Does anyone like Gerber knives?

I have one left, an original Gator. It was my second knife, purchased in the early-mid 90s, shortly after they were introduced IIRC. It's still sharp, solid, and works just fine. Wouldn't waste my money on a new one now, in fact just recently got rid of my last.

Fiskars makes Gerber knives?....I know one thing, the Fiskars machetes SUCK !, the handle is all loose and feels really unsafe to use.

I got this one last year.

USA Made, button lock , anodized aluminum scales over ss, CPM S30V steel, excellent F&F ...yeah I like it.

I have a Freeman Hunter in S30V and a couple of 154CM Gators that have proven to be excellent knives.

An old paraframe is the knife that got me interested in this hobby; it still gets thrown in my waistband if Im wade fishing. I also have a gerber fast draw.

I picked this up off a guy who emigrated to New Zealand in the early 80,s.. It is a nicely made knife and unused... FES

I don't mind them, for cheap knives, that I'm not afraid to abuse and use, they aren't bad. I only have the Instant, but so far seems like an ok blade for $40. I also have used their Gator machete and Mid Evo, both of which for the price aren't bad. If you want quality it costs, there is a few exceptions to this though. By no means are they anywhere near perfect, but I also don't think that they are complete crap either.

I've got the single edge version that I bought and used for a work knife back in the 80's. It stood up to a lot of abuse (I was doing mobile home deliveries, set-ups and repair at the time). But still, my Gerbers that I consider good knives were from last century.

I'm a Gerber fan. I'm not afraid to admit it. Mostly.

They have a stigma these days, and I keep hearing about how much people hate them, but I own easily 20 Gerbers and have never had a problem with any of them.

Sure, some of them don't hold an edge as long as some of my other knives. Some of them needed a little work to be what I consider sharp, some needed a lot of work. I've never had one fail on me. I don't baby them but I don't really abuse them either, except for the lmf2 and the Epic. The Epic I bought as a beater and after putting an edge on it and using it a ton, I really like it. The lmf2 I would bet my life on.

Gerber knives are not high-end. They're not low-end either. They're a working man's knife and tool, and in my experience they perform well when expected to perform tasks they're designed to perform.

YMMV

I've had a couple of Gerber's multi-tools break on me, one of their folders break on me, even their god damned hatchet broke on me. I don't abuse my tools, this was from just regular use. I don't buy Gerber anymore (may they rot in hell and only have bad pie).

It's interesting. Gerber really isn't very popular on this forum (and several others) but their review ratings on Amazon.com are mostly 4 and 5 stars.

I have a Gerber LMF II that has been treated worse than a knife deserves to be treated and it still is going strong.

Keep in mind that the people who buy those knives aren't exactly knife aficionados. One of my buddy bought a $5 flea market knife at china town and thinks it's the best thing ever. Another buddy of mine who while starting his knife/firearms business knew nothing about knives, did his own "marketing research" online and found the most searched knife is "Gerber" followed by "Cold Steel".

I'm sure all of you have met those guys who has an interest in knives and only knows about Gerber, Cold Steel, and SOG. You start mentioning striders, CRK, Hinderers and they don't have a clue what you're talking about. The majority of the knife market out there are people who buy $5 knives, and that's why most retail stores (target, walmart, big 5, REI) carry $5 knives.

I have the original BMF and LMF. These were top quality knives. Now they are just average IMO. I bought my boys and their friends the gerber/bear grylls survival knife ($36 amazon). They are great starter knives.

I will never buy another Gerber product again in life. I was given a Gerber F.A.S.T. Draw knife as a gift for Christmas a few years ago. After about 2 months the spring and lock gave up the ghost, making the knife unsafe for use. I contacted Gerber through their website on their "Lifetime Warranty". I got an automated email response telling me that someone would be contacting me within a week. Nothing. About a year later, I came across the knife as I was going through my desk drawers cleaning them out. I again contacted Gerber, and got another automated response that I would be contacted within a week...Then nothing. A month later I contacted them again, and did not even get an automated response back.

In short, their knives are crap, and the warranty does not exist, because they just ignore any warranty claim.

That just goes to show the difference between knowledgeable knife users and the folks that shop at Amazon.

It does not surprise me at all.

Besides, there are other knives at Walmart that are in the same price range, yet much better quality. And the manufactures don't bald face lie by saying that a warranty exists, when it does not.
