Dual Survival

The first episode was well done, using a common sense approach to survival. Each of the "opposing" viewpoints were explained well.

I thought the shelter was the most interesting part of the show. Can't wait to give that a try.

Pretty good show. I like the contrast in their styles.

Dave seemed kind of like a jerk to Cody at first - wonder if that was for the show or if he really didn't take him seriously?

Cody is definitely the man, barefoot and shorts in that environment.

Watched plenty of Dave on youtube. First I've seen Cody. I'd consider myself lucky to be stuck i9n the woods with either of them. Wish the best for both of them.

Think they added a bit of drama to it, but, it's TV. What can you do?

I got to meet Dave last weekend... seems like a cool guy.

at first there seemed like a bit of tension until cody made that shelter whitch was 70 degrees inside!!!!!! dave looked really impressed. any one know what knife they were useing?

not too sure, but i'm going to guess blind horse knife pathfinder cause thats the knife he designed with bhk

Greay first episode!! ot only fun to watch but they really play off their different styles

They showed fairly well how to work as a team.

I like any survival type show. I'll always learn something.

Interesting to see it has the same disclaimer as Man vs. Wild; especially that Dave and Cody are "presented" situations so they can show survival techniques. I think Dave went out with his torch at night, because it makes for a good "shot" and it created a difference in opinion between the two.

Les Stroud disciples won't like that they have a camera crew along,(at least that's what they keep bringing up about other shows), but I think the show is good.

I think the show tries to create drama and tension where there isn't any, through editing. I think they get along quite well.

BTW, love the knife.

Yep, I really enjoyed the show, but I am going to be the odd man out. There is no way to justify going barefooted in 10 degree weather. ONLY if you are guaranteed a ride outta there if you have trouble. And YES, people back in the day probably did have healthier feet when they didn't wear shoes. They also didn't live much past 25-30 yrs. 99.9 percent of your foot problems don't show up until after that age.

Anyway, that is just my .02, and I do enjoy the survival shows.

I really liked the show. I thought the shelter was amazing. Always carry a couple space blankets, but havn't used one since Boy Scouts. Gonna have to try that shelter out. I also thought that running down the porcupine was interesting, and good tv. I liked that the knife was showcased as a useful tool and not used Bear style. Will definitely watch future episodes.

So I just checked my discovery channel and apparently they don't air the show in Denmark :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

And I was really looking forward to this show.

Hawkings if you go to the Discovery Channel website you can view most of the show, at least the highlights...

I liked the first episode. Thought the whole thing rather realistic and the friction between the two "experts" expected and normal. I liked the shelter. Made a lot of sense to me. Never really thought it necessarily a good thing to have one entire side of a shelter open to the outside air. I do understand the reasons why they are done this way. Making a stove of sort would be a very practical way of heating the shelter.

My impression was that the military guy went out at night because he knew he was in no real danger and he thought he was looking bad compared to the hippie. After whining all day about the guy's bare feet, he had accomplished almost nothing, while the other guy had built an excellent shelter and brought in at least something to eat.

They are, of course, playing up the conflict between the two guys, in standard reality show fashion. I don't know how well that will hold up over time. I hadn't realized that they would be rescued at the end of the first show. I thought it was going to be an ongoing situation. If they keep dropping the same two guys into different environments, I can see it getting old pretty quickly.

I liked the first episode. I think the contrast in styles will make the show wear well, and I think it will be interesting to see them in different environments, rather than one all the time. Its good too that they don't gloss over the killing and processing of the porcupine. Sierra club survival just won't cut it and a real world situation.

As far as Cody's feet, I think Mors Kochanski advocated the muliple wool socks in the snow approach years ago. Does anyone else recall this?

I'll just agree with what everyone else has said. Pretty good that we actually got to see them going back and forth in good humor. I think that in and of itself was a major plus.
