e- cigarettes?

What do they smell like? Is there an unscented version?
Does whatever causes the smell have nicotine in it? Is there a danger of "second hand" vaporize-ing?

Chris, the are over 2500 "flavors" from one vendor alone. You can get them in a variety of tobacco, candy, desserts, drinks (alcoholic and non), fruit, and other assorted novelty flavors. The one I use is called "Fresh Mint" and I swear it tastes like Double Mint gum, and not a menthol cig. I agree with the diet and exercise helps. I started crossfit and some strength training workouts and I feel great.

Sure, there will always be haters floating around the workplace. I used to work across from a woman that had HR draw up a document that everyone had to sign because she was allergic to every friggin thing under the sun. Cologne, soap, shampoo, after shave, foot powder, Downey, Tide, I mean everything...yet she smoked about 2 packs a day. She would throw herself across the desk and start hyper ventilating, it was all an act to get pity from people.

AJ, I almost bought the Blu Ecig, but I opted for the Joyetech eGo version. It was about $75, and it works pretty good for me. I'd recommend you give Trivia Monster (member here) a shout and ask him about this topic if you are interested in quitting. There are also a bunch of videos on Youtube regarding the various vaporizing devices and techniques. I do recommend looking into the Joyetech though.

I'm a cigar lover. I'm not a nicotine addict and I don't get to smoke as often I'd like. Good cigars cost too much and take too long to enjoy frequently. I won't smoke them in the house because they stink up the place. Also there's that whole cancer thing.

A couple months ago I bought an "e-cigar" online. If doesn't have a smell, tastes pretty close to a real cigar, doesn't produce smoke and can be puffed on and put away with no mess and no fuss.

It ain't as good as the real thing, but I do enjoy it and it is a decent substitute when I want the occasional puff while watching tv or laying in bed. Doesn't stink up the house and doesn't require any time commitment. Won't start a fire if I drop it either.

I'm a fan.

I typically puff on an e cig in an enclosed room and so far , no one entering the room has ever commented on the smell.
I'm not saying there's no odor, but it's not like a smoke filled room. I've even had people enter a room while my back is turned and they have no idea what I'm doing. There's no lingering smoke, the vapor disappears.
I hope it doesn't turn out that these are bad for you, because I'm having too much fun.

Eight months since I smoked my last coffin nail after 30 years of doing so. My we and I both smoked heavily until we did the ecig thing. I now have an iTaste VV mod with a Mini Davide tank that I fill with juice we make here at home. There is a substantial learning curve to all the gear, gadgets, and juices. It's worth it. We both walk and jog regularly now and can breathe better than we have since we were teenagers. We are both down to six milligrams of nicotine from a starting point of 24mg. They work. I know what the ingredients are, unlike cigarettes. The best evidence I have is the way I feel after eight months.

I believe across the pond they are researching uses as smoking cessation. I can only think our FDA will have to address this as well. The fact at Lorilard has bought Blue should indicate tobacco companies believe this as well.

I switched to dip because I can dip without taking a break. Mint flavor tears my throat up, but everything else is fine. It sounds like some of you might be having allergic reactions to flavor additives that might be isolated to only certain brands or flavors.

E-cigs fill the void of the nicotine and the habit of putting something in your mouth, besides the nicotine they are harmless..but much less worse than cigarettes with all the chemicals

I may check it out. I have also thought about getting some gum, I haven't tried other mediums yet. I won't take medication though.

My step dad got one and has been using it for the last 6 months. I think's it's much less offensive than cigarettes, and he has managed to stop smoking them. I really can't pick up any smell from it.

I'm not sure if there are also detrimental health effects, but I'm guessing they are less severe than cigarettes.

Ecigs are the best cigarette alternative they've come up with so far.
They may not be good for you, but they're definitely much better for you.
You get the manual/oral fixation of getting to "smoke" something, and you get the nicotine.
What you don't get is the cancer, emphysema, shortness of breath, smelling like an ashtray, litter, fire hazard, arsenic, ammonia, burning organic matter, cyanide, accelerants, or air pollution.
I can take two puffs and then put it back in my pocket, or I can "smoke" a cigarette and a half worth, without being committed to cigarette size portions.

