Ebay

I use ebay to sell a lot but I tell you the fee's are through the roof . But as a buyer I do almost all my shopping on the internet. Some with ebay some with website's . You can get boned anywhere and if you are a fool with money.

there is a place just like EBAY but there is no listing fees and you get to decide on how you want to get paid. you can move all of your auctions to there site at one time. the only fees are when you sell something.

I've sold over a thousand production knives and/or sheaths on eBay with 99.8% of my transactions (items sold typically range from $9.99 to $100) consummated without incident. I have 100% feedback score. I have a "no questions asked" return policy so even if a buyer is remorseful, they can send the item back for a full refund (and I also add these buyers to my blocked bidder list). I describe all known shortcomings and use Auctiva's high resolution photos so buyers know exactly what they are bargaining for. I'm not concerned that I'm unable to leave "negative" feedback for a buyer. I try as much as possible to keep my emotions out of the mix. In fact, with the exception of new buyers with zero feedback score, I leave feedback immediately after receiving payment rather than waiting to receive feedback from the buyer before leaving same. On the rare occasion when I encounter an unreasonable buyer, their user ID goes on my blocked bidder list. If the buyer appears to be a scam artist, I report same to eBay. Eventually, unscrupulous buyers are weeded out. In spite of eBay and PP fees, (which for me, after seller discounts for shipping fast and free, amount to 10% of sales) eBay meets my needs as a seller.

I've had excellent success on ebay over the years, yes they charge 10%, but they provide a service.
When I can't sell a knife here, it always gets sold for me on ebay.
I don't know why so much dislike from BF users for ebay....

.....

And Paypal is a lifesaver. Love using them. No offense, Richard (you seem like a nice, solid guy), but I wouldn't buy from someone who required a MO. Way too much trouble for me to drive the 15 miles one-way to the nearest place that I can buy a MO. But Paypal? Quick, easy and safe to use (if you use it properly).
..............

I wouldn't, either. The only time's I've been successfully ripped off on ebay were when I sent a MO. With PP I have some protection, and since I use my CC, even more.

oh yes a buyer can give a neg but a seller cant?? is that not a double stander?? if he gives me a neg I want to give him back one too but ebay you cant do that.

This right here is why ebay did away with negs for buyers. Unjustified retaliatiry negs. I recently won an auction, paid within a day, seller couldn't be bothered to ship for 2 weeks, and when he did he didn't pack it properly. So I get my item a month late and very broken, and the seller tried to tell me "Tough luck!". I filed a claim, got my $$$ back, and left a neg. Did I deserve a neg in return? Hell No!

I have bought and sold many quality knives on e-bay in my time. That said, after e-bay UK canned the selling of knives and even related items a few years back I haven't bothered to look at or use the site for anything.

How come when I read the post here about ebay it is always the same thing?? counterfeit knifes on ebay. I got ripped off on ebay. it seams that everyone here talks about ebay but yet I have not Sean 1 post that was a positive about ebay. how come people are still dealing with them if they are that bad?? is that the only site on the net selling knives?? why not just buy from another dealer or member here on this site instead.

There is a "mechanic" on ePrey every day selling knives with blades that never left the factory together and often with shields that he applies (Lately they say "Scout Knife".). If you know his red background pictures, you're fine. Otherwise your screwed. And he has wonderful feedback - a reflection on his customers. He appears to be one of those who figures if God had not intended the clueless to be shorn, He would not have made them sheep.

ePrey is the Wild West. You better be quick (and pay with a credit card through PayPal).

Someone once told me when a person has a bad experience they are likely to tell everyone they know, when that same person has a good experience they only tell a couple people. We as customers, expect things to go "right" most always. It's human nature I'd say. When things go wrong, it differs from our ingrained expectations so much that we make it a point of conversation.

whoever told you that was a wise man

I bought this Sterling Silver Disc for my journeyman recently. One of the best experiences i've had lol!

you are the first people that I have read about good buys on ebay. I have a sellers account there but I refuse to sell there. I mainly deal with switchblades and I don't take paypal. I am glad that people are having good buys on there site.

You refuse to sell there ?

Ebay and Paypal sanction sellers of switchblades.

They cut you off, not the other way around.

Here it is right out of your own mouth,
yes but I am selling switchblades and paypal will reverse the money if they find out it was for a switchblade.

You don't ever miss a chance to mention selling stuff.
How have you avoided upgrading to a dealer membership ?

Wouldn't that be the right thing to do?
Wouldn't it just be simpler to sell here ?

Bingo !

They do it that way for exactly that reason.

ebay (imo) is fair and safe. they do favor the buyer in transactions, but i've only been ripped off once selling on ebay. I've never had any issues buying. so many people are anti-ebay or "evilbay" and i've never understood why? as a buyer u are basically protected no matter what. as a seller there are risks but no different than selling anywhere. shop owners have people take products for test/joy rides all the time then expect refunds. 10% ebay plus 3% paypal fees are very reasonable. the biggest thing for me is the lack of hassle. I haven't sold on forums for some time (i will still buy), to much hassle. same reason i buy from amazon, almost always free and quick shipping and free returns.

At the local flea market there are probably two hundred individual booths. Some sell decent stuff at decent prices, some sell overpriced crap. If I ignore the good stuff on one table to buy the bad stuff from another I don't see how that's the fault of the guy running the flea market.

Ebay is just a market and all markets have both good and bad sellers. I have bought dozens of knives from eBay sellers over the years with never a single problem. Just lucky I guess...

I think the consensus is that Ebay and PP isn't evil like Richard always makes them out to be.
He claims he hasn't used them in close to 20 years, so I don't know how he knows much about them anyway.

I recently got a counterfeit Winchester on eBay. I have purchased counterfeits from many different categories (e.g. phone batteries). When I know it is a counterfeit, I do not bother contacting the seller first. I immediately open up a case with eBay/Paypal. That way I always get my money back, and sometimes I do not even bother returning the counterfeit, and the seller does not usually push the issue.

Most of the time I get some great deals. the most recent is this 85th Anniversary Schrade with solid sterling silver bolsters, pins, and liners and gorgeous stag handles (unused and unsharpened) for about $85 dollars shipped. Deals like this keep me coming back.

I recently purchased a kindle e-reader for my child
on ebay, and sure enough the guy ended up not shipping to me at all.
He then marked the item,"shipped" and had no tracking for it despite charging me 8.95 for shipping

I had used my visa through pay pal. I sent the seller an email and asked where the item tracking was, no reply, warned him
that I would file a dispute with my visa card, and pay pal reversed the charges in 24 hours. Never did hear from the scammer again
but I certainly left negative feed back for him on his account.
now would it have been fair to allow him to give me negative in return for my justified complaint?
NO, so ebay has done the rite thing in my opinion.
