Earl Sees the World!

This might be one of the best threads ever :)
If Earl takes the chance to cross the ocean, I will be very happy to carry him around to a decent beach

and have him try real pizza:

before he moves to another European country :)

Earl is making his second stop here in Kentucky! He likes it here, Primble sure showed him a good time!
I'll be showing Earl around Louisville for the next few days. A barlow knife should feel right at home here. Louisville sits on the mighty Ohio river, and we all know old Tom and Huck were river lovers and barlow users.
Stay tuned to join us for some sightseeing.:D

Maybe Earl would like to see Iroquois Park. I have fond memories of meeting friends from around the Midwest in Iroquois Park the night before the Derby each year in the 1970s and early 1980s. We'd have hotdogs on a fire, drink some beer, sing some songs, sleep under the stars, and head for Churchill Downs in the morning; probably totally illegal!:rolleyes: But I enjoyed that Derby Eve reunion each year at least as much as the races the next day.

Goodness, Louisville is even closer to me! Hey see if EARL wants to carve a baseball bat while there.:D

Earl's hanging out with me and one of his kin folk today.:D He won't get to see much of Louisville today due to a heavy work load for me:grumpy:, it'll be dark when we arrive and dark when we leave. But we'll be out and about tomorrow.

That is a fine looking TC that Earl is hangin' out with today. Looking forward to the tour tomorrow.:thumbup::D

P.S. - Looking up the page - it appears that everybody has turned gold!!!:)

Yeah, you caught me! ;)
I became re-interested in pocket knives almost exactly a year ago (after 45 essentially knifeless years that followed this farm kid going off to college), and soon thereafter started lurking on BF. I didn't officially register until July, but I think of this month as my "anniversary". As I thought back over the past year, I realized how much I've learned from this site, what nice folks I've "met" here, the amazing amount of generosity of various types I've experienced here, and how much enjoyment I get from logging in here probably at least a couple of times most days, and it was a no-brainer to "upgrade". (Plus, I seem to have kicked a 40-year cigar habit for the past month, so the savings there easily cover the minimal cost of a membership upgrade. What does a gold membership cost? Less than a dime a day, for sure. Even though my monthly knife budget is relatively small, I can certainly handle the cost of a paid membership!)

All nice to hear and I am glad you found the porch. You always have nice things to say and I appreciate members like that !! ;):thumbup::)

Great post, GT! I gave up smoking my pipes 9 months ago, when I had a heart attack. Don't know how much the pipe tobacco contributed. This is a genetic thing: hereditary early onset coronary disease. But pocket knives have become one of my new, healthier hobbies. No more expensive than fine pipes and tobacco. And I can carry them with me on hikes and bicycle rides. And my wife doesn't complain about the smell!

Thanks, Primble and Scott. Scott, I hope the hiking and biking is helping you and your "ticker" stay on good terms!!

The plan was for Earl to shadow me here at work today.

But Earl gets bored easily. He says to me "Barlow's are working knives fool.....Let me do something!"

So I had to let him jump in and help with some things. Seeing how the technology in cars has changed since Earl was younger, I had to give him some easy tasks. Once he looked under the hood of some of these cars he seemed okay with that.

I know EARL likes to see the sights, but I imagine once he had a chance today to show he still has the chops for work, even at his advanced age, you wouldn't be able to keep him away! "Shadow you" indeed! A true Barlow like EARL is going to get right to work with you. So nice to see that.:D

Does anyone ever worry that many of us hear knives speaking to us??!?

You know, if it's a good tool, one that does a lot for you, like say, my truck; the scythe; also the dog, or the cat.... (The cat doesn't do anything. He just pretends he does.) Then, I don't worry. Now if some strange tool I didn't know well started talking to me, I might worry. :D

Once they've got names they tend to talk a lot. That's what I've noticed, anyway.:p

Those are great shots, clutch! EARL seems to be right home in the garage with you. For an old guy, he still pulls his own weight.
