Doesn't make sense to buy anything other than a cold steel?

Sorry the Taiwan made Cold Steel folders are generally lighter and more durable than original style Buck 110s, though the Micarta or G10 Buck 110s with premium blade steel may be a good competitor.
Absolutely. The brass and steel 110 would be too heavy for the OP's taste. I was thinking of one of the newer models with clips and thumb studs and micarta scales. I was too lazy to elaborate.

More durable, though? I beg to differ.

Yes, knives are almost always used for self defense alone. The facts are the facts. The number one most mass produced folding knife is clearly designed as a sentry removal tool. Ask anyone. Those sneaky snake-eating Swiss door kickers at Victorinox are not to be trifled with.

The whole idea is silly. I DO have knives that are geared toward SD. I do carry a knife on me at all times that can be used for SD. I believe that in a terrible and awful situation, a knife designed for SD can be a literal lifesaver. That said, the SD knife I carry generally collects dust in my back pocket. The 9mm on my belt and me not being what most would perceive to be a soft target is my first line of defense. 99.9999999% of what I have done with my EDC pocket knife is to open mail, cut boxes, cut open materials on a job site, etc. It hasn't always been with a slip joint but literally everything that I have cut with a folding knife in my adult life could have been handed with a SAK.

My late grandfather was a WWII vet who lived in a crappy part of town. Stood about 5'5 before age stooped him a couple inches and weighed in at maybe 135lbs. Every day of his life he carried a three blade stockman. Probably wasn't one of great quality and certainly wasn't new as he was a man of little means and not one to waste money on things he didn't find value in. He has a crappy little .22 revolver that was probably more likely to fall apart or misfire than actually hit anyone, but that's what he had handy when he opened the door at night.

Old sweetheart made it 92 without ever carrying anything that locked open, be it knife or slide on a gun.

Some live in a very tiny community.
Whatever you say dude.

Your weird, cult-like attitude toward knife purpose and design, and your rude, condescending replies to forum members is not appreciated here, that much I can assure you.

But by all means, please keep digging yourself into that hole.

I agree, If I carry a knife for self defense, I definitely use it for other purpose like cutting paper if a box cutting is not readily available. What I refer to is the ones actually carry EDC just to cut boxes, eating to justify carrying it.

I own over 20 pistols from big to tiny, I carried it for years. I just cannot think about what would I feel if I kill someone even with justifiable cause. So I stop carrying guns. That's just me. I was a very good shooter, been to competitions, won 2nd one time.

Instead, I always have pepper spray in left pocket, I practice stick fight using a crook cane for 3yrs and I carry one everywhere I go. The knife is only the 3rd option if I lost my cane( anyone say they can hold on to the stick no matter what is LYING). Then no choice but to pull out the knife.

Honesty is important. Nothing wrong to say "I just want to carry a knife because I am into it". Just don't make excuse of using it for eating, opening boxes and cut paper to justifying it. I even admit I like to carry knife, but my excuse is for SD.:p:D

Speak for yourself. I know this site is aiming at me already. So I am not going to engage that much on arguing. I might still have other questions.

No one is aiming at you. You aren’t special, and you aren’t being persecuted.

Your conduct in this thread and others is you “not engaging in arguing”?

😂🤣

Unless someone carry a gun, the knife is about the most effective self defense weapon that is legal to carry(with restrictions).

I know gun is more effective and is less of a crime when being caught. .....................
My first defense is pepper spray and my crook cane which I practice stick fight for almost 3yrs. The pocket folding knife is the back up if all else fails.

Wonderful contradiction you have there in the two above statements ^^^.

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've read on blade forums .............and that's REALLY saying something...........because I've read a lot of your posts.

Funny stuff.

Every now and then somebody comes in and takes a big dump in the forum...

People recognize it, but then stroll in to post how it smells like a big turd in here, eventually somebody steps in it and smears it into the next page...

Somebody else mouths off about how the aroma of poo really ain't that bad...

Pretty much nothing ensues.

You wouldn’t happen to be Barney Fife would you? Did you keep the bullet in your pocket?

There once was a deputy called Fife, who carried a gun and a knife. The gun was all dusty, the knife was all rusty, 'cause he never caught a crook in his life 😆 😂

ROTFL over here at the mall ninja link, had never seen that before, thank you!

Not to enter this fray mind you, just adding to the database of responses, lol. I have carried a firearm every day for the last 40 years including today.

I also carry a knife. To open shipping boxes full of ammo for the firearms. Therefore it is indeed a tactical tool of sorts. ;)

I stopped my ninja training many decades ago after nailing myself square in the jimmies whilst swinging some tactical nun-chuks. I may or may not still own some throwing stars, best not to mess with this ornery ol redneck. 🥷
