Press Release on the H.E.S.T.
“Robert Young Pelton is the man most people think they are after slamming two tequilas”– Tim Cahill
While TV hosts pretend to survive, Robert Young Pelton not only created the trend with his groundbreaking series, The World's Most Dangerous Places, but he also survived 36 wars, over 120 countries and numerous brushes with death. His forays into the world’s most dangerous places and conflicts such as the siege of Grozny in Chechnya, the battle of Qala-I-Jangi in Afghanistan, the rebel campaign to take Monrovia in Liberia and even being kidnapped by death squads in Colombia have made front page news. He has been with the CIA during the hunt for Bin Laden, and spent time with both insurgents and Blackwater security contractors during the war in Iraq. Most recently he has returned from Somalia and the hunt for pirates. Pelton's books The World's Most Dangerous Places and Come Back Alive provide practical and survival information for people who work and travel in high risk zones. His latest book, Licensed to Kill is the result of three years on the ground with contractors and mercenaries in the War on Terror.
Pelton comments, "The DPx Hostile Environment Survival Tool or HEST by RAT Cutlery is the knife I wish I had carried with me, and the knife I will carry with me thanks to Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin of RAT Cutlery Company. Its everything the serious adventurer needs in a constant carry/concealable weapon."
Although Pelton has survived SCUD blasts, terrorist bombs, AKs and even kidnapping he knows that in back alleys or remote jungles a knife is not only a confidence builder but a critical tool for comfort and survival. Pelton has made the DPx HEST the ultimate companion. "It has a big meaty handle outline without adding weight. The HEST carries enough to provide a non lethal deterrent in close quarters and an all out weapon once you get your hand inside the perfectly curved handle. For remote needs there are two lashing points (vertical and horizontal) to turn your HEST into a spearpoint, booby trap or even deadfall."
"I don't encourage lethal use of knives in hostile environment or I would have to print a lawyers name on each knife," Pelton jokes. "But late at night when you get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, the DPx HEST is a tool that will come in handy."
"The knife is designed for travel and constant carry so I reduced the profile and signature while maintaining the strength, heft and results from much larger heavier knives. I also kept the price point low enough so you can present your HEST to a warlord, local VIP or your kidnappers."
The initial release of the DPx HEST comes with Micarta handle slabs with easy-remove screws so you can store cash or small survival tools in between. Additional upgrades to the knife will be available after its initial release and will feature a secret hollow capsule for money, matches or tinder. The capsule snaps in to place and can be wrapped with the supplied orange or black paracord. Key tools featured on the knife are a wire breaker, mini pry bar, partially blade serrations, and the most important tool of all: a bottle opener are all built into the knife. The HEST comes with Kydex sheathing.
