Dwaine Carrillo, Airkat Knives

Has anyone received a knife from him recently? Anyone? He had pics on his website (which is not working ATM) of some work in progress. Some recent knife deliveries to anyone which he claimed was going on would help put a lot of minds at ease.

I received a email from another gentleman on the forum who Dwaine owes him a few knives. One was delivered, but only after he pestered Dwaine.
Hopefully he will come through for everyone he owes a knife to!!

Thanks. Maybe the old saying, "The squeakiest wheel gets the grease" still holds true.

4 - 6 weeks is not realistic. Iordered a lot of these as i was a true fan ...but the waitingtime allways endure longer as the paypal safetysystem ( 45 days ) ...and after that period you need to wait ........ and like the other guy above stated: The hardest knife to make is the allready payed one...
Dwaine is reliable but ....if you are someone who want to get a result for your payment "in time" .....and not with open end ...than this is no choice ...

Have you received your knives?

Yes it takes a while to get a custom knife but Dwaine IS SHIPPING! You probably heard about the tornado that demolished his home and shop and the flood plus the new equipment he is using. I received my last order a couple of days ago (see picture on the top part of his home page) and the knife is superlative. Be patient and you will get a masterpiece.

Well that just sucs, I've had people try to pay me for work before I started the actual work and I always tell them I'll collect payment when all work is done and the customer is satisfied. You should never pay upfront like that, maybe a small deposit to get you locked in. I'd never send a full payment though until the product was ready to be shipped.

Why change the filters or use another comp when both are great excuses to string people along???
Ugh

It appears that his website is down. I myself had ordered a knife and paid in full back in December of 2014. The last I heard from him was December of 2015 in which he posted a very long explanation for all the delays. He also detailed for me supposed health issues regarding a recent diagnosis. He requested that I, "keep it under my hat". So then I was in a very uncomfortable position about pressing him about delivery any more. He then posted some sporadic updates on his website about how things with his knives were coming along. I believe his last update on his website was approx the April timeframe. In his last post he noted about more delays and problems with his CNC sub-contractor. Then nothing....

Has anyone else heard from him? I always like to give the benefit of the doubt and I am extremely patient but it appears my patience has gotten me nowhere. I assume like others I am out $900.00. The only and last time I ever pay up front.

For $900 he could at least send an email saying it isn't ready but he's working on it.

When someone pays me for something I feel the utmost responsibility to safely deliver the item in a timely manner. I stress selling more than buying because of that responsibility.

I wish I could make something from raw materials that people were eager to pay top dollar for. It would be a dream come true or a nightmare- I'd love to have the opportunity to find out.

Been in business, HVAC, for close to 40 years and will only take a small deposit on a large project.
I have been offered full payment up front many times and always refuse. There is no desire to finish that job quickly. When full payment is received the job is done and the customer is satisfied. Why would someone want you to pay up front for something that doesn't exist??
Too many variables come into play. If I got hurt and couldn't finish a job I'd rather my customer have his money in his pocket to go somewhere else.
Really hope this guy comes through for the buys that are stuck.

I hear ya. After being in this whole knife game for 15 years it was the first time I've ever posted money up front. DC seems to have been in the business for a while and he said his books were open. I took the chance. But when I initially was looking into his knives his website said 6-8 weeks. I emailed him and said that if that turnaround time was still good I would place an order. This was after he lost everything the year before for in a tornado. I wish he would have been more up front about his overly optimistic lead times. Looking back I'm not sure how he could have even made such promises.
But I was taking him at his word. Unfortunately in the custom knife world these scenarios have played themselves out far too often.

I feel ya SS. I've done the same and been burned real good bro.
When you're a stand up guy that honors his word, you almost expect it from others. It sucks finding out the opposite.
Still hoping you get squared away brother.
Joe
