Don Hanson: "Blues' Pattern" Trapper

Okay, now I remember. Geez, that was, like, 24+ years ago. You old coots around here make me feel so . . . old. ;)

For some reason, I was thinking Monty Python, something like Disintegrata.

Anyway, back to that purty knife - the scale on the shield side has a . . . vein? Groove? running down the length of it; I assume that's natural. It's an interesting detail that's kind of cool. The scale on the other side has the same thing, with a 'course change' toward the end. Was that left in intentionally?

The entire piece is stunning, but that element really stood out to me for some reason.

thx - cpr

cpr, the grooves (dark areas) in the stag are all natural. The light areas are where I ground down and polished the scales to fit the knife, or better, to fit the hand :)

Thanks all,

Thanks all,

Not to blow too much smoke up Don's kilt, but I've got to say that this knife does in fact feel exceptionally good in hand. Some of it has to do with the characteristics of this particular stag (as each set has different attributes in terms of texture and feel) but the way it is radiused and balanced just makes you want to pick it up and hold it in your hand constantly. (And I seem to give in to that urge quite a bit.)

BTW, just so you know that I'm a square shooter...even though I am extremely pleased with this knife, I did discuss with Don on the phone the little things where I think there is/was room for improvement. Like any great maker, Don knows that he's yet to produce a "perfect" knife and welcomes honest feedback. Frankly, I just love the character that Don built into this knife.

A perfect knife has no character but I built some into this one :D

Seriously, I've never built a perfect knife and probably never will...

Thanks Elliott!
