Does Anyone Need A $475 Boxcutter?

But ... but ... it still uses $9.⁹⁹ to $15.⁹⁹ per 100 heat treated Carbon V blades ...😳
"The blade makes the knife." Correct?

I may be wrong (or perhaps I'm just a cheap worthless/useless S.O.B./bast**d? 🤔😁), but $475 for a handle --- that don't even have a storage compartment for spare blades --- seems a wee bit excessive to me.

My Stanley 10-whatever has a locking blade, toolless blade replacement, ergonomic grip, and a storage compartment for up to ten blades.
Plus, the bright yellow paint job (factory) makes it a lot easier to spot if dropped or set down in a warehouse or other mostly gray location. Be horrible to drop that $475 handle or set it down somewhere and not be able to find it because the color blends in with the concrete floor, shelving ...

a lot of to and fro from the experienced members on whether this knife makes sense so juzt representing casual or duty users its the silliest thing I have ever seen. I mean seriously up there with $1000 ladies handbags.

Then I upgraded to the utilizer 2.0. Love it, but has a few quirks. Now I'm eyeing the shortcut. Oh gosh!
shortcut dropped, you guys snatched, yet so far no user experience reports, honest, detailed with photos or videos anywhere on the www?

and i had thought that the Utilizer 2.0 was the most stylish if not "the best" titanium folding box cutter (it isn't J jpb )!

all premium Ti box cutters and Bug-A-Salt undergo revisions. V1, V1.5, V2, V2.x, V3.0 , which is a good sign . l wouldn't be buying the V1 , why the hurry in snatching? we're not small kids anymore. let's wait and see how the shortcut develops (reminds me awfully of the wide-spread AliX item 1005004648285798), becoming maturer and improved. and widely adopted, a thorough success, the popular girl.

I'm guilty of liking and always preferring the popular girl💃, instead of the niche silent mouse 👧.

Never the best idea to buy the initial release version of a premium product. Marketing history has taught us. I learned the lesson. Not a kid anymore ("i want it, i want it, and i want it now, büüääähh!!👶").

I wish I would’ve bought a model A when I had the chance…. So maybe not the case with all initial releases.

Also, you don’t see any posts because none have shipped yet. The only ones out in the wild are the prototypes.

Would anyone here consider carrying a cheap box cutter as their only EDC? I'm guessing very few would, for varying reasons. For me, the deal killer for the box cutter is that it can't do anything which requires a good length-of-cut, e.g., slicing food, cutting rope, and many other things I rely on my knife to do.

The Shortcut, however, could certainly make a nice EDC for a knife enthusiast. Its functionality, ergonomics, aesthetics, and materials are all comparable to other $500 folders.

So rather than comparing the Shortcut to a cheap box cutter, I believe it more appropriate to compare it to a typical $500 folder.

Advantages:
* It can be used without concern for damaging the blade.
* It enables maintaining a razor-sharp blade with no need for any sharpening skills, nor need to spend any money on professional sharpening.
* It enables remedying a dull blade in seconds, in any environment, with no tools other than one little Torx driver.

Disadvantages:
* None that I can see.

When evaluated as a folding knife, I believe the Shortcut easily justifies its price. That it resembles a box cutter is, to my mind, irrelevant.

$475 for a box cutter? sounds like a government contract. Me
