Eating With Your EDC?

I think I deleted the picture of me cutting a poppyseed cake with my Bushman (worked real nice!). :D I used my Alox Bantam often when on post in Germany; when eating outside the dfac I didn't want to take silverware back in and plasticware doesn't do it. :D

My utility knife (was my EDC, and sometimes still is) I cut everything with. I won't use it with food anymore, when I did I scrubbed it off REAL well first.

I thought the old rule was that a pocket knife was magically sterilized every time you put it in your pocket.

But seriously the most contaminating thing I might cut with my knife is some kind of food. I wipe it off, maybe with a wet napkin, and put it back into my pocket. On rare occasions I pull my knife out at a meal when my wife is there. She complains about it but I tell her I haven't cleaned any dead animals with it recently.

I will used my EDC knife to prepare some food but I dont cut food on a ceramic plate with it because it is not good for it and if I do I will usually end up using a more traditional folder with a softer steel so I can re-sharpen it easier.

I was wondering how many people on here eat with their EDC blade?

Aside from peeling the odd apple when out and about, no I don't. I have kitchen knives for eating and food prep.

I never eat with my EDC knife. Ceramic dulls the edge. That's one of the reasons table knives and steak knives exist. Also, I don't want food particles and sauces/juices in the joints.

Use a longer blade so the juices don't get into the pivot...or just wash it.

And be careful when cutting; I HATE that scraping sound from ceramic, even with crappy steak knives.

Or, conversly, do that funny thing called sharpening it periodically.;)

Cheers!...

Sometime on Saturdays the boss cook porkchops and I hate using plastic knives so I use my knife for that, not match for the chop!

I've been in restaurants where the knife that they provided would not cut the food so I pull out my knife. I eat lunch at my desk most days and of course nobody brings me a table knife there so I use my own. The EDC knife is an EDC knife so it will be with you when you need it, and if that need involves your food and you don't have any other proper knife available then the EDC knife gets used.

Yeah id feel pretty silly taking out my edc to cut a sandwich in half or to cut up my steak at a restaurant, etc.

I use kitchen knives for food prep and regular restaurant knives they have on the table for eating my meal. My edc's are too dirty from using at work, etc to eat with.

prep on a cutting board doesnt bother me, but i wont put a good knife to a plate. it makes my skin crawl

Usually don't but, went to a wedding this past weekend (ordered steak as entree) and the knife the restaurant offered was complete shit (probably the worst butter knife ever was offered). Busted out my Spyderco Persian and it was one of the most pleasurable steak eating experienced of my life.
