After wasting nearly two weeks, seller "Belote" now admits he didn't have the item in stock.

Ebay/PayPal got a full refund, but it ticks me off when sellers do this.

Totally not cool for an eBay seller. There, having an item that's up for bid/sale in stock should be mandatory (I believe that's how it's supposed to be).

Glad you were able to get your money back. Thanks for the heads-up. Just blacklisted him.

+1 Completely ridiculous tactic by the seller. :thumbdn:

I don't know if it is mandatory, but it ought to be.
I sell a TON on eBay (not personally, but professionally) and I ALWAYS have in stock in my own warehouse what I sell (not knife related at all). I wish everyone had to, half my competition would be gone tomorrow.

Most of these people carry no inventory. They bought into that late-night TV show crap about how to become internet millionaires by selling on eBay.

They are doing nothing more than hosting a catalog, and if you buy something from them, the have to take your money up-front so that they can pay a distribution warehouse to drop-ship your purchase directly to your address. They make a little as a virtual Middle-man.

Delays could be many things, from the Seller not placing/paying for your order, or the Warehouse not having anything in stock.

I've dealt with him before and didn't have a problem but his feedback shows he's pretty unpredictable.

I've only bought three inexpensive items from him in the past. One of the three times the same thing happened to me.

Yeah, I was about to order a couple of sheaths from an outfit.
Emailed the place. Got a short reply that they had the sheaths.
But something didn't quite seem right, so I checked the BBB ratings. A solid F rating came up.
Other Google hits included ripoffreport.com and a bad report at BFC here in the GB&U.
Among the complaints were mentions of promises for "in-stock" items that weren't actually in stock.
Word to the wise... Google "Appalachian Tactical" before you buy from them. I'm glad I did.

I too have had good luck with Belote, but I'll keep my eyeball on this. I have no tolerance for vendors who "sell" items they don't have in stock. Reminds me of opticplanet, which seems to have nothing in stock.

I have bought 2 knives from Belote and had no issues. But, I do not like to buy something and find out after they have my money that I'll now have to wait. Really goes against my instant gratification gene.

Maybe if we start telling the sellers that they can have the payment when the knife arrives they would see how it makes people feel. Thanks for the heads up on this.

Ive had good luck with this seller. They usually are the low price.I hope he gets it together.

Checked out Belote's eBay feedback.

Recent complaints include similar issues, and others, too.

Had the same problem with them about 6 months ago. They did not notify me it was out of stock. I had to draw it out of them. Got a quick refund at that time but still a hassle. They/he is off my buyers list.

There really is no excuse for advertizing something that you don't have in stock, making people wait unnecessarily, but people, lets not exaggerate things: He's had like 0.7 of 1 percent bad feedback. I wish I could say I got things right 99.3% of the time. ;)

Listing something as being in stock when it is not is totally lame!
However i've bought a few items from belote without any real problems.
The only minor problem i had was that they don't list shipping costs for outside of the U.S.
But if you ask they will give you a shipping quote in a day or three.
Actually the orders i made were for a hawk and a machete and the shipping cost for each order was around $10.
I'm in Canada and i've had some companies and ebayers list shipping costs for similar items up to $30!

That pretty much mirrors what happened here. After the advertised delivery date came and went, and I hadn't even had an "your item has shipped" message, I tried to contact them. First attempt was ignored, second attempt was ignored and the listing was "ended", then finally after a third message, they told me they didn't actually have the item, and it would be weeks before they did. I requested a refund and it was ignored until I opened a dispute with Ebay, then they gave me the refund.
