"The DPx HEST Folder is designed and made for hard use in hostile conditions with the ESEE no questions asked, lifetime warranty to registered owners."
It's even written in the 2nd picture on the 1st page of this thread.

Again, the warranty has NOT been comepletely decided on since we have not received prototypes for testing. We are also merging this with the thread that everyone posted their ideas on.
Back on 8-510 this is what R.A.T said in the warranty thread...Mind you know this is after the presale

Personally I think our warranty has to be better than the average warranty. I think it needs to be lifetime and transferable from user to user without any need of a sales receipt or paperwork. Mainly, we want to build a trust with the end-user to know that even if something is not stated in the warranty, if you're honorable then we're going to take care of you. Trust me, this is all new ground to us because we have never made a folder before so we are relying hevaily on the community to guide us. Sure, we could simply charge twice the price and warranty it without question but it is my opinion that most users would rather pay half the price for the same quality and accept that a folder is breakable and will wear out over time.
So, what's your point? We are still going to take feedback from the members here when we write the finished warranty. Not to mention, also help a user out if something is not covered under the written warranty. It's just our way of doing things and always has been. So, I'm really not sure what your gripe is at this stage? Because we haven't written the warranty yet? I guess if you feel you got jipped somehow then you can cancel your order or get your money back (if you have paid).
There is no doubt the folder will have a lifetime warranty but we have NOT decided what all that covers when it comes to wear in the lock system. Again, we have to simply do some testing before we write the completed warranty.
Out of curiosity, how do you perform your endurance tests? I'm interested in the lock specifically. How do you replicate the thousands of cycles that a folder will go through? (Open, close, open, close etc.) I know that many fatigue tests go on for months if not years of continuous cycles. I'm curious as to how you come to your conclusions in such a short amount of time (relatively speaking).
Just so you know I have 2 of the knives coming...1 is from dpx the other is from Dale....I now realize there are 2 different knives....I guess if you think about it there are 3
I will enjoy both of them,,Can't wait to replace this 5 year old sog...
Its good to get this stuff out in the open....Thanks for your update and info I really was not thinking about esse and dpx being 2 different companys My Bad....... Thank you again for the info....
No need to apologize. All is wellAs far as I know there will not be two different warranties unless Pelton says otherwise. What I was referring to was the page you pulled up was from DPx, and I was merely saying that DPx (Pelton) was talking about doing a user registration thing but we (ESEE) are not going to be doing that. This has all been pretty confusing and for that I apologize. We are getting dealers calling here every day wanting to know why they are not getting Limited Edition versions and we have to tell them it is because ESEE is not selling Limited Edition versions, only DPx is. We had a dealer contact us yesterday saying that someone in Australia wanted a "sterile" version and we told them we had nothing to do with any sterile version and that they needed to contact DPx. ALL knives that ship from ESEE to the dealers will be exactly the same except for left hand or right hand. So, unless you buy your knife directly from DPx web site, then you will be getting the same knife no matter the dealer you go to. Robert is throwing in some extras on the limited versions but we (ESEE) have nothing to do with any of that. Again, I apologize for the confusion, we could have structured this way better than we did.
Not trying to add any fuel to the fire just a heads up. Many of your dealers have this (copy/pasted from a dealers website) attached to the pre-order for the regular HEST folder:
The DPx HEST Folder is designed and made for hard use in hostile conditions with the ESEE no questions asked, lifetime warranty to registered owners.
Until you decide exactly what this warranty is going to look like you may need to have them pull this from their pre-order pages.
Just a thought trying to look out for a great company.
Funny you should mention that. I was just talking to Shon Rowen yesterday about helping us come up with a machine that does just that for use on soem future folder projects we have coming up. It should be pretty simple to do but I realize we will not be able to do long-term testing on the HEST folder before we write the warranty. What we do plan to do is put the lock through some hard stresses over a shorter period to see how it holds up. I've used enough folders and locks and tested enough to see if this lock from Lion is going to be "Sbenza" quality or gas station quality. No way, at this time, to tell what will happen in the long haul but short-term testing will tell us a lot. In the end, NO lock will last forever and not wear out because it's simple friciton and physics that will finally get it, but if we can be better than most then we're happy.
By the way, will the data from the tests be public or for ESEE's eyes only?![]()
I'd be interested to see the results.
Would rather not do that publicly since we intend to break the knives and wear the hell out of the lock. Any public video will have people thinking they can actually do that to the knife.
