Easy Openers

jmh33, fine old Baldwin with over 100 years under its belt.

lambertiana, a couple of nice old classics along with some good paperwork.
I had written an article on easy open models for "Knife Magazine" a few months back, and the earliest catalog reference I could find for those models with the half moon cutout in the handle was from 1899.

Barrett, yes, I absolutely agree that any vintage traditional knife should be shown and talked about. And I'm also puzzled by the idea that most modern (post 1900) easy open knives have nail nicks on the main blades.
I think it has more to do with tradition rather than practicality.

Badger28, that's a great and very unique metal handled variation. I love the English "Wardlows Steel" fancy stampings on the handle.

dsutton24, interesting custom made easy open model.

sf fanatic, a unique take with that Sheldon type easy open model. And two nicely customized variations by jsdistin.

Rookie82, a fine group of Tuna Valley models.

I only have two easy openers. The older of the two is this H&B

and this Globe

There are no easy openers in my 1884 HSB catalog, but there is one in the 1899 HSB catalog:

And two NYKC in my 1902 Worthington catalog:

That Globe is special

This is the most recent Robeson and I'm just thrilled with it. I believe it's called a farmers jack? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It is in pretty good shape minus some marks on the blade from someone trying to sharpen it with a rotary tool.

Charlie, great example that is at least 100 years old. Sears Wilbert models were offered from circa 1908 to 1925 and were made by a few different cutlery companies.
While Challenge by some folders for Wilbert, I believe your fine example was made by Camillus. Enclosed is a Sears Wilbert illustration from 1914.
Not a bad deal for 41 cents, I hope you didn't pay much over retail. :)

Majorpain1, wonderful collection of easy open models and nice to see some close up shots from the group.

RickHuf, that's a fine old Robeson model with good looking red bone handles.
