Edc fixed blade

White river knives have been good to me. Caper and backpacker. The sheath from them offers a lot of different positions to carry. I of course added my own. One with soft loops and one with an ulticlip for pocket carry or inside the waistband carry.

This is my vote. I was about to post a picture of mine, but its exactly the same as the backpacker with the black G10. Of all the neck knives and small fixed blades, this thing just flat out the best. You have to handle it and use it to understand.

A Lionsteel M4 was my front carry pocket knife for a long time. The White River Firecraft 3.5 started getting 50% pocket carry time when I bought it.

The leather sheath on the Lionsteel M4 carries nicely in my pocket but, it is a bit big and bulky. This means there are no hotspots or issues with my carry while walking, standing, sitting, etc and there is never any outline showing I have a knife on my person.

The White River Firecraft carries more compactly with its trim sheath. The broad aspect of its blade is awesome for spreading cream cheese on a bagel at work!

Sorry. I must have confused the term, "Tactical Knife" with the anticipated of possible violent interpersonal conflict.
That’s right. A knife is pretty much useless for self defense. This issue has been beat to death here, and I thought put to bed. “Tactical knife” implies aggression, by a mugger, a commando, or at lest a mall ninja. I thought we had agreed on that.

"Tactical-Practical" . . .just words to be sure, and yet: The knives I bought for our son twenty or so years ago before he "surged" into Iraq with the Marines were very different from the knives I have given our grandson (now 13) before family trips backpacking in the Rockies, so there is a difference, whatever words are used.

Interestingly though, when the young Leftenant dud go off to war in 2004, he left behind the really aggressive looking daggers and such, and only took along a Randall #1 and a CRK Green Beret along with a Leatherman Wave and a CRKT M-21. . . .which supports the point made above I think.

When deployed again, he left the Randall #1 Fighter back home with the daggers and only bringing utility tools.

If someone is on top of me or a female friend, I certainly hope they have a stabby knife to fight back.

Ideal? Definitely not but, a 100lb woman is no match for a 180lb rapist.

If someone grabs me from behind (poor situational awareness) and is on top of me, how do I draw and fire my Glock? A "get off me" knife is going to be a lot more effective!

This is where something like an OTF automatic comes into its own IMHO. 🩸🧛‍♂️🩸

My Lionsteel M4 buried in a heavy sheath in my front pocket is worthless in this sort of scenario as well so, that's why I have a Microtech Halo.

The need for a fighting knife among most soldiers in the USA today is extremely remote as is hand-to-hand combat in the field. With firearms and all sorts of support everywhere, a knife fight is extremely unlikely for most soldiers. Heck, they are more apt to see an aggressively wielded knife in a bar fight than on the battlefield.

Most soldiers do have a need for a general utilitarian knife where they do the normal mundane things like opening a crate and cutting all sorts of things.

Sell me your halo. 😅

If I feel like carrying a fixed blade in an urban environment, then it's a Grohmann #1. It pretty much goes unnoticed, but it scare nobody if it does, yet it's an incredibly useful shape as an edc.

Good one. Is yours stainless? I have a flat ground carbon Grohmann #2 I’ve wanted to carry, small and thin. Or one of my JKs.

My #1 is a flat ground stainless. I have a #3 in carbon on order. A #2 would probably be even better in the "unobtrusiveness" and "unscaryness", but I don't currently own one.

Completely disagree. Knives have been used effectively through out history for self defense. See escrima, silat, kali, etc etc etc. Its fine if you don't prefer them for self defense but people all over the globe disagree with you. They sure beat a stern lecture if you are being assaulted and in a fight for your life.
