EDC flashlight

Just out of curiosity, can you "lego" with the Fenix products to the extent that is possible with Surefires?

BTW - if you have the funds, I recommend the LUMMI RAW NS for EDC pocket carry due to size and the light output being useful. The rechargeable batteries are a plus or negative - since they are not a standard primary battery size.

My edc is a Photon II (green) ... clipped to my other edc ... a Ritter Mini Grip. It has proven to be a reliable combination.

you can really get carried away with flashlights.
I own 3.
I own 2 laser devices, one is the OP6 (2 battery, non LED), and an OP9 led (3 batteries with led bulb)

one of the best lights out there, IMHO, is pentagonlight.
L3-BK-small.jpg
they're a great light for the money.

i also have a surefire E2D which I got an LED head for.

Fenix is good, Streamlight is a good value, and so are pelicanlights.
one place to get them cheap is www.cdnninvestments.com (I'm just a customer).

I have a Novatac 120T and really like it. It's high quality, and operation was simpler and more geared to tactical use than the Fenix lights, but you can still use lower lumens for everyday tasks. It's worth the money.

The one negative point is the pocket clip. I wear it clipped on my belt and I can't go a week without the clip getting bent. I'm writing Novatac with the complaint, as there is no reason the clip should be so weak. Going to get a small sheath to carry it in.

Another point for Novatac! Immediately after I posted here, I emailed Novatac about the clip issue. Within five minutes I got a reply saying I had an old-style clip and offering to send me a new clip. Can't beat that.

UnknownVT, your earlier post caused me to order a Fenix L0D. I have had an ARC AAA on my keys for the past couple years, and it has been a great light. But I have always wanted something brighter and with more features like the Fenix. The price was not bad either. My ARC is still a great light, and will still see some use. Just not as an edc.

tknife,

Thank you for the kind words - I hope you'll enjoy the Fenix L0D -
was it the Q4 version?

Fenix L0D-Q4 Comparison Review

this is a great light - really bright even on regular alkaline or rechargeable NiMH on its High mode (rated at 75 lumens - putting this in context - this is actually brighter on spec than any of the "ultra bright" 2x lithium CR123, Xenon lights like the SureFire 6P, G2 or Streamlight Scorpion - and the Fenix L0D-Q4 is only using a humble AAA battery and runs for 1 hour the same runtime as those Xenon lights on 2x CR123 - about 10x the price even for the cheapest CR123s)
but on the low mode (about ~11 lumens) it is rated to run for 8.5 hours......

For a few dollars more (sound like a good, bad or ugly movie title :p )
many people use a 3.7V rechargeable Li_ion 10440 (AAA sized) battery which gives quite astonishingly bright output -
just don't use it for extended periods of time if you feel the light getting warm/hot.

Yup, it's the Q4  Should be here this week, I'm looking forward to it.

I can't believe it puts out that kind of light! It really sounds amazing.

Edit: Got it today, that was some fast shipping. This little light is amazing. I wouldn't have believed a AAA could put out that much light. I am sold on Fenix, now I'll probably have to get more!

Congrats! enjoy your light.

With that kind of service/shipping, did you get it from the Fenix-Store ?

Since you actually have an ArcAAA -
what are your thoughts of the Fenix L0D-Q4 directly compared to the ArcAAA?

I normally use AAA eneloop in the light -
that's a LSD (Low Self-Discharge) rechargeable NiMH.

Yeah, I ordered from the Fenix store on 3/27 and got it on 3/31. That was just regular mail from Georgia to California. Great service there!

The very first thing I did was compare it to my ARC AAA. I put a new standard Energizer battery in both. To me it looks like the low setting on the Fenix is about the same output as the ARC. It's also a tighter, whiter spot. The ARC is more of a hazy blue.
It is just a little wider and longer than the ARC, but the weight feels about the same. It rides great on my keyring, and the slightly bigger size isn't noticed in pocket.

Going up to medium, the Fenix is brighter than my Mag 2 D cell with the krypton bulb.

On the high setting, it's brighter than my Surefire E2L Outdoorsman! This is probably what surprised me the most. Looking at the size of the L0D, I would never guess it could throw that kind of light.

What is the run time for the novatac 120p for say 10-40 lumens?
Been thinking hard on getting one - but can't seem to get any straight answers on how long they will run on those settings.

Thanks,

sp

Yeah well - that's the advance in technology for you.....

Here's the diminutive 1x AAA Fenix L0D-Q4 (and RB80) (but both on 3.7V rechargeable Li-Ion 10440)
compared to the brightest incandescent lights I have -
the SureFire 9P - yes, 3x Lithium CR123, Xenon light (on standard P90 lamp) and .....
a 1,000,000 candlePower Spot light -

The large difference in color/tints make the comparison more difficult, so....
same shots but with Color removed/deSaturated -

Yes, the incandescents have much brighter central hotspots - so should throw further.....

But remember the Fenix L0D is a mere 1x AAA light - albeit on a 3.7V rechargeable Li-Ion 10440 -
who would have thought this 2 short years ago?

Wow, that is pretty amazing stuff. I like that the L0D throws a nice spot pretty far, but also has more useful light around the edges too. This is the absolute best IMO for most times I use a flashlight. It will be the best of both worlds for a backpacking light, which is also how I will use it quite a bit. I'm already looking into one of the larger AA models too.

I just picked up a RA Twisty, and it feels SOLID! (TR70 version)

Now I just need to pick up a Caly 3 to finish off my EDC requirements...:)

I've been looking at the new RA.

How do you like the three light levels. I was thinking the two lower levels are simply too low for most uses.

I am extremely impressed with the concept of the HDS/RA Twisty. With its lineage (HDS EDC, Henry of HDS/RA) and design spec it certainly should be an incredible light. I will be getting one, but my newfound interest in Busses have pushed that back somewhat.

I have the l0d q4 and it's a sweet light for sure.
I see fenix has also just put the e01 out and it looks very promising. It's 10 lumens with a run time of 21 hours on a aaa -for $15. It's available in several colors also. I'd be sure to look into it if you're in the market for a nice keychain light at a great price.

The piggy works pretty good -- 2 light bulbs, a good grip and a lanyard. What's not to like?
