Doesn't make sense to buy anything other than a cold steel?

I received my Cold Steel SR1 light. It is strong and robust. But it is big and heavy. It's one thing to read the spec, it's another thing carrying in the pocket. I'd keep it as it's very good knife and cheap. But I think I stay with the Steel Will Warbot. I think it will go very far with Joe X's testing.

Wrong again. We have members from around the globe and all walks of life. I believe it is someone else in this thread who is out of step with "the rest of the world".
Whatever you said, knife community is very small, if I am not into analyzing the engineering of knife, I never even know there are forums around. I've been around all sorts of weapons in my life, never heard of knife communities.

I don't want to go much further on this. I went out with friends tonight, I asked them if they carry a knife, what is that for.......Self defense. All unison. Nobody think about cutting paper, eating.

Dude, if you ask a bunch of guys in a bar Dallas what their favorite football team, don't be surprised when they all say "The Cowboys". You and your friends all think alike? *GASP*!

Lots of people in this very thread have told you that self defense is not a primary, intended, or expected reason they carry a knife. Add another (me) to that list. You seem to think that everybody who doesn't agree with your point of view is lying about theirs.

never heard of knife communities.

Where the hell do you think you're posting?

I work in construction management, and for some strange CA reason am the only one that has a pocketknife. Folks are always asking for bladed assistance.

Whatever. No point of talking about this, let's go back to the topic of the thread.

I love this thread, 6 pages of troll food from one post from a troll that never came back so a different troll took over.
Classic.
It's a known MO, but the guy I'm thinking of always mentioned a specific TV show and didn't have the patience to let accounts age more than a minute. Also that guy had a lot more trouble with capitals and punctuation, so maybe he got a new keyboard? But it's been an interesting evolution.

Knife is tool to save my life in self defense and emergency. I just hope I carry my whole life and never have to use it.

Unless someone carry a gun, the knife is about the most effective self defense weapon that is legal to carry(with restrictions).

What utter nonsense.

Guess.

Say I've got a new 60lb protein tub. I can't get the lid off with my bare hands. I have 6 or 8 pry bars, but none of them will fit into the very tight space between the lid and the rim. But my knife will fit. Do I risk applying maybe 50lbs of lateral force against the blade? JoeX suggests that it would be safe. Turns out it is.

Some locks give when the blade is hit hard on the spine. Suppose I'm about to cut the twine off a bale of hay, and all of a sudden a 100lb lamb comes flying through the air and hits the spine with her very hard skull (this has actually happened). Will I lose a finger tip or two? JoeX doesn't say, but I've done some spine whack tests, and I think my fingers are probably safe. Turns out they are.
Okay so in extremely contrived scenarios (flying lambs?) Your prybar / knife will save you from egregious harm. Got it.

I'm trying to understand your passion for weak , inadequate , underperforming folders .

Did Lynn Thompson insult your knives ? Are your feelings hurt ? Please explain your emotional issues . 🥺

It's very common ,on this forum, for members to advocate fixed blades over folders for any serious use . Why do you suppose this is ?

I'd say , because the average folder leaves much to be desired for any "hard use" application .

But many buyers simply want a folder to carry, and either can not, or just will not, carry a fixed blade .

They desire the strongest , most reliable folder possible , for adverse eventualities.

So this leaves a POU market for the "hard use folder ". Like it or not ! ☺️

If you have a problem with this , IMO it's your problem . The BS is all yours !
Self-defence isn’t even hard use. It takes FAR less force to poke a guy in the stomach or cut his arm through his leather jacket than it does to laterally pry something with a knife. This whole argument is silly as hell. Knives are for cutting, pry bars are for prying, screwdrivers are for turning screws, etc.

Knives make awful weapons unless they are big enough that you wouldn’t have the thing on you in day-to-day life anyway. Unless you’re CM.

Man this type of thread really brings the loonies out of the woodwork.

I think this is a very small community where everyone think the same way, not align with the rest of the world.

I know gun is more effective and is less of a crime when being caught. I am very good with guns and was in competition and did gun smithing. It's NOT the effectiveness of guns, it's more about I DON'T WANT TO JUST KILL SOMEONE.

I conceal carry guns for 10+yrs and I have 20+handguns. I decided not to because I cannot answer how would I feel taking another person's life. I stopped carrying gun. My first defense is pepper spray and my crook cane which I practice stick fight for almost 3yrs. The pocket folding knife is the back up if all else fails.

This is comedy.

That was uncalled for. You are the one coming across with the hurt feelings, like some one kicked your dog and you have no answer.

Sorry. With all the back and forth, I just picked yours. Sometimes you need a score card to keep track. Also, I'm a little new here and it will be a while before I get to know who's who.
No worries! You helped me reiterate my point.

What you planning to do with the knife? Waive it around at them?

I stopped carrying gun.
So you aren't really serious about self defense. Got it.

I still drive my good old Saturn! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You have a good mechanic and you probably cross rivers on bridges . Try to cross a river where there is no bridge or drive to the top of a mountain :) You'll see if you will drive it for a long time ..then even a best *lock* opps .......I mean mechanic doesn't help

In many states, using a knife against someone who is unarmed will get you arrested…..
