So it sounds as if they may at least entertain the notion of granting requested numbers.

I would hope that, since we were told that the early bird gets the worm (early serial numbers) that they'd only change your number if you ask for a higher number than you were set to recieve. I'd actually be a little ticked if all the early numbers were requested and I got bumped to something in the mid-40s. I ordered the day they came out--heck the first half-hour they came out. I've waited as long as anyone on this knife. I don't deserve getting bumped by someone who ordered last week. If I wind up with a high number, I might just send the thing back. At the least, Roger will get an earful.

Roger is in charge of this sort of thing. I just design the damn things--and sometimes wonder why. :grumpy: Roger's always been more than fair and reasonable. If you have any concerns or questions, I suggest you call him: 1-888-225-9775

Doug, I'm not trying to add more frustration to what has already been a frustrating process for you. I was just saying that I don't like being told one thing and then have something else happen.

When KnifeWorks cancelled the wrong pre-order for me (I was trying to cancel my DPx HEST/F pre-order during all the RYP craziness), I got the impression from them that my place in line mattered as far as serial number, and so I was adamant about getting my old order number back. You recently supported that notion with this post:

One thing ordering early will guarantee--a low serial number.

Don't worry. I already contacted Roger for clarification.

In response to a few questions I have been asked:

The included Grivory handles weigh 73 g (2.5 oz)
The KA-BAR Micarta handles weigh 87 g (3.1 oz)
The brass tapered plugs weight 11g (0.4 oz) total

You can do the math, I'm sure.

The Micarta handles fit fine without the plugs installed. http://www.dougritter.com/pp/pic3022.htm

You may want to spend a bit of time with some sandpaper for a really perfect fit to the tang.

If for some reason you want to keep the plugs with the Micarta, you'll need to drill the handles. Depending upon how they are installed, which is done manually and subject to variation, the plugs may or may not extend through the tang. No, I have not done so and have no plans to do so. Let me know how that goes. ;)

Hope this answer everyone's questions.

Just for the record, Roger basically confirmed the above. They won't assign you a number lower than your place in line. Also, some of the very first numbers are taken already by Doug.
As Roger put it, "if you're the 4th person that ordered and you want number 9, you can have it, but if you're the 23rd and you want number 9, then it will not be available because we will give these out in order they came in."
I also found out that my order was the very first in line. I could have gone even lower (and would have if #1 had been available), but I did ask for #9 because of my Beckerhead number. My choice will actually open lower slots to the first few early birds.

Looking at the specs again, the steel is detailed as 1095. Is it 1095 with Cro-Van or standard 1095?

It is 1095 with Rowen's proprietary heat treat. Identical to the ESSE knives that Rowen makes.

Soooooo... we're coming to the end of March, any chance of this baby making it out this month?

Fingers crossed, breath held, cheeks clenched...:D

If you post up on Friday that you've changed your mind and are cancelling all the orders I will not be amused. :D

So you're saying there's a chance then ;)

But I forgot about April Fools day though, now I'm nervous :p
