Dual Survival

I doubt it was the knife he was using on the show last night, but today on his facebook he put a picture of a new knife he hopes to use on the show...

the first episode was pretty good, but I saw most of it on the videos last week that are on the discovery website...

We were talking about the "super shelter" that Cody built on another forum and we learned that--quite a coincidence-- the originator of the idea (and the guy that taught Cody) will be showing us how to make one in Ron Hood's next magazine. http://survivaldotcommag.com/web/

I enjoyed the show a lot. A big plus to me was the environment they were in is the same as where I live.

Yup the show was great, I really like how each of them look at survival differently.

Kinda interested to see where it goes. I'll probably try to catch it again over this weekend. But I have to admit, coming in about 20 minutes into the first episode, I was thoroughly underwhelmed. So much so that I fell asleep on the floor while watching it. At least I THINK THAT was what I was watching. I was kinda tired.....

I guess it is the current edition, shipping now.

Next month is survival kits.

I've been a good daddy. I know what I want for father's day.

I've been looking forward to issue 2 & 3. Just wish they would hurry up and get here.

I learned to build a "super shelter" from Mors Kochanski when he visited the UK a few years ago. Don't know if the Cody one is the same as I havn't seen the show yet.

I missed it Friday
BUT
a replay is going to start in 10 minutes 10:00am CDT on
discovery channel
(hd and regular)

I watched it last night (DVR). It's a pretty interesting show. Even my wife enjoyed it. The contrast between the two is interesting and entertaining.

I think it will be the best of the survival shows on TV.

I liked Survivorman but the way he had to set up all those cameras and drag them around just seemed like so much work. It made me feel sorry for him and didn't really add anything to the show IMO.

I'm on going to comment on Man vs. Wild. It is what it is.

I like the show, but do not care for its basic thesis of conflict. It does me no good seeing tough guy tell the earthy crunchy guy that the latter pisses him off, etc., or vice versa. But otherwise, I like to see another wildnerness type show on Discovery, and will be watching.

It should be a hit for us "survival" types but for the general TV viewing population maybe not so much.
Basically everything they did has already been covered on Survivorman & Man vs Wild.
They need to set themselves apart from their predecessors but I'm not sure how they can achieve that.

I liked it when the hippy, earthy, guy was eating grubs right out of the ground -- raw AND the tough, military, guy was saying -- not me, I like red meat of 4-legged animals. Kind of says a lot about the tough, military, guy. He seems to be way behind in survival skills as compared to the hippy, earthy, guy.

for the short time they were out there, Dave got the best Quality and qauntity food source they had, yes Cody built a great shelter but the food score goes to Dave. Yes I know in a Survival situation you have to get it when you can but Dave new there was good meat out there and he went out and got it!

If I was in that situation for real like that, yes I would try for some game early while I was strong!

In the comments below the pic of the new knife, Steve Davis (Critr) clears it up. The new knife on his FB page is not Dave's. It s Steve's.

Just to clear up a little confusion, this knife is designed by Steve Davis A.K.A. Critr'. My post show up as Dave because I try to moderate this page. Thanks for all the kind words brothers, be looking for some vid this weekend using this blade. -Critr'

I think Dave will be sticking with his Pathfinder.

I've heard that Cody attended Mors training and considers Mors one of his primary gurus.
