Ebay knives

Thanks for the post it was very informative. I especially agree with your suggestion (On a side note I think it would be a good idea to have a sticky thread specifically for Ebay sellers that do not make the grade. It would help a lot of people out that don't learn until they get burned. Just my 2 cents though.)this would be great. As we all know when you post a warning it can get lost in the shuffle. With a sticky thread you could check in from time to time. Again I am not slamming Ebay. I too have had many more positive transactions than negative. As soon as I get a response from the seller I will give the results.Hopefully he will be positive for his sake and mine. It's not worth a lot of grief to argue with the customer if he is not satisfied.

I agree stinger. I have had 99% of all my Ebay purchases go well. For the most part if you are doing your homework you can weed out the ones who are less than forthright with their listings.

When I first joined Ebay I got burned good on an Ipod purchase. The guy got my money and I got nothing. After I filed a complaint I ended up being compensated for about 60% of what I paid and was out of pocket for 2 months before it was resolved. It was a good lesson learned fast. I have been a much smarter Ebayer since that point. I almost laugh now thinking of all the things that should have told me NOT to buy this item.

His join date was a week old.
He had no feedback.
The item was in China.
He only took money order or cashiers check.
The price was "too good to be true."

There is this guy on eBay right now trying to sell a Benchmade 940-801 at the price of a 940-81! I think he is being dishonest because his title says 940-81, the "buy it now" price is exactly the MSRP for the 940-81 (600$), but the picture is that of the 940-801 and in the description he says it is a 940-801. It is the price that makes me think it is an intentional "error".

You can get some nice brand new knives from a few USA based "stores" on eBay.
The prices are often lowest you will find anywhere. Service is great on the well established ones as well.
If you buy anything from any individual sight unseen you are taking a bit of a chance.
NIB or mint means different things to people.
I've obtained knives from eBay and other places that were described as such and when I received them they had handling marks.
I'm sure the seller believed the knife was mint or NIB, but to a collector they were not.
So, I tend to expect some mistakes when dealing with the public instead of a dealer.
If I was taken I'd certainly try to get a refund, but all the times I have not been 100% pleased I've been able to remedy the problem by buying a new clip ,or polishing.
I never buy any knife from a individual that's available from a shop, because of the high instances of the knife at least being handled, even if it is unused.

I've come to the point that I am very leery when I see the word "mint". I have come to believe that a lot of people have no idea what that means or maybe my interpretation is wrong. To me, mint means perfect.

I've had very few problems with eBay knife buying. The one specific example that comes to mind, I think the USPS lost/stole the knife.

That's why it helps to ask specific questions, and steer clear of 'iffy' items. Hint to sellers, here's what I want to know.
Has the knife been used?
Carried?
Sharpened?
Original box/sheath/papers included?

Post real information and skip the vague/misused adjectives.

By the posts I've seen I think we're all on the same track. My seller had 100% good feedback and has been a member a long time. Both knives I received were nothing like they were presented. Believe me I'll spend twice as much to expose him as I did for the knives if he doesn't play fair. Thanks for all the responses they are all informative.

Stinger, the buyer on eBay has so much leverage that I am sure you can get a refund: sellers will do anything to avoid a bad review (unless it is a new seller that does not have anything to lose). Also, if you paid with PayPal, you can always open a dispute through them.
I have bought a few knives on eBay that were not exactly as described, but I never had any problems when I chose to return them. It does not matter that the seller specified "no returns" in the listing: if the description is not accurate, you always have the right to return the item. Contact the seller, explain the situation and if you see after a couple of e-mails that he is dragging his feet contact eBay.

I received a reply from the seller today "If you don't like it, please send it back to this address". No apology for misrepresentation or anything else.Once I receive my refund I will post the sellers name and more detail about my purchase. I hope this will help future buyers. There is no excuse to lie about a product. Like I said before if I help one person from being swindled I'll be happy.

Okay guys the seller's name is INDIANSILVER also uses BOWIEFIGHTER.Please beware of this seller on Ebay. I got a refund with no apology for his lying about the product.I ate the shipping charge to look at his junk.PLEASE don't purchase anything from him. He is on Ebay a lot so buyer beware.:barf::(
