Drop Forged Knives

I THINK stainless would be better for boot knife, carbon steel is obviously better choice for camping-hunting-wood pricessing blade.Boot knife-dagger has one purpose, and can do some minor cutting based on dagger style blade and for that purpose is excellent and also stays close to body and it sweat will make carbon steel rust really easily.

Maintenance is key! With any knife to work well PERIOD. I'm a fan of patina, personally I hope they stick with 52100, it is an excellent steel. Guys that have problems with rust just need to rub a bit of wax/grease/oil into their knives-problem solved. In a pinch even the natural oil on your forehead will work on small blades; I use it on my Opinel all the time.

These knives are a great value for the money! The only thing I wish Cold Steel would change is the selection, I want a wasp shaped dagger with a nice coffin handle among other patterns I certainly wouldn't mind a Karambit or Kirpan either. Even a dive knife with a wide besh chisel tip would end up in my collection if they put one out.

These things are SWEET! I have no complaints. The balance points are perfect IMHO the only thing they could do to make these better is ditching secure-ex in favor of slim kydex and offering them without the coating.

Just my 2 cents

I wet formed some leather to the sheath on my boot knife for more comfort when its against my skin, it holds moisture yet I've had ZERO issues with rust, if your knives rust its because you're not taking care of them.
I imagine the added toughness of carbon steel will also help keep the tip from snapping off when I put it to through some tougher tasks.

Ive seen some carbon that picks up rust from sweat in couple hours in pocket,i dont want to oil the blade and keep it close to my skin, but everything is preference. If you plan to stab someone in armor maybe then its better to have tougher carbon steel blade, but for basic use stainless is plenty strong.

Define 'armor,' pls?

Are you talking a breast plate or modern day kevlar etc?

Chainmail vest or something similar, for kevlar stainless is plenty good and for steel plate you need something else lol.

I like the edge retention and toughness that 52100 offers why mess with a good thing. Have you tried giving your knife a patina or browning/bluing it? There are also food safe waxes that will keep it from rusting and are easy to rub in.

I'd love some of these in a good stainless.

I do not want to bother with oil or stainless on a dagger boot knife that serves one purpose, this is dagger grind but can be used for minor cutting so stainless is plenty tough.

Cold steel is my favorite company btw, less expensive knives and designs are awesome,I wish they would bring some of their old knives in same ateel and design but anyways theyre one of best if not the best for production afordable knives.

 You guys is NEVER satisfied ! You probably demand egg in your beer . ;)

There are shittons of china stainless cheap but OK knives readily available in every shape and form .

The whole value of the CS Drop Forged 52100 lineup is the uber toughness at a bargain price . Not easy to match if you demand stainless as well . Got to sacrifice either price point or toughness . Can't have everything , except in our dreams .

Drop Forged Knives are fine with me as is. If I could change anything about them it would be a better coating. Black would be nice like the Drop Forged Hunter. DLC would be even better and I suspect many would be willing to pay a little more for this feature. But even with the silver finish they are an incredible value.

You guys get it, I really wouldn't mind if they were left unfinished and shipped to me in cardboard slips!
These knives are an incredible value and I LOVE patina, I have no doubt they will be sought after in years to come!

Im getting boot knife too, push dagger is awesome but its illegal where i live. Will be putting patina on it as the oil is out of question.

Coffin handled variants would be a really cool, every time I handle my boot knife I long for a coffin shaped handle. Or coke bottle with a longer blade.
Really starting to think I need a drop forged SRK as well, all the options ahaha, I'm gonna collect every one they put out

Speaking of coffin shaped handles, imagine how cool it would be if they made a Drop Forged Laredo Bowie? Ten and a half inch full flat ground blade with sharpened clip just like the original. The handle would need a trough in the center to keep the weight down and a smaller guard, like that on the Survivalist, but I think it would be manageable.
