There is a plethora of good to great fixed blade kn ives vailale at about any price point today.

What are you going to do with it?

If you are an outlaw biker, you may want to look at a stout boot knife . . .but one you won't mind dropping on the bar room floor and walking away from.

If you are a back country back packer, then weight is the controlling factor. . . .Chris Reeves has one that is nice.

Many long duration through trekkers bring only a small folder.

If you are an off the grid bush crafter, then something heftier and perhaps larger over all might be the thing.

If you are an every year deer hunter you might be looking for a nice but affordable knife from Cold Steel.

If you are a top guide at a high end outfitter for Sheep or Elk, , you m ight want an appropriate blade profile from Randall.

During the Global War on Terror big belt knives over 5" to 7" and more inches were popular with active duty warfighters in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Well these days the sheaths are. Although a fully carved one is more. Kinda more talking about method of carry, not my knives, in that post. I no longer have knives in that price range so wasn't really showing them. Don't want to say I'm an old fart but I've been doing this long enough that I can remember when one of my Coyote knives with a wooden handle and one of my leather sheaths, not tooled, would go for $85. Been a minute or two.

Feels melted in hand. Avarage size blade with great cutting&stabbing performance.
Very glad I managed to get one. There are 50 of them in total.

Wonderful looking knife.
 
Recently this year I made one for a member here.
I normally like subtle curves, but he wanted a Wharnie type blade. For aggressive cutting.
This is 62.5HRC(tested) CPM Cruwear, thin, flat to convex grind. Shallow, 12dps.
*Edit to add: burl micarta, and black linen scales. Hand made bronze and aluminum fasteners. I shipped it with two sheaths.

I don't like lanyards or fobs. Blood and Yuck gets into them. Same for screwed on handle scales. Doesn't make sense to me, for a User knife.
But I Did want easier access, yet indiscreet. I came up with a midway lanyard on the sheath with a pull I made out of Armour X material. It's kinda like a "rubbery" UHMW. Shouldn't scratch cars or furniture as much? High impact, high wear resistance. Pull the cord, Up comes sheath.
Carries well, comfortable.

My personal EDC. I call it the "Bowman". It's designed to be a utility/Bushcraft knife.
Sharp spine and comfortable handle. This one's been in the truck or my pocket for a couple years.

5/32" 80cRv2 at 60rc

Cant go wrong with the previous suggestions. Have you considered just getting a handful of Mora’s. Sure the sheaths suck (some of the new ones look promising), but they are light, cheap and decently tough. Besides, if you lose it or break it you won’t shed a tear anyway.

What specifically do you like about it (so I do it again). My normal pattern isn't a straight blade, I made an exception for this individual. I have a couple more similar with this handle coming up "soon".... If I can get a small handful off my workbench. (Already Taken.....years ago) Not to mislead anyone... I'm slow :)
 
I am the lucky recipient of Crag the Brewer’s knife. We talked quite a bit of wanting to make this a slicing machine. The blade thickness is 3/32” and made of cruwear with an excellent heat treatment. This knife is indeed an amazing cutter and the handle micarta is beautiful and extremely comfortable. Carries well and cuts like a scalpel, couldn’t be happier with this beauty. Great form and function while still being beautiful. Handle and blade together remind me of a saber tooth cat’s canine tooth.

But it's My EDC as of recent.
I've had it/using it for a few weeks now. So far so good. 7" blade. Knob style, vintage micarta handle I salvaged from an 1940's welder. 5 O-clock carry. Edge forward. (Urban Butcher')

Haha....it Does seem a little aggressive, predator like..... I was worried about being a tiny be large? But I carried it for a bit before cleaning it up and givng it to you. Seemed very comfortable..... But, I could see myself to be pushed to go even more discreet some day....

Thank you so much for letting me make it for You. It was a fun build, and I love that handle material.... I'd do it all over again in an instant. Loved it!

Thanks. I purposely left the Paracord strings long. Idk how deep/long the owner's pockets are?
Hopefully he will adjust and trim as required.

I sent him a separate pancake sheath with an expensive titanium clip, but honestly this sheath taught me a lot about how sometimes simple might be better.
