DYAD history/variations

A Dyad with Cocobolo (a la Kopa) scales would be nice, too! Those Cocobolo scales on my Kopa just look better with use and age... :)

Bottom line is, mini or large, the Dyad is too good a design to let die. I would LOVE a mini or large in all stainless.

There are 2 possibilities that would be nice. A Hawkbill Dyad with 2 Harpy sized blades made from ZDP-189 PE & SE. Or a Delica sized Dyad with 2 S30V blades PE & SE. I just feel in my gut that this is a real possibility. I think it would be a great seller and at the same time you won't let a great classic like the Dyad go by the wayside. IF this is a bad idea then tell me why?

I think that a smoooth bone mini Dyad would be great. If not, then an almite version would be a very lightweight, tough cuttin tool. I'm going to go and dig out my FRN mini now. I had the opportunity about 5 months ago to buy a micarta version for 50 bucks and didn't...dumb mistake.

Well GOD Bless you guys ten fold for bringing my old "DYAD Variations" thread back up again. It's really funny too because just on Saturday I was thinking about making a new Dyad thread of some sort but I was having trouble thinking of something new that we hadn't talked about.

What about this scenerio: First of all bring back a Dyad for fishermen with H-1 steel and a nice lanyard set up so it would be safe to use it out at sea. Second make a hard working edition of it in S30V blade steel and a G-10 handle for a general, all-purpose hard work knife and last but definitely not least make a colored Micarta version with ZDP-189 or some other high end steel. OK let's talk about it

Hey JD we were just kicking the Dyad Sprit around yesterday over at the Spydie forum.... IMO Sal can't go wrong in bringing back the Dyad or a slight variation of it... Micarta, G-10 or bone.... I personally would love to see it in G-10... And bring on the color, like I mentioned yesterday, Burgundy would rock in G-10.... And don't forget the gold bug on the blade... I love both of mine and both sizes... the C-44 is a real work horse... Jr. is a great addition to any collection... I have somewhat retired both of mine, they still come out of the safe from time to time for a day in the pocket, but they both have seen many miles… Sal, like I mentioned yesterday…. Cash is on it’s way…. Two each please…. :D :D

While we're on the subject. Anyone have any ideas about the "next Dyad"?

Only that I'd like to see another produced!

I like Spydies because they appeal to my "tree-hugger fashion sense," you know, they seem at home among piles of climbing rope and kayak paddles. I didn't get my hands on a Dyad the first time, so I'd like to see the full-size come back, with G-10 scales and a clip.

(keeping fingers crossed...)
Peace.
Alex.

I would really love it if Spyderco would seriously want to get the plans drawn up for a new Dyad. I just wonder though if they would want to do a big version and a small ( gentlemens) version like they did the last time.

From what the one brother said I do think that a G-10 handle for use around marine conditions would be great. However something tells me that model was made for Micarta scales.

Maybe if they are really serious about another 2 bladed knife the best way would be to do a poll either on this Forum or the Spyderco.com Forum. Everything from blade steel to handle scales could be voted on. I think this could be done and the new version could be a big winner for everyone involved.

JD, did you not catch this post!!! ;)
Thanks for the update Sal, much appreciated:).

I'm slow Axlis but I'm getting there :D . It's always great to hear from the General  . The drum beating needs to commense for a G-10 handled version with a premium blade steel. I know there are a lot of Dyad fans out there. It is truly one of those Spyders that they need to set up a test driving facility for  Get them suggestions rolling in :)
