does anyone not carry at all?

amg137 please start a savings plan to garner the money to buy a sense of humor. :p Also, I think you might take yourself much too seriously; a not uncommon trait in socal. mars51, I hope you realize I was just joking (well, maybe not about the naked part apparently )

I keep a BK2 and a Spydie Bill Moran in the car and I carry one or two every single day unless, of course, I have to fly to a godforsaken knife unfriendly place.

katanas, I hoped you were being facetious but you really never can tell on the internet... Some people really do believe that sort of thing. Also, I hear a sense of humor is quite expensive around here, I'm not sure I can afford it :p. And you're right about many of the people in socal, I avoid the natives as much as possible >.<. I live here by necessity - it's where I go for grad school and I hope to get out as soon as I've got my degree so I can move back to someplace with weather and unpopulated spaces. Although unfortunately most of my professional connections are around here so I'm afraid I won't be able to escape :grumpy:.

amg137, you are right about the internet, I've been taken wrong before (I'm an old fart and not great at the etiquette requirements on forums) Irvine is a nice place; I had an office there years ago, but you MUST escape before a permanent mental transformation takes place (think "invasion of the body snatchers") If, however, the option is a big city back east (NY!!!:barf:) stay where you are. And, by the way, EVERYTHING is expensive around there. ;) Back on topic, an EDC is not just for you but also for those who need one but are afraid to have one (like firearms, and I'm not referring to you).

Oh man, you couldn't pay me enough to get me to live in NYC. I've been there twice and it's literally my least favorite place on earth, and I've been all over the place! I make a point of escaping to a national park in the Sierras, Utah, or Arizona at least once a year to retain a little sanity and bushcrafting skill. Hopefully I'll be able to end up somewhere in the REAL west in a couple of years, but I'll probably have to just take whatever job I can get when the time comes.

Also back on topic: I've only been carrying a knife for a little over a year, but I've only forgotten to carry once and was deeply uncomfortable all day. Even though I rarely need one for anything other than opening packages and boxes, I feel compelled to have one on my person at all times. I don't think I could ever go back to no EDC knife.

I imagine you're in the minority with not edc'ing here. But the majority of the population does not carry at all. What state do you live in? knife laws are easy to look up.

I have carried at least one pocket knife on me since I was 10 years old. I also keep one in the glove box just in case

I think this question has some deep personal reflection. I was brought up in the country and find it absolutely normal to carry a knife. However I am a retired police officer and I couldn't tell you how long your blade can be here in Florida. Never had to think about it in my entire career. I carried, most everyone I knew carried, it was, well, normal. I was a LEO in my hometown. I've read the posts, many carry for protection, careful not to bring a knife to a gun fight. Most carry for basic utility needs, that's my group, and some carry because that's all they have ever known. You DO NOT have to edc to be welcome here, just have an understanding of who lurks around these parts. Lol. These people, I have found, are some of the best, and will help you in any way they can. As far as your thread, here is my thought. Do what feels right, be respectful and courteous, edc don't edc, but open your mind and learn from everyone hear. Enjoy the ride!

To the OP if your worried about losing a knife you can always get one that has a keyring or lanyard hole and add a lobster claw keyring so you can easily remove it from your keys when you need it. I've had a leatherman micra and victorinox rally on my keychain for around 8years like that and never had an issue. If you want a more full size knife a Wenger Patriot may fit the bill or several other knives out there including knives with a bail.

Was that "lol." aimed at me? The thread is titled "does anyone not carry at all?", posted on a forum about carrying knives. I believe my "lol" was not out of line. I'd be willing to guess 99.99% of all the people on here carry knives daily. No, it's not mandatory, but it is by far the norm. Not carrying would be the exception to the rule. Hence the "lol". Wasn't trying to be mean.... Snarky maybe. But it really did make me laugh.... Sorry!

since I got a SAK as a boy I always carried a knife... and a flashlight. Both are always on me and as others said, I really feel naked without them. Fortunately there is always at least one backup for each in my backpack. I even transfer them from the backpack to my pocket, should I have left the EDC (which only happens extremly rarely).

It's also kind of OCD. I always need to know that a knife or flashlight is available to fondle. Even at home wearing my house shorts you can rest assured that either a knife or flashlight is in my pocket. When in bed they sit on my nightstand.

Lucky for me the wife approves. Although she had to learn to ;)

The only time there's not a knife on my person is in the shower and when I'm sleeping, in which case it's on my nightstand next to me. As a matter of fact I'm on holiday right now and I just went swimming, a Spyderco H1 dragonfly was in my shorts.

I guess you could say I'm within 3 ft. of a quality blade at all times :D

Never quite understood the obsession for flashlights, but I guess that bug just hasn't hit me yet. I always have my phone and just use the LED's they use for the flash for the camera for a light with one of those light apps. It ain't pretty, but it works and it keeps what you carry down just a little bit more.

Never fully understood the whole pen obsession either but I just picked up a pen to EDC a Fisher Space Pen, a Stowaway and I am in love with how it writes and it adds no added bulk in my wallet and is always there. So now I am researching the next pen to use full time for school to pair up with my kuru toga mechanical pencil which I bought on a whim and loved the auto rotate mechanism. So far it's down to another Space Pen or perhaps a Lammy Safari fountain pen and possibly a few others. So I guess that bug has slightly bit me, but in truth I just want to find another pen that matches the kuru toga which has some weird magical ability to make my handwriting appear better.

As for always carrying a knife, I fully understand that as I always have a knife on me. It's my firm belief we can convert majority of the population to our way of thinking if we could get them to carry a knife for a few weeks and tell them to use it when it will make your life more convenient. Not everyone but a lot of people, a knife is just too dang handy in society nowadays with all those clamshell plastic packs and various other packages to open.

I'm really considering buying this one

It has a brightness of 0.2-246 lumens giving battery life from 1-720 hours. I've never known $66 flashlight to be that flexible and still highly rated.

Flashlights it seems has a competitive market size comparable to knives. Mag-lite, I now know, is nowhere near the top anymore.
Now I don't edc flashlights but having this in my car or pack would be awesome.

Yes it was, if you happen to be one of the "nicest people" , it was a compliment . I'm sorry if you took it differently sir. I'm from Florida were we wade fish and we have a saying, you never know what is lurking around in the water. If I offended you, my apologies

At the beginning of the year I had some major personal trauma going on with a girl I bought a house with (she left, I kept the house!) and I was so out of whack that I completely forgot my knife obsession. I didn't even know where my kives were, I stopped carrying and caring. A couple of months ago I started to recover and my knives found their way back into my pockets. Bought a new one last month, back on the forums.. sharpening and playing with my collection again and man it feels good. It's so much more than a tool for me, it's a passion and therefor part of my identity. So yeah, carrying every day again!!

Yea but buying a 4Sevens nowadays is like buying fenix nowadays. So ... mainstream. :) A nice custom McGizmo on the other hand :) How can you not EDC a flashlight??? :)
