Done with Strider

Ive never been a Strider fan boy, but have owned a couple of his folders. I will admit that I recently purchased an all black Performance SMF and I really like it compared to the others Ive owned. Yes it was too expensive but the quality is definitely a lot better. I still like my Hinderers and all the others though.

^ I can never warm up to that styling in any way ; the only thing i like a little is the pivot .

I've appreciated the former's work.

To wit:

MKT=

Freedom of Speech
(You have the right to disagree)

High quality knives
(It leads to counterfeits)

You wouldn't ever turn one down if it were free or gifted to you.
(Well done counterfeits are truly obvious)
I'd accept it gladly, and sell it even more gladly, 14 0z for a folder? Nope, if I wanted to put two rebar pieces glued together in my pocket I would have, besides his knives cost a set of 4 tires

Who invented this? I would put the large SHF above hinderer any day.

It's from before knife Instagrams, when those were the three status symbols everyone oohed and awwed over on the knife forums. Strider got a spot for being early to recognize people would pay $400+ for pocket jewelry (the quality wasn't that great, even then) and Hinderer was a grail because his production was limited and you either had to be an EMT or pay a $200 markup on secondary. CRK was the one that got recognized for quality alone, ironically at that time they were the most readily available and there was no 6 year wait or secondary markup.

I'm probably going to get slapped for this by the fan boys, but Microtech could be considered for the unholy...Past QC/Warranty/Communication issues, copying designs, now outsourcing to China (at least they are honest about it).

Agree with this 100%. Similarly to Strider, he makes "customs" that are really just production knives dressed up a little and marked up thousands. He has a history of producing blatant knockoffs, often of smaller makers who couldn't do anything about it. But the most known case was when he copied ZT to make the Matrix, and then came up with a ridiculous story about how KAI told him to do it as a challenge. He also has a history of harassing people with frivolous lawsuits, even his own family. And more recently, he started threatening dealers who carry Axial knives because he realized they make a more competitive product.

It's like getting extra recoil and an extra front sight with your pistol.

Like a generic Glock-off with two front sights and two rear notches, you know, binocular vision, binocular sighting, it's a treat

Owned a protech strider once, seemed well built, handle was lame
Don't remember what I did with it

striders are made by military veterans so its quality stuff probably just got a lemon so should send it in for warranty they will make it right

When I first joined, Hinderer hadn't become part of the conversation yet. I remember when he had this ridiculous policy about only selling directly to active duty and LEOs, so normal people couldn't buy them at MSRP. It created insane secondary market prices and hysteria. It was hilarious.

But I ended up buying both the Sebenza and the SnG because they were considered the highest end production knives you could buy on the forums, and Bladeforums was pretty much the only authority back then. The Sebenza exceeded my expectations and was absolutely as good as everyone said it was. The SnG was a joke in comparison. It was so overpriced and poorly built. I sold it immediately. Current Striders look like they have better build quality than the early 2000s model I had, but I never bought another after witnessing the audacity they had to price that knife at the same level as a Sebenza.

No, they are not made by veterans. False veterans perhaps. Do some research on ole Mick.

Don't take the bait
Yeah, you're right, it's already been discussed.

I own, have owned, and have handled so many knives in and below the price range of an SnG that absolutely blow it out of the water. Most don't have a ton of choils.

They need to change the name to SN&G--Stolen Notoriety and Glory.

Agreed. So many great choices for the same money or less.
