EDC a 4-inch Fixed Blade (e.g., Bradford Guardian 4)? How to Carry Comfortably?

I'm using the Mora 510 the last couple of days and while its sheath leaves something to be desired, it sits nicely on my belt tucked into my back pocket. With a shirt over it nothing catches on it. The blade is about 3.75". I have also carried the Ka-Bar USN Mk1 this way. When I have a puukko hanging from my belt or belt loop, I will tuck it into my back pocket to keep it out of the way when driving, as well. It all depends on what the factory sheath looks like and how stingy I am about buying a new sheath.

You all have given me a lot to think about. I think I will still get one (to satisfy the knife itch) and plan on wearing it on the weekends for now. I can always resell it if it doesn't work out. I think I may try out both the IWB method with an Armatus kydex sheath and the pocket carry with the Raven pocket shield and see which one I like better. I will try to post my results back here as it may be helpful for others who are considering the same thing. In the meantime, your continued suggestions and/or input are most welcome.

If you try a Pocket Shield & don't like it, feel free to leave a message on my profile page- I'll buy it form you. (As long as it doesn't smell like jockstrap and come with a coating of old Lifesavers & pocket funk!:D)

I would recommend a guardian 3.

It is possible to carry a fixed blade and tuck your shirt in with a utiliclip. It will require a custom sheath setup for that type of carry.

I had a sheath made for this Custon Tendick and if you notice the attachement screws are low compared to where the actual clip is. This allows me to tuck between the sheath and the clip.

The other option is to use a pocket sheath, which may be annoying if you have dress pants on.

If you must have a fixed, my suggestion is to go with the lightest possible knife that meets your criteria.

Another Bradford Guardian option is the 3 with the ffg sheepsfoot blade. Add a pinky lanyard and it really locks in to your hand. I scout carry mine in an Armatus sheath but mostly with a vest. I think the stock leather sheath could be used as a pocket slip.

That's a great idea!!

I have thought of doing something similar. the only thing I have found with the Ulticlip is that its of course metal and it has a lot of sharp edges and protrusions. I know the design probably necessitates this and if something improved were created it would be more expensive but the reason I havnt done what you did as seen in your pic is that I think the Ulticlip would chew the hell out of my $75 belt over time. have you found this to be true?

with the Ulticlip used as a pocket clip I am always trying to be conscious and careful to not lean up against a car or someones countertops or whatever so as not to scratch the ever loving hell out of the object . these are the little things most don't think about that can really wreak havoc on your EDC game plan.

Put the ulticlip under your belt on your pants? They're not really designed for belts. That being said I've been using one on an IWB holster inside my boot for some months and haven't really noticed any wear. Boot top is thinner than a belt though.

Its a difficult thing for me to describe as my writing skills aren't that good.
what I meant was if you have a FB IWB and are using an Ulticlip for attachment to your clothing you would have the knife inside waistband of pants and the clip "hooked" over the pants lip . then you would have your belt laying down over the face plate of the Ulticlip and you would cinch your belt down thus the faceplate of the Ulticlip will be scraping and rubbing against the inside of your belt. I am wondering if overtime as an EDC setup if this will start to damage the belt or possible start to cut into the belt? I know no one will probably be able to answer this as its a long term result but from my own personal experience no matter what method I am using whether its a Gclip or a belt loop or a metal clip or whatever , it takes a toll on anything it comes into contact with .

they actually do make an Ulticlip for the belt now. But that's not what I am talking about here.

Gotcha. As a leather guy I would bet that the wear on the inside of the belt would be limited from the clip. I probably wouldn't worry about that too much. We've been using the Ulticlip for years in some of our work. Didn't know about the belt one. Thanks.

That’s a double ground Magni. They are fairly hard to come by these days.