I do it inside the house, in the car, there's no real scent at all, and certainly none that lingers. If I smoke a cigarette in the morning, my girlfriend will notice and complain when I get home at night. I use my ecig while we're sitting next to each other on the couch and it doesn't bother her at all.

Most people start with the cigarette looking ecigs that they sell at whatever local store sells cigarettes - buying those is like buying a knife at a gas station.
A lot of people get turned off of them from that one bad experience.

It is an area of knowledge (there are some very busy forums) that can be daunting and confusing when you start researching, with people using nicknames and abbreviations, it can be hard to tell where to start. There are so many reviews on youtube that you can't even begin to watch enough. And since it's such a new industry, they're coming up with significantly better devices all the time, much unlike the knife world that is so well understood and mature, so a new user FAQ that's two years old is outdated enough to no longer be relevant.

You can get a good starter kit for $50-70, but you can spend hundreds if you want the Sebenza of ecigs. You can mix and match parts (legos), you can buy custom mods and handmade accessories. If you want it to become a knifelike hobby that kinda takes over your life and your wallet, that's certainly a possibility, but it's also not necessary (some guys buy one Benchmade and it's the only knife they need for years). After the initial start up cost, which is less than 2 cartons of cigarettes, it's much cheaper than buying cigarettes.

The variety of flavors is incredible. Once you realize that the thing you're "smoking" is not a cigarette, and doesn't have to taste like one, you can get whatever you want. My favorites are vanilla and coconut, but I also like clove and banana. Flavor is very subjective, and you can buy small bottles cheaply to try out different flavors before buying a big bottle of whatever you decide you like.
I've even seen ads for caffeinated juice, though haven't tried it.

I smoked a pack a day of Marlboro Reds for 16 years, and didn't particularly want to quit, but this turned out to be a better alternative for me and lots of others.

There are hundreds of websites, many of which are as reliable as a lot of the knife websites we keep going back to. My latest favorite is ECBlend.

As far as doing it at work, my company has a policy against it, but I sneak a hit here and there anyway, as the vapor disappears right away and unless someone is actually watching you do it, they'll never know.
I do it in stores, restaurants, movie theaters, the mall, etc. I try to be discrete because if someone doesn't know what it is, they might think it's drugs or something, and because I'm not doing it for attention, but no one ever notices.
If you don't smoke cigarettes, you have no need to bother with it.
If you do, you'll probably like it.

After a few weak attempts at quitting I'm gonna try again this time want to try ecigs Rev were did you pick up the Joytech ?

I found a local store that sells that and many other brands. Oe thing I will suggest that I did not do:
Get yourself the leakproof tank. It costs extra and may not be part of the kit, but it's worth it. There is stuff all over the bay for this brand, but I'm not sure it is reliable. Just to note, the last pack of cigs I bought was 3 weeks ago, still have 7 left in the pack. I just can't do it anymore, especially not for $6/pack.
This is the one i have:
http://www.joyetech.com/product/eGoC.php
It has disposable tanks, but the polycorbonate tanks are much better and they hold more juice. This means you refill it less. Get the 1000mAh batteries, they are bigger but they last longer. Also, find a local shop near you so you can try different flavor juices. Some of them are just nasty and taste nothing like the given name. Most of the cherry flavors taste like cherry Nyquil, the grape is the same way. I paid about $75 including tax, plus another $25 for various juice flavors. Damn thing works like a charm for me, and it will for you if you stick to it. If I can help you out more, let me know.

Thanks Rev a pack of cigs were I live are almost $12.00 and going up gotta try something different. Tried the Blu brand couldn't even smoke it.

$12!!??!??!?! Dang! I guess I'm pretty lucky with $4.75 a pack.

REV. Thanks! I know what I'm asking Santa for this year!

A guy on my mail route sells the eGo stuff. He swears by it. He said he tried them all and the eGo was the best.

$12 a pack? That is insane, the highest they got here (Camel brand) was about $7.25, that was a lot considering what the cost of living is here.

It works when you stick to it, and you make up your mind that you want to move past the vice. I told the guy that gave me info that I would help others so, passing on the info I got, along with my experience. You know what else, since. I "quit" I've been sleeping much better. I have more energy throughout the day and I just feel better about a lot of things in general. The people at the local shop I go to are helpful and will let you sample any of the flavored juices you want, everything from coffee flavors to deserts, they even have a tuna flavor. :barf:
