got my production model in the mail today. very nice fit and finish is good, the tip is down where it should be and the lock is strong. kind of funny but i can see where the factory did exactly the same thing i did and sanded a bit on the blade where it hits the stop pin.

take it easy

I am pretty sure Gianni would want a look at that and get it back to you. That's his favorite knife!

Sorry, bud, but seeing as he's Italian, I'd be willing to bet that there's a Randall out there somewhere that's his favorite knife.

Has anyone had an issue with the blade being so close to the edge when the H.E.S.T. folder is closed? I know a few posters mentioned that they could touch the blade if inserting a finger.

RYP, I think you mentioned that there may be a few design changes for the next production run. Can you elaborate on what some may be?

I've got a production HEST/F in front of me now, and unless I squeeze the tip of my finger in there, I can't touch the blade when it's closed.

I'd like to know what if any changes there will be on any further runs also.

We will announce any changes when we spec the next run. We are still enjoying the feedback and suggestions of customers who are just getting the HEST/F into their hands.

I just received one of Jeff's HEST folders today. It's like a whole different knife from the one I bought. It looks identical, but this one operates smoothly, locks and unlocks well, and came shaving sharp. Nice.

I have been impressed with all 5 of the production models I received. And I bought these from a dealer, so nothing was specially pulled or anything like that. I'm also impressed with the prototype of the HEST folder that I've had for some time now. Anyway, I've already gifted 3 of the HEST folders to cop friends of mine and they're putting them to use now. So far I have received nothing but good feedback from them.

When I started hearing from other users that their HEST folders worked just fine, I knew I had an unusually rough one. Just the luck of the draw.

I just got my regular production a few minutes ago, even with a tight pivot,no problem opening .The knife seems well built ,tip is not exposed and the roto lock functions freely.I will probably tighten the pocket clip[my preference].
Now Ryp just needs to make one with a 3.5" blade.

Horndog...the only luck you have is good luck cuz you have a no questions asked lifetime warranty. Let's get that knife back in the shop and a replacement one coming back your way. I am playing with yet another production HEST Folder and its smooth as silk, strong lockup and flawless finish. I will send you mine. You deserve a perfect HEST.

I have one I am borrowing from Jeff that is just fine, RYP. But I would love to have that perfect HEST! Then I can send Jeff's back. Great! :D

I just checked. My HEST was delivered to DPx in Fallbrook, CA yesterday.

I am grieved to report that my production version, while the lockup at first appeared rock solid, has suddenly developed lock failure.

That's not my video, but it's the exact same problem.

It's really very odd, and quite upsetting. I like it a lot and don't want to be without it. :(

Joben,

I have a sterile LE and this is not a problem for me. I am curious, does it do it when the rotolock is on? I would think the obvious answer is no but I would like to make sure.

Thanks,

Whitty

With the rotoblock on it's reduced to slight vertical blade play.

Mine actually isn't quite as bad as that video. It slips part way to the side with very light pressure, and disengages if i push hard. I'll shoot quick a video of mine tomorrow.
