. I was finally able to get thru to Paypal and they told me "no way".

This is why I asked for a link and have no intention of taking your word as gospel. I need to see it with my own eyes and until then I will continue to spew that using the Gift option and then having the deal implode leaves you with zero recourse, ZERO.......

I just opened a dispute in PayPal. Will everyone who has nothing constructive to say about this case and this seller please stop. I've sent multiple PMs and emails and have heard nothing. I have no confirmation of shipping or any communication.

As for PayPal gift, if you don't know the seller don't pay. If it disturbs you when someone suggests it, don't deal with them. If you choose to do so, recognize it's at your risk. I've dealt with "gift" option payments on both sides. If I have the least bit of suspicion, I won't send it "gift." For international sales, where too much can go wrong in transit, I can understand the request for payment via "gift" to put all the risk on the buyer. I can also understand the desire to make an item more affordable.

Bottom line: choose how to pay and whom to deal with. Hopefully, everyone now understands the dangers of gift and we can move on.

Has anyone else had problems with this seller? Does anyone know him personally? Can anyone speak to whether or not he is ok? I prefer to think something tragic has happened than that someone would sell their honor and integrity for a couple hundred bucks.

That’s what I like about times like these. How it just brings us all together.

You summed it up well Josh.

It could be worse.

My week has not gotten any better. Ripped off by Tom Dooley and now my Doctor say’s I have to give up alcohol. Not cut down but give it away completely! Become a teetotaller! They say it comes in three’s. What next? being allergic to INFI steel? Dark week indeed.:thumbdn:

UCPOPO yes please post the sellers return address. I want to send him a turd in a box with a poetic note something like “Eat Shite and Die!”

His ebay name would be good also if anyone knows it. I could have some fun with that.

I remember that thread, it was about 3-5 months ago. The only way I imagine they backed the buyer is if he indicated that he mistakenly paid by goods.

His name seems Travis Bromley, and from the instagram photos appears well to do (golf, Mac book, number of followers and general lifestyle). Hopefully he delivers on his promises, good luck!
