Doug Ritter Grip

I wouldn't say that's impossible, but it appears unlikely.

I really hate to hear that. I like the blade design considerably better than the current griptilian offerings.

Okay, I bought one and used it over the weekend on chores around the house. Excellent little knife. It came flawless out of the box with an extremely sharp edge. The action was actually smoother than some of my other Axis lock knives. The blade geometry works well for almost all knife chores that I'd use a folder for. I normally carry nothing but Sebenzas, but this RitterGrip is now a part of my EDC rotation. Good job! :)

I get more pleasure out of this knife than many others, and the more I use it, the more I like it! My Axis is like butter, it slides so smooth, but locks up like a vault. I've showed it to many friends who lust after the Sebenza but can't make the leap, and a few of them plan on ordering one. After all the use of it, I just do a light strop every once in a while, and it still shaves hair.

How many are available?

I am recommending these to the UK Bushcraft crowd, but I think I really need to pick one up and try it out! :p

The General - Yes, get one and give it a try. I have always liked the Griptilian, but this is a step up. This just might be the best folder for the money going right now.

Doug - any thought to a red-handled version (for those complaining that the handle doesn't stand out well enough)? They already make a full size grip handle in red for the trainer... For a survival type knife - I would rather have the bright easy to see/find when dropped red. But I did buy one anyway :D

I believe Doug also mentioned it was a cost issue. Sticking with basic black kept the cost down. If this knife sells well, I expect to see other handle colors and mini versions in the future. It would be a quick fix to put a blaze orange lanyard on it though.

With knives I prefer a darker handle, if visibility is an issue a bright cord/lanyard works fine. I actually prefer the OD handle as on the Grip I bought from Cabella's. Add a wrist lanyard in red para-cord and it's fairly visible; switch to OD para-cord and it's subdued. I can see the dayglow colors being a big issue with professional SAR types, but for the rest of us (at least me) bright colors are a negative.

Sting,

We have considered the red handle. There are two significant issues. One, the red handle has come to mean a trainer among tactical users, as you note. The obvious danger is that someone might accidentally grab the wrong knife. Two, there's the strength issue. The glass-filled Noryl GTX is extremely strong and rigid and abuse resistant. This allows for the use of the AXIS Lock "cartridge" liners instead of full liners, with obvious benefits. The down side I am told is that it doesn't accommodate the bright dyes needed to color it. On the other side of the issue, the Valox used for the brightly colored knives is not glass-reinforced. Very durable, but not nearly as rigid. This is acceptable for a trainer, but it isn't adequate for real-world use and abuse. On the Mini-Grip this isn't an issue because it has full liners (while not identical, note that the full liners of the Mini-Grip are about the size of the cartridge on the full-sized Grip). So, any lack of rigidity is made up for by those liners. Bottom line, don't expect a colored full-size RSK in the near future, sorry. As some here have noted, a bright lanyard or braided fob is one solution.

I didn't realize the limitations with Valox... interesting. Well - I got my RSK today - great knife. Good job!

I really like my RSK - and I've got my fingers crossed that there will one day be a Mini Doug Grip!

Happy to hear you're liking the RSK Mk1. We continue to discuss a Mini-RSK, don't give up hope. :D Since you bring up the subject, let me ask everyone here:

1. How many would be interested in a Mini-RSK, assuming the price would be not significantly less than the current price, but for sure less than $100 for the standard un-numbered model? (You'll note that typical street price differential is between 7-10 dollars for the current Benchmade Grip/Mini-Grip which is a reflection of the very small difference in wholesale cost between the two, just not much difference in manufacturing cost.)

2. How many would be interested in a Mini-RSK with a Yellow handle?

Thanks for your feedback on this.

Doug

I wouldd certainly snap up a mini RSK at a 90 or so pricepoint - but i think you should offer the range of handles if possible (they are all the same and benchmade should have plenty on hand right?) I have a feeling black and OD would be the biggest sellers. I would probably buy the lime green one.

Doug - I would be interested in a mini-grip. Yellow would be fine, but my first choice would be blue.
