DYAD history/variations

"I should add that I have a double bolstered jigged bone version of the mini and I have an even smaller double bolstered jigged bone version. Both concept models that we showed at shows but didn't get a big response. I carry them quite often. No clip. Neat little pocket pieces."

Thanks Joyce. One-offs I assume. When does the production run start. :D

WOOOOOHAH! I want one of those jigged bone mini dyads! When is the sprint run? Hubba, Hubba!

It's not fair, It's just not fair at all that they would make a "jigged bone" version of the Dyad and a total Dyad fanatic like myself can't get one :( . However I guess that working for the GREAT SPYDER FACTORY would definitely have it's perks. SEND ME AN APPLICATION IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!! :D

Personaly I'd like to see a Dyad done with a coluored frn handle Delica style/size pe and a sheepsfoot serated blade.

G10 would be even better :p
Steel wise VG10 would be fine

The pics looks great. Those two Dyads are beautiful. I would definitely buy those and use them with pride.

Hi JD and how you doing Dave? Boy, I haven't posted in a long time but came upon this old Dyad thread and couldn't resist bringing it back up.

I, like JD, love the Dyads. In fact they are my favorite Spydercos of all time. Dave might remember and like him, I used to have an extensive old Spyder collection. I had about seven Dyads at one time but eventually sold them all off except for one that I've EDC'd off and on for years. I remember Sal's, (hey Sal!), law suit concerning the cheap Dyad knock-offs and really hated to see the Dyad dropped from the line. To me the Dyad is as handy as pocket knives get.

Man Sal, I'd start the line for one of those mini Dyads in a heartbeat! What little beauties and what fabulous gents' knives. Would be super handy and something you'd have with you at all times. I've always wanted to put stag scales on my last remaining Dyad and will do so one of these days. I think an all stainless, jigged bone or stag mini Dyad would be super! Come on Sal, make a few for us Dyad aficionados!

Well Gene thank you for resurrecting this great old thread that I started sometime back in April. I am actually surprised that there aren't more collectors like you and me GENE because if anyone would take a serious look at the old C-44P&S Dyad they would want one for an EDC without a doubt. I have added 3 more big Dyads and 3 more small Dyads since I started this thread back in April. I have recently become very obsessed with the Zowada which I think is another "lost classic".

The Great Spyder Factory should put this on their drawing board immediately. I will probably keep most of the Dyads in my collection just so I have a bunch of BUUs ( back up units). I lost a Spyderhawk last fall in the wetlands where I was working at the time. That was such a "gut-wrenching" experience. The only thing that sort of got me over it was the fact that I had a BUU to replace it with. That's another reason that I previously suggested a lanyard hole for any future Dyad that may come down the line. Especially for our Maritime brothers & sisters where you have a situation to where you could lose one very fast. I do believe in trauma prevention. OK what do you all say? :)

Those bone prototypes are lovely - The dyad already feels like an old fashioned knife with the complementary pair of blades and the jigged bone adds to the design considerably. Shame they never made it....

I'd love to do a short run of the mini-mini with the dual boslters and jigged bone scales, but the cost would be high and I don't think the market is there for such functional pocket jewelry.

sal

Sal, Matt Conable and his partner at William Henry Knives are doing a pretty good job of single-handedly creating a pocket jewelry (folding knife) market. They are making more knives than ever since moving to Oregon, and all at higher prices.

I bet AG Russell would do a mini-Dyad order with Stag if you were interested.

I have probably got a dozen knives on my dresser and in the top drawer but I have not carried another knife since I got my Mini Dyad. I was lucky enough to get a Micarta model with the twin locks, and I would not trade it for anything but two of the same model. I wore out the pocket clip and now I carry it in the watch pocket of my jeans. As far as I am concerned, this knife is as close to perfect as I need.

Sal, I gave my oldest daughter a Streamlight and a Spyderco when she went away to college, how about bringing back the Mini Dyad for 2007 for my youngest?

Hey, can't hurt to ask!

Those jigged bone ones are absolutely beautiful :D
Damn I'd love to have them in my pocket

since we know the factory can put out a slipjoint....

how about a stainless model with both clippoint and warncliffe? 21st century slipjoint!
Funny enough a few of us over at British Blades were talking about the exact same thing. Double slipjoints for functionality, bolstered with exotic scales to apeal to the "Gents" crowd, and double bladed to make it more acceptable to those that see traditional multiblades as the only acceptable pocket knife.
Hot damn. I'd love to have double bolstered, double bladed slipjoints

Sorry for taking so long to reply. JD, I used to be a collector but no longer am. My collection of Dyads is long gone with the exception of a large Micarta that I will keep forever. I still think they are the handiest of all Spyders. I would buy in an instant an all stainless, bone or stag version, 3" closed! It would be a true gent's pocketknife.

I regard my Spyderco C-44P&S Dyad ( big Dyad) as my best EDC to date. I have been carrying it for about 3 months now and it is really growing on me. I also would love to carry one of my smaller C-39 Micarta Dyads but because I know it is going to be a very coveted Spyder in the future I restrain myself. Please bring back the Dyad it is a superb all around multi purpose knife. I am still in "hoard mode" for any Dyad I can get my hands on. JD Spydo

Hey Gene, welcome back.

I've been carrying the Jester sized Dyad (jigged bone) lately. I'm considering a sprint run of that model. (1200 pcs)

We're also working on several new Dyads, but different patterns, different locks, different materials.

It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it ;)

Thanks Sal!

oh my..a sprint of the dyad jr jigbone..i hope on both side..are the ones that Sal has on both sides i wonder..that would be a nice piece..i'd be in for that one..

Hi Sal,
Nice to be welcomed back and thank's! Please DO the sprint run of the Jester sized Dyad's in jigged bone and PLEASE continue work on the Dyads. The Dyads really are one of your best ideas EVER besides the clip and the SpyderHole.

I really have to give credit to JD Spydo for originating this thread but NOT because the Dyad may be super valuable in the future but because the Dyads are one your best creations ever!

By the way Sal, the Monarch's are running and you NEED to take a bike ride here again to visit your beginnings where you first sold you're sharpener's in Redding, CA.

Perhapse mentioning names is a bit uncouth, but its onething when some namelss chinese company knocks you off, but quite another when smith and wesson does it. I guess done is done, so be it.

Anyhow, the idea of a full sized dyad with a full flat ground PE blade and than a saber or hollow SE would be cool. I frequently EDC something similar with a PE Millie and SE Native. The idea of using dual comp locks is awesome. Ti handles with integral locks, while possibly taking it out of my price range, would be an ultimate for EDC. Another idea is to take that single center liner lock idea and use it for dual comp locks. I am probably in the minority haivng a rather low budget here. It really is a good idea. My first thought was how awesome. Then I realized they were gone and was a bit sad.

I think its somewhat important that this knife not disadvantage the use of either blade due to the existence of the other blade. This might make a full flat grind impractical.

I think thin and lite are both good ideas. I also have a question regarding the development of this knife. How well would a center liner float without a backspacer as the comp lock would require?
