I'm sure you guys know this but becareful when buying knives here. I just got burnt pretty good. If the seller doesn't please me I will post his website so everyone will be warned.Has anyone else had problems?

I did. Sometimes people lie. I too have had no problem with Ebay till now. The pictures and descrption were totally BS. I hope to resolve this soon, if not everyone will know this company.

I've never had a problem either. Feedback is your friend. if your issue isn't resolved though it would be nice to know what the issue was, and who the seller was also.

just got burned last week for the first time!

lost about $50 on a spyderco and amtrying to get the cash back from paypal...

i got lazy/complacent and didn't check feedback...my bad

You will know. Again this is not about Ebay. They do a great job. I just got taken. Full story will follow good or bad. If all goes well I will tell everyone.

was it a well rated seller? all the sellers have ratings and reviews, its easy to see which sellers are reputable and have provided consistnt service. i have only ordered a few knives off ebay, but i made sure the people selling had good ratings and i didint have any problems.

Here's my rules for ebay, and by following this I've never been burned.

1. NEVER purchase a knife from a seller who can't be bothered to include a good picture of the knife you'll be getting. Stock photos don't cut it and neither do blurry ones. You can cover up way too much with an intentionally blurry picture. If there are multiple units, ask for a picture of the exact knife you're getting, not another one like it.

I've asked for pictures before and was told by a seller that he didn't have time. I replied that I didn't have time to buy his knife. If they want their item sold, they'll work with you.

2. NEVER purchase from someone who can't be bothered to spell/grammar check their listing or who can't be bothered to use proper English. This goes for lots of @@@@@'s and !!!!!!'s in the title.

3. NEVER purchase from someone who's description of the item is two sentences but the terms of the auction is six pages. These people typically don't know what they're selling.

I use Paypal, but I prefer to have multiple payment options. It's not a deal breaker, but it's still a nice gesture by the seller. Some people don't want to use paypal and feel better with money orders. Paypal is easier for everyone involved, but cashing a money order isn't the end of the world. To me a seller who says PAYPAL ONLY is a seller who can't be bothered to help his customers. But I haven't used ebay much in three or four years, so maybe it's changed (I think I've bought one thing since 2006).

Follow these rules and you won't get burned.

Very good points. I followed all of them and still got burned. If I have to eat this purchase that's O'kay I'll deal with it,but this company will be off of Ebay I assure you.

Just a post note if someone says a knife is in mint condition does this mean a broken tip and rust? Sorry guys I'm venting.:grumpy:

.

eBay has changed quite a bit recently....PayPal (a wholly-owned subsidiary of eBay) is now the ONLY form of payment allowed by eBay....and, if you`re a seller, you can no longer leave negative feedback for non-paying/deadbeat/jerkoff bidders....kinda defeats the whole purpose of HAVING feedback, y`know?

But, as you described so well, it`s still a pretty good place to do business, as long as you avoid the snakes....

Ah. Like I said, I've bought one thing since 2006. So what happens if a seller gets burned? Aside from notifying ebay, how do they warn other potential victims?

The last knife I bought the seller had 99.2 %. It took him almost 2 weeks to send the knife, but it was free shipping. I emailed to him 2x if the knife was shipped. I got no answer. I looked back and found some negatives a year ago saying no ship/no response. I decided to wait a few days. I recieved the knife and an email that this guy had thrown out his back. I am glad I did not jump the gun and go negative. I hope you work out your issues. I still find many bargains on ebay.

Of course, eBay encourages complaintants to "try and work it out" with the seller, and they *will* notify the seller of a disgruntled buyer. I think if you claim fraud/misrepresentation, they will attempt a PayPal chargeback, but if the seller has already emptied his account, you`re basically screwed....

You can put in your description that you will accept money orders or personal checks, you just cannot check the box in payment details that you accept money orders.

I would say right here.Inform people on these forums. I am not against Ebay ,but if I get burnt you will know who got me. If that helps one person I'm happy.:)

For the most part, if you see someone`s been a steady seller for a few years, with good feedback, chances are they`re OK....many sellers are one-man-shows, and like the T-shirt sez, "Sh!t Happens"....people get sick, go to the hospital, out-of-state death in the family, go on vacation, you name it, it happens.... I normally give people 2 weeks to respond, and then I email them....in most cases, things turn out OK....(that`s coming from 4,000+ completed auctions over 9 years)

In the case of a seller with less than 100 positive transactions.
Funds are held "On Hold" in PayPal until the buyer leaves a positive feedback or 21 days pass.

I have probably bought close to 100 knives on Ebay. I have had a few knives not be what they were described as but the seller was very understanding and happily took them back. Once I bought on old Schrade (I think it was a 625) and when it came in it had horrible blade wobble and no snap to any of the blades. Needless to say that was not mentioned in the items description.

The seller refused to make good after several attempts to get him to take the knife back so he got negative feedback from me. He in turn gave me negative feedback and stated that I was quick to give him bad feedback ( although I had emailed him 3 times trying to explain to him what I'm sure he already knew) and had buyers remorse.

I have always wondered what was meant by buyers remorse. I have never bought a knife that I didn't want, but I digress. Since that time I have never had a problem.

I look for good feedback.

I want the item to be in the US.

I am very leery of someone listing an item as new and then stating "as is" somewhere in their listing.

I look for good clear pictures and good descriptions of item.

If I send them a question about the item and they don't reply back in a day or two I usually don't bother bidding.

When buying a used item (for me) there are specific questions I ask if not covered in their listing that can never be answered by looking at the pictures:
*How tight is the lock up?
* Any side to side or vertical play?
* Does the blade center when closed?

etc, etc...

For the most part I try to stay with reputable dealer like Spydie Guys, poor_fish, Gizmojoe's, your knife connection. I have bought multiple knives from them and have yet to have a problem.

On a side note I think it would be a good idea to have a sticky thread specifically for Ebay sellers that do not make the grade. It would help a lot of people out that don't learn until they get burned. Just my 2 cents though.

Good luck and I hope you resolve your situation.
