Don't fear the hipster

I thought all of the hipsters (those who bother) were buying traditionals. Fits the genre.

If the other hipsters are carrying traditionals, then you can prove what a nonconformist you are by carrying something Ramboesque. :)

I welcome the hipster folk to our hobby. Plenty of room for everyone.

I don't understand why people get so shocked that "Anyone" would carry a knife...one of mans oldest tools! I don't care what segment of society you are from. People act like city, rural, or country folk are like aliens from another planet if someone doesn't fit their same demographic.

I do get that we have different tastes as far as the final product, I mean most city folk aren't probably going to be batonning  or making feathersticks with their knives, while country folk aren't likely to open nearly as many letters or cardboard boxes of mustache wax. Still I can see everyone needing a knife at some point throughout the week for some task.

I don't care who carries what, I also don't care what variety of knives makers choose as long as they keep innovating and making stuff that appeals to me. I like having options and that means rugged as well as attractive knives.

The title of this thread could easily be weird Al's next big hit, as long as B.O.C gives his permission 😁
"C'mon baby don't fear the hipster "

Eco friendly knives
Durable development knives

Victorinox has lots of green values you can read about in their website.

Also vintage knives! Not only do you save environment by buying old knife, but you get the cool knives that are out of production so that you can feel special! :D But naturally, you have to find these from local sales because sending it in envelope is not environment friendly. :)

There's always bicycle currier, then your feeding your passion and a hipster. :)

Let's at least be honest.

For many (even here) a knife is little more than a fashion accessory and/or a fashion statement.

I hope anyone who needs a good knife will find one, whatever their needs or who they are, but if it is only to show off or part of a fad that is "hip" or "cool" at the moment, then I think it is another shot in the arm to the cheapo copy cats that already show up everywhere. Fads come and go, but a basic tool to meet basic needs never goes out of style. Correct me if I am wrong, but is wearing a knit cap in the middle of summer a good thing, is that part of the hipster thing? If it is to keep the hair from getting tangled in machinery at work or hair out of my food, that is a good thing, but if not, get a haircut and wash your hair with some kind of green shampoo. And what about sandals in winter? Is this hipster thing a lifestyle or a fad? (Probably another thread discussion on the whole hipster thing/suburban lumberjack). I see the hipster using a kind of knife that is from a different part of the world, unique in line with fair trade. :D.d

Exactly. Shouldn't we be happy whenever anyone anywhere regardless of their social styles/ background sees the usefulness in carrying a pocket knife? And you can always berate the pretentious ones in whine and cheese. It seems like a win win to me.
I mean I don't exactly agree with the huge Instagram culture coming up with the latest and greatest anodized pocket bricks, but at least they're carrying something. And their children will grow up around knives further promoting the use of a timeless tool.

Does that mean knives are going to come with beards, flannels, and stupid oversized glasses?? Buy a pair of wedge sole boots (that will never get dirty) and you get a free knife??

Showed some hipsters at my hipster barbershop two knives I had on me; my BM 760 LFTi and I had my Mercator K55K that was my in my jacket pocket. The consensus was that the cat knife was much cooler in their opinion. My barber who carries an SOG liked the Lum tanto.

Maybe they clip the knife to the tie they "ironically" wear underneath their sweater vest or it's clipped to the thick framed glasses with no lenses. It's hard to stop pointing and laughing long enough to see.
