Earthquake!! M8.8 in Japan

Would it be out of line to mention the American Red Cross is taking donations to send help and supplies to Japan?

Timed power cut by area will happen in Tokyo. From March 14 and about 1 week planned.
Hope not so serious but family members don't have pocket light for personal carry.
I will go shopping for Mini Maglites and Eneloop rechargeable battery.

Maybe you can do that. Thank you for your kindness.

Google Crisis Response might help. It has a "person finder" among other tools.

Thanks for info. I resistered his name and check sometimes.
But in fact we can only wait now. Someone sorrowed his helplessness on BBS.

I went shopping. Peaceful sunny day at Kichijoji.
Pocket light was sold at major store but I could get it at outdoor shop.
Three 50's men were always in shop and gathered at rescue tool corner,
and they took headlights and Pelican flashlights, and some whistles.
Shop staff said "First three days..." "US army official..."
I bought 3 Mini-Maglite and 1 Primus cartridge.
Bit warm before spring and peoples were as usual on clothes,
it meant that many people don't think about rain, cold, glass and dust resistant.
Strange feels... vegetable shop predicted price up and breads were disappeared at 24hr convenients,
but human movement was still losing mindset and cars shutted traffic.

^ Thanks for checking in folks.

I heard that the nuclear plant "might" be having a meltdown. Let's all hope and pray for the best but keep those go bags/emergency kits at the ready.

主はあなたを祝福し、維持することがあります

(I hope that translation is correct)

Although they still have some difficult issues but the nuke reactors will be OK.
U.S. aircraft carrier has reached off shore of Sendai, one of the most devastated area
and started rescue operations.
Thank you for your help.

Planned power cut that includes capital area was admitted by government in public.
TEPCO website was crowded and difficult to browse, so I cannot confirm its time schedule.
Refrigerator will stop, frozen foods will melt and hot shower will be also temporary unavailable.
Breads and instant noodles were already sold out at any shops. That will be also about rices and cans.
Eggs and flesh meats will be difficult to store but no problem with carrots and potatos.
Gas cooking will be OK because it works with type C battery.
Traffic signals might stop but not so much effect will occur to trains from news site.
Kerosine stove still alives and I have fuel stocks, and gas stove is also OK if needed.
Light equipment is neck carry Maglites and Primus 2245, and cheap emergency flashlight.

[EDIT1]
Maybe group 1, 6:20-10:00 and 16:50-20:30 on Monday, but still uncertain.
Sunrise is at 5:56 and sunset is at 17:46.

I cant even imagine what the people of Japan are enduring, some of which are our forum brothers and sisters.
I have had the USGS on my home page for years. It lists five, of the most recent quakes, that have happened over the world, continuously updating. Well since the devastating quake and tsunami, Japan has had 1 to 2 after shocks, EVERY HOUR, averaging 5.0.
I hope the ground stops rumbling, so that rescue operations, and the people of Japan can start to move forward. Take care and God Bless.

何で中国が15人だけ送るのかなぁーーー最悪。
相変わらず。。。。七転び八起き。。。絶対、大丈夫!

Shanghai-Ibaraki airline was quickly recovered. It's not so bad.
US helicopter clues were slightly affected from radiation. Keep secure.. but quickly....

That is GOOD news!!!
Glad you are OK! Fujita Too!
My prayers go out to you all, my EX wife is in Yokohama, I have read that Tokyo and Yokohama are doing all right, all things considered.
Keep your spirits up. GKN

Hi, forumates.
I'm pretty ok so far, just came back to my house from the central Tokyo, stepping on several
public transports just starting to work.
I was giving lecture on mathematics at a certain IT company and it was
just the moment I was talking about the distribution of scale and frequency of the earthquake
and other natural phenomena obeying power-law probability distribution, when the biggest one hit.
I was in a fairly large building and could see several fire and smoke along the coast.

I spent a night to wait the trains start again and managed to come home back.

Those tsunamis are simply devastating and the most terrible thing is they had no time
to evacuate I think. I've also heard some nuclear powerplants are in dangerous condition.

Anyway, I'll take some rest now. Thank you very much for your concern and pray.

glad to see you are OK.

Glad you guys in Japan are OK, I logged in today and immediately searched for Fujita to find out how's he doing. Hold on there!

3/15 is a limit day of individual income tax final return and I rode bicycle to post a envelope to tax office.
Of course it can be delayed all around damaged areas and some power cut areas.

Food list what I've bought from that time for emergency;
10 cans
4 Weider in jellys
3 breads
30 powder soups
8 Snickers
6 noodles

I went to vegetable shop after my family heard they will sell 5 5kg rice.
I reached shop 15 minutes before opening at 4th but shop staff didn't formed line,
and old ladies who came 7th and 8th were set themselves to run into first.
Customers were 70% oldies and 20% young mothers, especially former were feared.
When opening there were 40 people and I walked to line up, then No.10-20 people run into shop to get rice.
Many customers took lettuce, banana, fruits and others that seemed to be difficult to store.
That's so crowd that I forgot to find sweet potatos.
I heard 100 people lined this shop yesterday.

Foods list I bought (about 3200yen);
potato
carrot
onion
garlic
peanuts
miso
burdok
eggplant

I was just reading an article from Reuters that said there were some pretty serious issues going on at the Daiichi complex in Fukushima. Sounded pretty bad, I hope they get it under control.
