Dogs and traditional knives

Sad day today. We had to put down Gandalf, who'd been with us for more than 15 years.
Here's the last photo I have of him, sleeping on the bench by the kitchen table with Rusty a week ago. Rusty (brown) is in the foreground, Gandalf (black) is farther back. Rusty has been with us only a couple of weeks (and I'm not clear on the official ownership situation).

Gandalf was having lots of health issues the past couple of years, but he just "played the cards he was dealt" and was happy almost all the time. Best dog I ever had.

Here's a photo of Gandalf last December, with only one eye and basically deaf and unable to go on walks more than a mile on his own 4 feet anymore. Sometimes I'd take him with me for a longer walk in that bag.

Here's a photoshop of Gandalf dressing up like his namesake a couple of years ago:

Oops! Dogs AND Knives. Here's Gandalf on his 14th birthday in November of 2024:

RIP, Gander!

Oh man 🙁🙁
That's really sad news Gary.

I'm so sorry that you had to help your beautiful friend over the line, I feel for you!

Hope Rusty is coping without his friend.

So very sorry for your loss, Gary! Dogs just bond at such a deep level... and they don't live long enough in my view. May Rusty bring you as much joy, for at least as many years. Never replacing, just another in the pack.

I so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you and Gandalf had each other.
Sad day indeed GT
But we don’t want them to suffer. It was a year last month we had to put Buddy down, he was 14.
Great pictures to remember by.
Sorry for your loss, Gary. Gandalf looks like a good old soul.
Smoke sent…

Here’s Mystro, also 16 years. Still wants to go but is slowing down, just like me.

Sorry for your loss Gary. Every time I learn of a dog's death, I am overcome with anxiety. What would i do without my best friend ? His name is Skosad. View attachment 3186734

I (and my wife) appreciate the sympathy you all expressed concerning Gandalf's death.
I hope those of you who currently have pets will have many years to enjoy with them!:thumbsup:
