Does anyone like Ka-Bar?

This is just our perspective on this. Not set in stone but, things changed and we expect a lot out of what we have. Any Marine will tell you this.

Semper Fidelis!!!

Funny because my friend who just got back pretty much said the same thing. Though they still issue them. However the ones I own he said just felt different. Something with the newer ones perhaps?

Feel different?
In what ways..

I do know that the Ka-bar styled knives weren't all made by Ka-bar.Ontario, and Camillus also, if I'm correct made these kind of knives too.
Maybe the tang is being more narrow in the newer Ka-bar version?
Can someone tell more about this?

I've got a few, one MK2 and a couple Kukri Machetes. Great value for the money, but definitely doesn't give you the feel of indestructible. Edge retention is okay, but not great (mine definitely lost its edge hardcore and I even managed to bend the guard during ONE day of hard use). I hear tell you can get D2 tool steel versions of the MK2, which may hold up better, but while the knives are pretty great, they're hardly the best out there. I'd probably go with an ESEE or a Bark River or HI Khuk if I was going to have to bet my life in combat to a fixed blade. But in terms of a solid knife to bring camping and such, it's hard to do better for the cost.

Ka-Bar is a great company, their products are great as well are their prices. I own 2 BK-2's, a BK-3 and a BK-9. All of these have served me well.

Dunno he didnt specify and I didnt care enough to go into it. When I see him ill ask and see what he says

I like Ka-bar as a brand, and have a couple traditional pocket folders that I like a lot by them.

I also like the "Ka-bar" Ka-bar as a decent utility knife for large need camping chores. I don't think the specs have changed on Mil-spec versions supplied by Uncle Sam, and have even had a commercial Camullis version that was fine, given that I don't expect to defend my life with it if theres an alternative (like a gun) handy.

I carried a WWII version in SERE school and 'Nam, and it was a good utility knife.

I think there are better designs for combat now. I never had need that way: we had plenty of ammo.

KaBar isn't talked about as much probably because a) everybody pretty much already has one, b) everybody likes them, and c) everybody is so familiar with them that they are not quite the "conversation" pieces that newer knives and technology are.

Becker does get quite a bit of "press" on this forum and they are made by Ka-Bar.

Any Ka-Bar product you get will not only delight you, it will serve you and you'll probably hand it down to your grandchildren.
